This is a unique and challenging course, you have to stay focused on every shot. If you are a sprayer of the golf ball, this place is not for you. It is strictly target golf and no two holes are the same. The elevation up here is around 5200 feet and one would think that at that short yardage that it is would be a piece of cake. The back nine in particular has a lot of uphill shots and one can throw the yardage out the window. So if you want to be challenged this is the course for you.

Played this course for the 2nd time ever on 10/26/2009 and enjoyed the course just as much as I did the first time I played it a couple of years ago. This course is like a roller coaster on steroids! Elevation changes galore . . blind shots around every corner, uphill and downhill greens, forced carries on nearly every hole and an adrenaline rush on every shot you hit! Pay attention to the GPS on the carts, because course knowledge is very helpful. There are holes where you need to keep the driver in the bag, and others where you might think you need to, but the green could be reachable with a well placed driver. This is very much a risk-reward course. If you execute the shot, then the payoff is great! . . If you don't . . then start digging through your bag for another ball because you're not gonna find that last one you hit! I like this course a lot, and if it weren't for the fact that it's nearly 5 hours away, I'd play it much more often. As it is . . I look forward to at least 1 trip to Prescott every year now so we can put Stoneridge on our "must play" list. I think 18 is the hardest hole I've ever played. I'm still not sure that there's a "right" way to play it. It's a double dogleg par 5 that starts with a forced carry, a tricky decision on whether to blast a fairway wood over another "lost ball canyon" or play it safe with a blind 2nd shot to a very narrow fairway that you can't see. But if you score well on this hole (which I haven't) then you'll know you earned your par! Have already made plans for another road trip to Prescott to play this course again this summer!

Loved the course every thing was perfect but the greens were a little bumpy. But even with that it's one of my favorite courses thus far.

In town working in the local area and I brought my clubs for some AZ golf. Researched the local courses on the web and found StoneRidge nearby. This golf course has a challenging layout. Severe elevation changes, lots of (kiss your ball goodbye) areas. Very beautiful location and surroundings, with lot of the local rock and dry vegetation. You are required to know your shot distance and location, this is crucial. I hit a drive on #2 that followed the fairway slight right, later to see it continue to roll off to the right and out of bounds and out of reach. The fairways roll up/down/left/right. Lot's of elevated tees, Peaceful play. I really had an enjoyable round as a single playing with a couple locals to guide me through the smart shots. The customer service was first class from when I was greated when I arrived, to the club cleaning service and friendly thanx for playing their course. I wish more golf was like this place. With that said, the value is above and beyond worth it. Spend it, play it, and bring a lot of balls. I'm a true hacker and enjoy the game. Take care.

Stoneridge is one of the most challenging courses to be found.
Canyons, hills, it is not a walkers course. Give it a try. Your avg will definitely suffer to begin with.

Played this course this weekend. Was up in Prescott for a convention, and took the time to stay a little longer and play StoneRidge. What a treat! This course was remarkable. It certainly doesn't qualify as a desert course, but there are some desert course characteristics to it. The elevation changes were dramatic. From the first tee, where you are elevated and playing to an elevated green to the 18th where you are driving across a ravine down through a valley to another elevated green this course was great. GPS certainly helped throughout the play of the course because there were a number of blind shots. The 18th was the trickiest. It's a 5 that certainly isn't reachable in 2 for someone who hits it like me. You'd have to be a pretty long ball hitter to reach this in 2 and then only after you risk a long shot over a major ravine to the elevated green. It's about 3 1/2 hours for me to drive to play this course, which now, after playing for the first time . . I would travel without any questions asked. Definately a cart course. Wouldn't even consider walking this course. We played with a couple who had some knee issues, and they struggled with the terrain. I highly recommend this course. If you don't hit it straight then make sure you bring lots of balls.
