Recently rented this set if "XL" Irons from a golf course vs lugging my travel set. The rental price was just $20 which was a deal but for overall performance, distance, play-ability....I know you can do better! These set of irons would be for someone starting out playing the game IF they don't have the money for a more improved starter set.
Iron heads felt on the heavy side,a little clunky when contact was made. Distance? Seemed to lose about 12-15 yards per club compared to my travel set. During my round, always finding my approach shots short of the green, needed to club up to achieve the correct distance.
Irons came w/ two hybrids irons (#4 & #5) as well as a 3 wood. With this 3 wood,I felt I nailed my shots from the fairway yet did not travel the expected distance. Hybrid shots were easy to strike solid, yet same loss of distance result.
The matching putter called the "XL" was similar in design to an Odyssey putter called the "XG Sabertooth". It actually was a solid feeling putter even for a cheapo rental set, ball rolled smoothly.
Work-ability? I don't really recommend this set if you like to work the ball (Draw/fade), in my opinion you can find a better starter set...
