Played Legion Memorial yesterday (6/1/2024) and had a really nice time. Me and a couple of friends were joined by a very pleasant single, and teed off just a hair behind our 7:15 am tee time. The four of us walked the course in a little over 4 hours, which felt a little bit longer as we were playing behind an rather slow twosome, that couldn't seem to keep up with the foursome in front of them. Conditions were really nice, it rained on us a little bit for the first few holes, but then things dried out and warmed up into a very nice day. Greens are very good, feeling a little slow at the beginning but definitely picking up pace as they dried out. They'll bump here and there, and there are a few too many pitch marks to fix, but not worse than any of the other munis around here. They're not super firm, so shots hold nicely. Fairways and rough are in great shape, giving a good amount of roll and a nice lie to play from. Tee boxes are a bit beat up, we played the whites which definitely see a lot of traffic. I didn't find any bunkers, but my partners hit some really nice shots out of the greenside bunkers so I'd bet they were pretty good. People in the shop and the marshals are all friendly, giving the place a real good vibe. Legion's a great value, and not leaving the rotation any time soon.

Played Legion Memorial this morning for the first time in a very long time, and enjoyed the round quite a bit. A couple of friends and I walked the blue tees, teeing off right on time at 6:30 am and finishing in about 3:50 for an excellent pace. We did wait here and there, and I felt pushed just a tiny bit here and there, but all in all pace really was close to perfect.

Conditions were pretty good for a muni, greens were a little bit slow, and bumped a bit here and there. They certainly looked terrible, as they were a ton of unrepaired or poorly repaired pitch marks on most greens. They held most any shot quite well, my partners and I rarely got huge bounces on shots into these greens. Fairways and rough were very nice to play from, with the heat they're definitely watering a lot to keep the place green so there are a few wet spots but nothing very extreme. I didn't find any bunkers, but one of my partners did find a few and he was able to hit some really nice shots out of them, so I'd bet they were pretty good. Tee boxes here are quite a bit better then a lot of the places I normally play. Customer service was very efficient in the shop, and a marshal was out checking in on the pace as we got near the turn. The restaurant wasn't open for anything at the turn, so if you're playing here early in morning on a weekday I'd recommend coming prepared.

I'm a little bit conflicted about this place, I was a member of their mens club for several years, and I have some great memories playing here. They've done a pretty significant redesign, and I can't quite make up my mind whether or not I like it. The nines have been flipped, and the old #10 is now #1, which works really well. But, #2 (which used to be #11) is a really tough par 4, and I thought it was much better to have that hole in the middle of the round, once you've had a chance to really get into your day, especially since there's no driving range here. The current #9 was an awesome finishing hole, I feel like having it in the middle of the round just isn't quite right, and the old #9 is just gone, and I really liked that hole. It was just a short par 3, but it had an awesome greenside bunker and they could put some tough pins on it. They're using its green as a practice chipping green, which is nice, but I'd really rather be trying to hit an 8 iron into it, at a tucked pin behind that bunker. With the current conditions and decent price, I think I'm going to have to try and give this configuration another look or two this summer as it really was nice to check the place out again.

Teed it up in a Men's club event this morning at Legion and enjoyed the round very much. Tee to green the place is very solid, good fairways and rough, decent tee boxes. Found 2 traps that were a little thin, which didn't bother me when I was 100 yds out from the green, but I would have liked a little more sand in the green side one at #16. Greens rolled ok, a few bumps here and there at a medium pace, and holding shots pretty well. Pace of play was solid as well, our foursome (2 walking, 2 riding) got around in 4 hours on the dot, waiting maybe 2 or 3 times for no more than a minute or 2. As always, I had a pretty good time at Legion.

Played in a Men's club event this morning (4/23/16) at Legion and had a real good time. Greens were very slow, which was the only real downside to the day. They had a few hops as well, but they are only 3 weeks out from the spring punch so it was definitely to be expected. Every other part of the course was lush and pleasant to play from. Rough long enough to really make you earn it, fairways always treating you well. The only bunker I found was green side on 15, and while it was a tad thin it was very playable. A little bit of rain and wind on the front nine gave way to some nicer weather on the back, so overall a great day. In about 2 more weeks, when the greens are fully healed, Legion will be awesome.

Played a very early morning round at Legion today, and had the usual excellent time. Paid $38 to walk, and played by myself as the 3rd group out of the day behind a walking 2 some, who was behind a walking 3 some. Pace really wasn't an issue, and I was enjoying the opportunity to get in some extra putting practice on each green. By the 15th hole the 3 some in carts behind me were starting to push a bit, so I played the last 3 holes with the 2 in front of me. Conditions were very good all the way around, greens rolling very well, a little bit on the slow side perhaps, and without too many pitch marks to fix. Fairways, rough, and tees were all very good as well. Found 1 fairway bunker, and it had plenty of very nice sand. The little bit of rain that has come through over the last 48 hours really has freshened everything up, without making things play soft at all. I noticed that especially in the rough, which was really quite lush in places, without being too punishing. Legion isn't a very difficult course, but it has just enough length, and just enough happening on each hole to keep you honest. Still my favorite of all of the Premier Golf managed municipal courses up here in Western Washington.

Played Legion Memorial yesterday morning (6/14/15) and had an excellent time. I truly don't think I've ever seen the course in such good shape. Fairways and rough are fast and firm, but not thin at all and a pleasure to hit from. A couple of tee boxes had been punched, but most of those were in very good shape as well. I found a couple of fairway bunkers, and they had firm sand, very nice to play from. Saving the best for last, the greens were just about perfect. Running at a medium to fast speed, very true, with hardly any pitch marks to fix. If you made a decent read and started it on line, it was going in. The pace of play was good, and the guys in the shop were friendly and professional as well. All in all, it was a perfect Sunday morning.

Played Legion last Saturday, 11/22/14, and found the place to be in reasonable winter shape. Greens have recovered very well from their punch, and are probably the best part of the course. Tee boxes, rough, and sand were all pretty good as well. Fairways we a little bit sketchy, very wet and very thin in some spots, often it felt like you got a better lie in the rough. Unfortunately a common occurrence here in the NW this time of year. Pace was OK, although it felt on the slow side as our foursome waited a fair bit on the threesome in front of us. It definitely wasn't great, although for the price (I paid the rack rate) I would say it is worth a visit. You can certainly do a lot worse up here.

Played this past Saturday morning (9/27/14) in a Mens club event at Legion and enjoyed the round very much, in spite of some of the maintenance. Greens were good, (although probably not now as they've punched since I played there) tees and rough pretty good as well. About half of the fairways had been punched though, so many of them weren't in very good shape. Also, a lot of run up areas in front of greens were punched and heavily sanded, so if you were hitting a 30 yard pitch shot you really needed to pick it clean. Still a solid round overall.

Played a mens club event at Legion on Saturday (9/6/14) and had a pretty good time. Course is in good shape from tee to green, with the exception of a few spots where the run ups to the green and fringes have been punched. The greens themselves are very good, a little quick for a muni, but pretty true for the most part. Didn't see too many unrepaired pitch marks either. I was in one green side bunker, and it had very nice sand. Tee boxes were pretty good, although a few of those had been punched as well. Rough was good, pretty thick, but even, so you knew what you were getting if you missed the fairway. As always, a very solid round and definitely worth it.
