I purchased this driver about 6 weeks ago and really like it. First, the ball just leaps off the face of this driver - I'm averaging about 15 yards longer off the tee - went from 250-260 now to 265-275 with occasional strikes 290+ - never thought this 50-something year old man would ever be hitting over 300 yards - this club made it possible. Ok guys ... here is an honest review from a guy who is not partial to ANY USDM clubs! Normally, I am a big fan of JDM equipment but, I had to see for myself what the hype was all about with the new TM R11 driver. After more than a few LM sessions, I decided to pick up the TM R11 (9*) and the Burner 2.0 SFTP (9.5*).

Firstly, there is no performance advantage in the stock offering between the regular R11 and the R11 TP. You are paying $100.00 more for a different head cover, the ability to order different shafts (upcharge) and the inside diameter of the hosel being .350 versus .335.

A standard R9 tip will fit fine into the new R11's. So, IMHO if you are planning to change out the shaft, save yourself the $100.00!

Appearance
At first glance, this driver is "sexy." At address, you will definitely see the contrast between the white body and the black face. It really does help with aligning the ball. For some, this may be valuable. Some may even claim veritgo but, it was fine for me.

Performance
The stock Fujikura Blur shaft has been called the "Blah" and I can see why. I had a chance to hit both the non TP (60g) and the TP (65g) versions (S-flex) of the shaft. I don't understand how TM can offer this shaft as the only stock offering. At least Titleist offers 4-different shafts for their new 910 line of drivers. The Blur was really whippy for me and my shot pattern on the LM and the range had a wide dispersion pattern. Ultimately, I had a string of great shots when I forced myself to slow down my swing.

I tried all of the adjustments and found the most consistent setting at Lower Launch for the shaft, Closed position for the ASP and the factory weights in tact. Still, this driver did not live up to the hype for me. Maybe, I was expecting way to much but this driver could not kick my Kamui out of the bag.

However, I do think this head will be great if shafted with something other than the Blur. Maybe my Ilima - The shaft is the engine, right? The back spin numbers were definitely higher with the R11, ball speed averaged in the mid 150's and mid 15* launch.

Overall, it is a good driver. Best of 2011? I don't think so. I think TM did an excellent job marketing this driver and maybe the ghost finish will end up being just a fad. So, for those of you on the fence looking for a new driver may want to really think about this purchase. TM is planning to release the 460cc version later. And, if the white driver ends up being a fad you may want to consider looking in the "pre-owned" bin at your local shop because that is where this one will most likely end up.
