Spent New Years weekend in wine country. Did a stay/play at Silverado to play N course on New Years Day. Got a great weather day and it was quite as not to many interested in playing early after New Years Eve (hmm?) Many years since playing here and before Johnny Miller did his remodeling. And what a spectacular job they did. We never had a bad tee box on any hole (played W at 6300 yds). Fairways had great lies and decent roll out, even after all the recent rains. The rough was brutal and we lost a few and found a few (the tourists really like to buy those expensive Titelist Pro V). Traps were all playable and we had no issues. Greens were outstanding. Running at about 11 and just a joy to putt on. Customer service was as you would expect top notch at all levels. Was a little surprised at how small the Pro Shop was but it had a very good assortment of brands. We even scored the famous Burger Dog made famous at Olympic Club and served here as well (I see why everyone likes them). The resort accomodations are fantastic and the dining tremendous. But I loved the little bakery on property (which came recommended for early golfers) for the variety of muffins and especially the salmon sandwich (delicious). Great resort and great golf course. Only wish I had time to play the South course. Oh well I will just have to come back.
