I played here on 05/04/12 from the Black tees (74.5/137/7037) on a cool blustery day. There are plenty of men’s tee boxes to choose from (4 sets) and I played one set forward from all the way back and that was even too much for me in the wet and windy conditions. The Home Course is not your traditional Northwest layout and in fact is an open layout with large greens with a lot of slopes in them (framed beautifully by trees) and cavernous bunkers and stunning views of the local area. The course sits close to the Puget Sound and a couple times I paused and take in the view. Mt. Rainier is visible on a clear day, but I was not able to see it because of the clouds. The course is fairly new (opened in 2007) and because of such a new layout I was surprised by the wet conditions. I realize that it rains consistently in the area, and maybe I caught it the day after a down pour, but the course was very soggy with lots of standing water. Other course conditions were good and the greens rolled nice and drained well compared to the rest of the course. When I played the rough was thin and the fescue was down, but I think growing those parts of the course up would make for an incredibly difficult test. As far as the layout, the course had me guessing on some holes with some blind shots and the long par 3’s/long par 5’s wore me out. I loved the open layout as I hit it pretty crooked so this did not result in too many lost balls and loved the fact that the course was very walkable, sometimes the new courses demand the use of a power cart. I walked it on a Friday afternoon in less than 4 hours and for the $40 price I thought it was reasonable. While homes were visible from a few holes they did not come into play. No hole stood out design wise to me as a signature hole as most were solid, but the 17th hole was my favorite just for the view off the back of the green. My piece of advice would be to move up a tee box, especially if it is wet. My criticisms, while small, include all long par 3’s without much variety in club selection wise, and I did not think the yardages were marked well.

Played Sunday, July 1 2012 in the morning, teeing off at 7:40. Played as a twosome behind a couple of fours, so it felt even a little slower than the 4.5 hours that it was. Conditions continue to be awesome. I think the only thing that could be better is if the greens were a little bit faster. They felt a little slow, but still rolled nice and true, and only a well struck shot would hold. Fairways, rough, and traps were all excellent, and the tee boxes were nice and level with hardly any divot damage. I didn't use the range, but they do have a nice facility to warm up and practice at. Home Course has still got to be the best value in western Washington.

Home course has got to be the best value in western Washington, certainly it's the best that I've ever played. Just played today, 4/22/12, and it is in real good shape. The greens have recovered very well from the punch, and they're rolling really nice. Quicker than most places, but not out of control. Sand was great, fairway and rough pretty solid as well. Pace was a little slow, but it was the warmest day of the year so far so I would bet it was slow everywhere. The course has wide fairways and huge greens, but you still have to hit the right shot to get the reward. It's a ways to go from Seattle, but it is definitely worth the drive, and the price is nice as well.
