Played here yesterday with nodoubles22 for our GK Cup match. We got a great “Deal” time on TeeOff.com for $44/ea. after promo code. Glad we opted to play in the desert because it was a beautiful day while the L.A. basin was socked in under thick cloud cover all day. Wind kicked up a little bit toward the end of our round. The course was busy and pace was sluggish (around 4:45), made worse by the impatient group behind us who yelled for us to pick up the pace, attempted to pass us until they realized there was nowhere to go and hit into us as we were leaving a green complex one time. So, jerks, basically. (nodoubles22 exacted some harmless revenge in one instance, which was funny.) Customer service was great and the facilities are topnotch!

Conditions are very nice! Greens were a little crusty but rolled smooth at medium-fast to fast speeds. They were more firm than soft, but full shots would check up. Chips rarely checked up unless precisely struck. It was rare to make a ball mark. Fairways were 95% great with a few sporadic browned-out areas. Rough was lush and not very penal. Tee boxes were good. A few had areas with quite a few divots. I was in a ton of bunkers and they all had sufficient sand and in good condition.

I’d only played this course once around 2002 or so. I remembered liking it but I really enjoyed it yesterday. The scorecard says Faldo (with Schmidt/Curley) designed it to emulate sandbelt courses, and I’ve been very interested in Royal Melbourne lately, so I loved that aspect of it. Fun time playing with nodoubles22 and I hope we get to play together again soon!

Played Shadow Ridge on 5/3/18 as part of my 72 holes in two days golf outing. Its hard to rate any of the desert course that are good so I'll do my best and not compare it to the other course reviews that will follow.

Customer service was outstanding, from the moment you drive up your feeling a star. Clubhouse is well stocked and check in is easy. Practice facilities are well kept, green and in very good shape. Everything you can ask for, great practice bunker area, chipping, and terrific practice green.
Course is lush very green, fairways well maintained with few unrepaired divots, and providing a descent and fair and descent amount of roll. Rough is somewhat penal depending on how fair you stray, and how or where the ball comes to rest. Most of the time I had a good shot at getting club face to the ball, however I did experience plenty of grass between the clubface and ball on several occasions as well. Bunkers were great terrific sand quality and plenty of coverage, allowing for any and all recovery shots. Greens were quick, almost to the point of fast, with plenty of break, undulations, and several difficult collection areas. Tee boxes showed little ware and very few unrepaired divot damage. Terrific course and always a most for my round of 72 holes.

Great deal on underpar for $89 with all day replay. The desert courses are already in high season pricing, so this is really a great deal. The course is wonderful, with spectacular routing and design.... Continue »

Great deal on underpar for $89 with all day replay. The desert courses are already in high season pricing, so this is really a great deal. The course is wonderful, with spectacular routing and design. I enjoyed the front 9 better, as the back got progressively more difficult with a challenging but great 18th hole finish. Conditions are palm Desert perfect right now. Fairways, greens, and rough all good. Only drawback was pace of play. Lots of vacationers and couples. I played with a group, very nice, with two beginners. The more experienced player in their group tried to keep it going and had them pick up on several holes. But we still finished a hole behind and clocked in at 5hrs 10 minutes. That killed the chance for completing a replay round. But at $89 for the loop.....awesome. Highly recommend.

Played here for first time on a Thursday morning, 11/16/17. As with all new courses, I usually play a set of tees up, from where I would normally play. Played Gold at 6204, 69.2 / 125, which turned out to be plenty of challenge for me. Weather was near perfect, mid 70's and course did not disappoint. Just out of typical October maintenance, carts are now allowed back on fairways. Overall, exceptional conditions, knowing they will be even better in another few weeks. Tee boxes level, and clean. Fairways were just a hair on thin side in spots, but mostly very good, and very green. (The entire course was a stunning bright, green throughout). I can imagine fairways will soften up a bit as they fill in a bit more, and will provide a nicer cushion as winter approaches. Greens (as judged by a couple of locals who play here often) were slightly slow, but still rolled nicely. A few old ball marks here and there, but again very little to complain about. Lots of undulation in these large greens, with sideboards, false fronts and collection areas to catch stray approach shots. Bunkers greenside were excellent. Lots of bunkers throughout provides visually demanding tee shots in many case, with options. Decent GPS on board, but I relied on the yardage book I purchased to help with sight lines a to decide which angle I'd like to approach green. Bunkers in fairway were a bit confusing. A mix of dirt, sand and spotty grass / weed overgrowth. Unsure if they usually in this shape or if there is near future clean up due. Either way, ok top play from if you got in them. Most bunkers are steep faced, but most have flat bottom to play from. Very interesting Faldo design and layout, which I enjoyed immensely. Very different from most desert / waste area / cactus lined courses I've played in PS or AZ. Back nine plays along the Marriott time share buildings so not as secluded and quiet as the front nine. Great service inside and out. Huge practice are with grass driving range, grass wedge area, and chipping greens. I could have spent much more time than I had in the practice area. Enjoyed the first 18 so much, I jumped back out for a replay and got thru 14 holes the second trip, before sunset. Pretty hefty price tag, but I'm glad I made the trip and played this course. Might be my favorite in the PS area along with Classic Club and Desert Willow. Recommend.

Greens plush and healthy. As is normal for summer in PS, greens are SLOW. Fairways and rough in good condition, with a rare dead spot here and there.

SR is a really fun layout. Not easy, but not too punishing either. Staff is nice and helpful. Highly recommended.

Played the Greens (6621/71.5/130) in slightly over 4H in temps approaching 120. I knew from a previous round that the course was "summer shaggy", but I enjoy this fun layout. The Bermuda tees were maintained too long for my taste. Some were near immaculate, some okay while a few were poor. The Bermuda fairways were also maintained long which limited the amount of roll and made the course play long. Semi lush overall but many fairways had sporadic patches of bare spots. The Bermuda rough was mostly lush and penal. Just tall enough to catch and turn your club. The green side sand traps were well maintained with good quality white sand which produced several fried eggs. Fairway traps were firmer and good to play from, I know, because I sampled several of them. Some fairway traps are waste bunkers & less maintained. The greens here are very firm, which affects chips, pitch shots all the way to high lofted, well struck irons. They putted medium slow and were somewhat bumpy. The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. Drink cart out and around numerous times. Recommended = Yes.

Played 36 holes from the Greens (6621/71.5/130), averaging 4 1/4H per round with Robule, Mendel & Larry. It was 88 when we teed off early morning and 117 when we finished late afternoon. The breeze was welcome! The layout is fun to play and suits my eye well overall. Numerous risk/reward par 4's that could produce a 3/4 or 6/7. Two par 4's over 460 from even the next to back set of tees. The par 3's offer a good variation in length and look. There are numerous large fairway bunkers to avoid, but the landing areas on most par 4's & par 5's tee shots are generous in width. Sixpez's recent review was spot on. While the conditions were not bad, they were poor based on what I have experienced here previously. The Bermuda tees were a mixed bag all over the board. Several were near immaculate. Others looked like a par 3 tee on a muni course. The Bermuda fairways were semi lush but maintained long, you did not get alot of roll, which made the course play long. Many fairways had sporadic patches of bare spots. The Bermuda rough was mostly lush and just tall enough to make you think twice when using longer clubs. Usually nice to chip out of. The green side sand traps were well maintained with good quality white sand. Almost too much, our group had several balls bury in the faces of bunkers. Numerous traps that appear to be green side from the tee are actually 25-50 yards from greens, so you can get unusual length sand shots here. Some fairway traps are waste bunkers & less maintained. The greens were firm, putted medium slow speed and were somewhat bumpy. They held approach shots with some run out with hardly any ball marks because of the firmness. The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. Drink cart out and around numerous times. Recommended = Yes.

I had a GroupGolfer voucher about to expire soon, so I used it this morning. 6:00 tee time and was paired with two other singles. Could have been a quicker round, but they were more deliberate (one guy especially) and we finished in about 3.5 hours. Never saw anyone behind us and we had to play around maintenance much of the round.

The course is in pretty nice shape from tee to green. The tee boxes were good. The fairways had pretty lush coverage. The bermuda turf is soft, fluffy and kind of grabby, so you had to commit to each swing knowing the club would dig in and take a huge divot. We hit a number of fat shots and a few flyers, so it was trickier than it looked. Rough had pretty good, lush coverage throughout. I wasn't in any bunker, but they looked decently maintained from what I could see. The greens were disappointing because they are still healing from the recent aeration. They were very inconsistent in speed, ranging from medium-slow to dreadfully slow, and they were a bit bumpy at times. Should be nicer in another couple weeks I hope. The greens here are difficult enough that guessing the speeds really added more challenge.

This is a great course. It doesn't quite get the attention as some of the other top courses in the desert, but it deserves mention. Summer is not the best time to play it, but worth visiting for the right price and considering it's really close to home for me now. Otherwise, one to definitely seek out when in season and in peak condition.

Played on Sunday 6-11 with five other GKers. Weather was perfect! Most of the course was too. We had UnderPar deals for unlimited play. Our preference was to play three and three but the course said no, they were too busy. So we played four and two- and they put another two-some with our two. That would've been absolutely acceptable except there was a two-some behind them!!! Just a little snafu. The course was in good condition, fairways nice, about 75% of the tee boxes in good shape with 25% having a rather lumpy contour. Greens looked super fast but were actually pretty slow. Sand, and there's a LOT of it on this course, was very nice- slightly firm underneath and light and fluffy on top. I think I sampled the sand on every hole this round! LOL Its an interesting layout. The pace was pretty slow but we were enjoying each others company so didn't worry about it too much. Cart girl came around twice. That would've been fine but this ended up being almost a 6 hour round! Yes, SIX. The marshal drove by several times but since the pace never picked up not sure he did anything. After a very quick lunch (and the biggest soft pretzel I've ever seen!) we went back out around 2:30pm as three and three. I believe THIS round was finished in under three hours! No one on the course, a little windy, but great temperature! While this course is a nice course, well maintained and beautiful, with enough water to be interesting it's not on the top of my list for desert courses. A six hour round is a little ridiculous and surely plays into my feelings but the bigger issue is that much of the course is surrounded by Marriott resort condos. The children in those condos use the course as their personal playground. There were kids in the fairway with toys, kids playing in the water, and kids using the bunkers as great places to jump into and slide down. After the round we discussed it with the cart guys and they acknowledged that yes, it's a problem and no, Marriott isn't very interested in fixing it. Playing the course at UnderPar prices makes all of this acceptable but I certainly wouldn't pay full price to play.
