In Phoenix for a work trip and we took a day to play the Arizona Biltmore Adobe course. It's an old classic William Bell design with some gorgeous and impressive homes surrounding it, along with some nice mountain views, all while essentially being in downtown Scottsdale area - quite unique.

In truth, the course is not very difficult despite the big name architect attached to it. It was designed in 1928, and it appears they moved some of the holes around, but it's quite straightforward with some narrow fairways but plenty of room on adjacent holes to spray balls. There are some water features that come into play for sure, but it's going to be a good day to go low if you're even remotely on point.

In terms of conditions, very nice right now, and we caught it on a perfect 80 degree day. The greens are in excellent shape, running fast and straight, but very firm and difficult to keep any approach shots on. Nothing too tricked out but some of the greens are quite small so they were difficult to navigate. But very solid.

Fairways were nice and green and found good lies all day long. The rough is lush but not too penal, while the bunkers I was in were in good shape. Found a few rounded tee boxes (we played from the whites) but for the most part they were just fine. Nothing really to complain about in terms of conditions whatsoever.

The driving range is in an interesting spot where you have to drive past the first tee to get there (not visible from the starter/pro shop area), and there's a nice little snack shot there to get whatever you need. Warmup facilities are good but the range does play next to first hole and some others so range balls can make finding your own tricky if you're playing a yellow one.

Really enjoyed the experience despite playing a very poor round on a course I should have played much, much better. I would like to return for a future work trip and give it another shot, but also play the more challenging Links course here as well.

I played this course on 6/10/12. I have played a large percentage of the golf courses in the Phoenix area, but this was my first time playing here. I wouldn't pay $10 to play this course again , let alone the $$$$ that they usually charge. The starter told me the course was built in the 1920's. Apparently , all they've done since it was built is cut the grass. It is a giant sea of grass , with what seems to be the same hole over and over again , going up and back. The conditions were dry and hard. The only positive was there was nice sand in the bunkers.

This is an outstanding course.... The course is self contained with some very large houses around the perimeter... It is offers some challenging holes with lots of mature trees... There is a little bit of water but not too much... The sand is very, very soft, so don't expect any bounce... The cart girl came by about 3 or 4 times during the round... the only downside is the range was a little small because they had a lot of it blocked off... also to get to the range you have to drive past the first tee box which means to get back to the first tee you have to drive the cart back to the tee box as people may be teeing off right at you - so pay attention... this course is definitely worth the green fee...

Outstanding course!! The course was in great shape. The greens, tee boxes, and fairways were phenomenal. The rough was thin but it is winter in Arizona and the rough is not overseeded. The range is in a bit of an awkward place - you have to go past the first tee box - but it is laid out great!! The range, chipping green, sand trap, and putting green are all right together. The layout of the course is good. We played the blues so there were times when it was a bit of a walk to the tee box from the cart path. There are A LOT of fairway sand traps. A number of them force you to hit a very good drive to carry them. The sand in the traps is soft so you better be on your game. The greens roll true and are good speed. There are very few flat, straight putts. Attendants meet you in the parking lot to pick up your clubs and ride out to the parking lot after your round so you don't have to carry them to the car, and they bring the cart back. Great experience, great course, great staff!!! Can't wait to play there again!!

Thank goodness we booked on golf now, as if I payed the full rack rate for this track, I would be pissed. There are some beautiful homes surrounding the course but this doesn't make it worthy of $$$$. Maybe in it's day, but not now.

Played this course with my wife on 12/20/2008. The conditions were fantastic. The fairways were as nice as any I have seen in a long time. The greens were well manicured, and the rough was cut pretty low. The sand was fantastic in the bunkers. I found quite a bit of sand, and it was smooth and fluffy. The course is an "old school" type of course, with quite a few fairways running parallel to each other, so there was a lot of "cross fairway pollination" going on. Had quite a few groups hitting from our fairway, and I had to hit from their fairway a couple of times. Gave the course a sort of crowded feeling. There is a nice mix of doglegs/straight/3's/4's/5's on the course. You always had the feeling that you were playing a different hole. Each had to be attacked differently. The staff was very professional and friendly. Although I'm more used to "desert" environment courses, and not that big a fan of "old school" courses, this is a nice course to play. The clubhouse is full of pictures of past US Presidents that have played the Biltmore. For that reason alone . . the fact that this is one of the original great Phoenix area courses, it is worth playing. Would I play it again . . well, maybe not . . but I'm glad I played it at least once!
