Second round of the day was at Somersett. This is technically a private club, but they have a Groupon going right now that is very reasonable. I think it ended up being about $55 each after using a 20% off promo code. The course was fairly busy. They had everyone starting on the back nine today. We were stuck behind a dreadfully slow couple most of the first nine, but thankfully they quit after 9 holes. We still caught up to some foursomes on the second nine and there was nowhere to go. It felt slower than a sub-four-hour round, but that's what it ended up being. Not really that bad.

Conditions were very good overall. Not really a lush green here as it seems some of the turf may still slowly be coming out of winter dormancy. However, it was really nice to play from throughout. Tee boxes were good, fairways had a nice pad that provided decent roll-out and good lies to hit from. Rough cut down. Ball would sit up, but the grass was still quite grabby underneath. Greens were the highlight. They were firm and very fast. Also big greens here with plenty of undulation. All the bunkers I was in were pretty good. However, some didn't look as great and a few Phillip hit from had a lot of pebbles.

I actually liked that we played the back nine first because the front nine is really the star on this course. The back nine does have a few really nice holes, but the front has one memorable one after the other. This course was the polar opposite from our morning round at Coyote Moon. Really no trees as it is more of a desert/canyon style course with some links inspiration, as well. Runs through a community, but houses rarely come into play. Plenty of elevation changes and interesting features. The design really grew on me as we got deeper into our round and I would definitely recommend it as a change of pace from the mountain courses in the area. I will say that it was crazy windy throughout our round because there is nothing to block the wind, so that definitely made things interesting.
