Excellent Billy Bell design that allows bogey golfers to enjoy their day, while challenging better players with positioning, angles, small greens, uneven lies and well placed bunkers/trees. Makes me wonder why some modern architects can't figure out how to accommodate all levels of players.

Pace- Started off painfully slow. After the turn many of the recreational/drinking crowd left. Front nine 2:30+, back nine sub 2 hour for a 4:30 total.

Course conditions- Lush almost everywhere (first time I've seen actual rough in forever). The bunkers had been fluffed and everything plugged or fried egged. Greens were still showing signs of maintenance, which caused the occasional plinko effect. They are not only doing normal maintenance on the greens, but are also preparing for the Len Ross Jr., so they should be very nice in the next month.

Staff- Good staff all around. Home of the First Tee Fresno. Daniel Beckman is one of the instructors. He made the finals at the ReMax long drive last year, so if you need some swing speed tips look him up.

Value- Always good prices. We had a $25 deal that included cart. Steal for a weekend.

Food- Normal fare, normal prices. The back deck has great views of the 10th and the tracks/bridge (see photos once they post). Front deck allows viewing of several holes.

Facilities- Muni level buildings, well maintained. Range has good space and grass. Short game area in good shape. Practice green needs more flat areas, it is difficult to get a feel for speed/lag.

The volume of play can cause pace and conditioning issues at times. The layout and price make it one of my top five in the area. I recommend a visit.

Just a quick update on Riverside, played out there last week in the wind and cold before this "big storm" was supposed to hit. Course was wide open, probably due to the circumstances of the weather. But the course was in pretty good shape! The greens are the best part of the course right now! They are in really good shape! Best they've been in a while IMO. They are doing some maintenance to make the course a little better, which is always great! Prices are really good too!

Played Saturday 4/26. Got there early as I was advised that later in the morning they were going to have a big tournament. Got paired with a nice threesome of older guys.

Played Saturday 4/26. Got there early as I was advised that later in the morning they were going to have a big tournament. Got paired with a nice threesome of older guys.

Right on the first hole I knew that today was not going to be a pleasant day. They had just punched the fairways (no mention of that fact in their site or when i called). Mix that wit a down pore of rain from the night before and you get a muddy field that looked anything but a golf course. Greens were healing from the aerification of the 1st of the month.

All and all I always enjoy the challange of this longer ( for the Valley) course. And you can't beat their price

Living right down the street from Riverside Golf Course means I play this course a ton! Especially with their Twilight and Super Twilight rates! Can walk after 4pm for $11 bucks and with a good pace can get a whole 18 in before the sun goes down! That's on a week day, weekend this place gets packed! But with their good rates, it is understandable. Onto the course, this course is a solid test for any golfer. The toughest thing about this course is on a few holes, there is a lot of rollers, where you can hit a great shot, get up to it and it's on a down hill or up hill lie and your second shot turns into a hard shot. But after playing this course over the years, you know where you can miss, and you know where to aim to avoid these. This course can play a lot tougher when it gets breezy, and especially right around this time of the year, when they are preparing for the Fresno City Amateur Tournaments, the greens are in great shape and are quick! The fairways are in very good shape, and the rough in many places is pretty thick and interesting to hit out of. The back 9 plays a bit longer, with the Par 4 12th and Par 4 13th being some of the toughest holes on the course. One good thing about this course is the two finishing holes, a short Par 4 17th, which is a great birdie hole if you can keep your drive in the right half of the fairway, and a short Par 5 18th, another great chance for a birdie, and for the long hitters an eagle opportunity! All in all, this course is one of my favorites in Fresno! Always can go out as a single, and meet some good people to golf with, and the guys in the Pro Shop are good dudes!

I play Riverside fairly often. Most of the time as a twosome and have met some great people as they joined us. The staff is really great to work with and will listen to comments about the course both good and bad. The course itself is 180 degrees better than it was a few years ago. The new head of maintenance has done a remarkable job of bringing this course to the point of being one of the very best in the area. There are those who will judge a course by how much they paid in greens fees. As one who has played private, semi-private as well as muni courses in the area, Riverside rates in the top 3. AND the real plus is the cost. How they keep the course in such great condition at the price is a real tribute to the whole organization.
My only problem with the course is that some folks don't take care of it. The ball marks left on the greens shows a lack of respect. The management has tried to address this by putting plastic divot repair tools on the tee boxes. I'm sure some of those who took the tools didn't understand what they were and simply used them to pick their teeth.
Get out and play this course anyway; you'll have a good time.

The updates make this a really nice place and the price make it even more a value. Get the giant hotdog at the turn and you have a perfect day of golf because the 10th tee is the best!

For those who haven't played this classic (Est. 1929) course since its renovation, you owe yourself a favor... play it. The upgrades from a new lake, improved drainage, grounds keeping philosophy, and concerted effort and commitment to make this course something special. The friendly staff, and their desire to see all who play here have a great experience, is very much appreciated. I played this course when it wasn't a 'fun experience' and this is a 180 degree change. Enjoy

This is a Fresno classic course. Very hard to lose a ball on this course. A must play if your in the Central Valley area and have your clubs in the trunk. The green fees are great and after 18 you can play more for free. If you want to zoom with your golf cart its 7.00 for extra holes with a cart. In the summer time you can come out and play all day for 40.00. Not a bad deal I say!
