I played here last Saturday with fellow GKer, DKnight. We had a 1:30 time, but got out about 10-15 minutes early. POP on that nine was 1.25 hrs. We had to wait for the second go-around and we were told that we could go at 3:30; right after he checked in two groups (3:00 and 3:15). Those groups were a little on the slow side. It took them 2.5 hrs to finish in front of us. The shop pro was apologetic and offered us a couple of beers when we finished. Thanks, Bob!

Course conditions were excellent. The scenery is just magnificent. The course is situated at the south side of town and is exposed to the sun, more so than Sierra Star. It almost seems like a links style course, in that there was a distinct lack of big trees and a steady wind. We had good weather with a steady 15 mile per hour breeze out of the west.

Greens: They were undulating, somewhat large and rolled nice. Speed was medium fast, maybe around an 11 or 12.

Fairways: Great turf throughout. Cut nicely and had good roll. A nice mat of turf to hit from; way nicer than the rough.

Rough: Super-lush and thick. Most areas were deep enough to make finding your ball a challenge. So thick, it was hard to advance your ball. Penal? Yeah, you might say so.

Sand: Most of the bunkers were okay, but some had hard pan under a thin layer of nice sand. At least one bunker had standing water. Not terrible by any means, though.

Overall, we had a great time here. It can be slow as we discovered; we could have stopped at 9 holes, but we prepaid for 18. Great location for summer golf in the mountains. Customer service was excellent and all COVID-19 precautions were adhered to.

What do I do when there's still some daylight left? Oh yeah, I play more golf! Actually I was hoping to squeeze Snowcreek in this evening and it worked out, just barely. I got over there around 5:30 and the pro shop guy looked eager to start shutting down. He told me I was welcome to play if I walked because he didn't want to give out any more carts that might not return until after dark. He said it was pretty crowded out and I may or may not finish the 9 holes. It was a weird exchange, but I didn't care. The price was an insane $35 to walk 9 holes in the evening. Again, Mammoth only has two options in town, so they jack up the rates I guess. I played the first holes pretty quickly and then caught the groups ahead. It was really just a twosome in front of me and then a sixsome ahead of them. Drunk guys that were hitting balls all over the place and running around like idiots. They all had carts by the way. I joined the twosome and then luckily the marshal came around to force that sixsome to let us play through on the 5th hole. It doesn't seem like much, but we finished way ahead of those guys as it was starting to get darker and colder once the sun disappeared behind the mountain. The course was in really nice shape. Overall I thought it was better conditioned than Sierra Star. Tee boxes, fairways and rough were great. I was in one bunker and it was fine. The greens were way too firm and nothing would hold, but they were rolling smooth at relatively quick speeds. Sierra Star is a better overall course, but Snowcreek is probably the nicest 9-hole course I've played. Par-35 and normal hole lengths, so it's a legit regulation layout if you play it twice. Much more wide open than Sierra Star. Most holes are very forgiving off the tee, but the greens are pretty difficult and well protected. Beautiful setting back in the valley facing Mammoth Rock. The guys I joined up with told me everything slopes away from the rock. The first 4 holes play slightly uphill, into the grain and directly into the howling wind, so walking the course was exhausting early on after a long day of golf. However, heading back the other way slightly downhill and with the wind behind me was great. The service was a little questionable and the price is way too much for a 9-holer, but it is a quality product on the course.

Snowcreek is in great condition right now. Greens were some of the best I've putted on. Running about 12 on the stimp. You really have to prioritize where you land the ball. Rough is lush and very thick, especially around the greens. Fairways were lush as well. Didn't end up in any traps but the bunkers looked great. The $25 late day price is well worth it, watch out for the wind though.

Played the course in the afternoon on 9/14/2012. This is very scenic, full-yardage (9)- hole course. Play it again for your 18 hole score. Completely different from the Sierra Star course. Need to keep it in the fairway for a GIR chance. Greens were hard, fast, and difficult to read. Water hazards on the course. The real challenge in Mammoth golf is figuring out the correct club when you factor in the altitude. Usually windy in the afternoons to make things interesting. Staff is very helpful and accommodating.
