They lost their super and these greens are now much slower to go along with the devastatingly slow play. Had to leave yesterday because of it. Wait on every tee box due to one slow group a hole behind... Continue »

Played SC Muni on 9/10/25.
Fairways have dropped a notch since I last played here. But last time - fairways were fantastic, so no where to go but down a notch. Still mostly very good, but there are... Continue »

I saw my old tip on #16 - take the shortcut.
NO MORE! Homeowners sued, and the settlement was to add trees immediately left of the blue tees, and also take away the right half of the blue tee box. So now, the only way to get into the valley is a big sweeping high hook.
I don't have a hook, so now the play is a 3 wood (or driver into the wind) over the highest tree.
I don't like the change, but I understand it as I have seen some wild attempts go into the houses. And at age 60, my shortcut days are just about over anyway.

Thinking about going for the shortcut left off the back tees? I played here 15 years and never tried it. Then on a whim, I gave it a shot, made it. But it is the ultimate risk/reward - miss at all and it is a 2 shot reload. I aim just left of the last tree. If I pull it a bit, that's OK. My normal miss is a high weak fade, and that is OK as well.
It takes about 230-240 carry to make it. 260-270 total is optimum. If you make it, it almost always funnels into the flat spot at the bottom leaving 80-100 yards. If you hit 300, it is a tough pitch over the bunker.
For me, the layup over the trees is a challenge due to my normal fade. A good driver goes into the back trees. 3 wood is the right distance, but a miss fade leaves me a mid-long iron into the green. My driver is pretty reliable, so I take the shortcut every time except for into the wind (which is a rare wind direction here).
Give it a shot!
