They are working hard on this golf course! The customer service is very good here, the staff is friendly and helpful.
I teed of at about 11:00 as a single, on the back nine. The little putting green behind the tee was pretty quick but the greens out on the course were about a third slower. I guessed them to be about a 8-8.5. They still putted very true it was just difficult to get the ball past the hole even on downhill putts.
The fairways have improved 100% over the last time I played there. They are covered with good grass with no bare spots. Although I found that they appeared to be wet and in some places overwatered.
The only area that really needs attention is the sand in the bunkers! It is thin and very inconsistent. I know as spent more time than usual in them.
The only other item is the pace of play, I play in about 3 to 3.5 hrs, the average round there seems to take about 4.5 and I can't figure out why.
All things considered this is a very good little golf course and a great value for a senior at $21 walking.

One of my new regular tracks in the Sacramento-Stockton area. The strength of this course, as mentioned in previous reviews, are the bent grass greens. Greens were soft from the recent rains, but still very fast. Best putting surface around in the area.

Fairways were cut short and grass was cut very thin for winter. With the recent rains, I had quite an issue with mud on most shots. Had to play lift clean and place to get through the round. The course itself is very flat, fairly long, with bunkers and hazards on many holes. Think park-like setting. Enjoyed myself despite the weather and will return.

Played as a single, stared at about 11 finished about 2. It was pretty cold no warmer than 50 degrees the course was wet and the fairways are soft so every ball had mud on it. The greens are what make this course worth playing. They are in great condition even at this time of the year. Pure bentgrass they roll true and fast, only about 10 today but its just fun to play on greens where the ball goes where I expect it to and not bounce all over the place. I can look past all the other short comings for these greens. The other item I would like to mention is how accommodating and helpful the shop staff is. There was a group of 4 foursomes going off on the first tee, so I asked if I could start on the back then play the front, there was no one coming up 9 so they let me go. This allowed me to play a comfortable three hour round walking. As a senior I only payed $25 with a small warmup bucket. Overall a great value.

I played here on 05/13/12 from the blue tees at 72.0/131/6559. This course was private, but because of the economy it was sold and the new owners, who have done a great job with the course, allow public play. At first glance this course reminded me of nearby Swenson Park with the tree lined fairways and laid out in an older housing community, but having played both courses Elkhorn knocks the socks off of Swenson Park (still not as good as Spanos though). The value is outstanding as I paid $28 to walk on a weekend afternoon and made it around in less than 3 hours as nobody was out. This is a flat course, but the greens are raised so approaches and chips have to be well controlled. There are a good mix of short and long holes, but even the short holes require precision approaches to well guarded greens with a lot slope. The course played firm and fast and with a two club wind all day I found myself firing away from a lot of flags to the fat parts of the greens just so that I could putt. And speaking of putting, putting on these greens was a delight due to their outstanding condition. These have to be some of the best greens in the Central Valley. Off the tee the course is not terribly difficult as the fairways as wide compared to most tree lined places, but ending up behind a tree could result in a pitch out so it does require a solid driving day to play well here. The fairways and rough were in good shape, but could use some work in spots. My favorite holes were the par 3 9th and the par 3 13th. Both holes were visually intimidating, but because it was only a mid iron it still was possible to make a decent score. If I had to pick a couple things that I did not like about the course it would be that the bunkers were inconsistent and did not have adequate sand and in some places and the road noise was very noticeable. In short, Elkhorn offers a charming classic layout with great greens.

Played here today, I am seriously thinking about buying in on the membership. Walked on as a single hit about 12 - 14 warm up balls and was able to get out right away. Decided to see how easy this course is to walk, I carry and found it to be a pleasure specially at $21. I am a freek for smooth fast greens and they have them now. Today they rolled about 9-10 which is very comfortable for most people. Every green was the same very consistent and true. I played with an older member who saw my putts and commented that I was overreading the greens, once I started going after the hole they started to drop. "Don't overread."
The fairways are starting to dry out from the heat, (95 today) they were watering hard in the middle of the day. Some of the fairways are getting a little thin but still very playable. The area where they need to invest some money IMHO are the Tee boxes they all could use a good updating. Some are thin with bare spots, some are not level,
some have lots of divot damage. But this can easily overlooked.
Another area that needs attention is the rough, there are areas where there is no grass at all or very large dirt spots. the rough grasses are thin. The bunkers are that heavy river-bottom sand which require a hard swing and some are thin on sand.
I really like this course and am being more critical because of the potential, they have done a great job in resurrecting a course that was all but dead. This is a great layout and could easily be a jewel for the central valley.

Tried to get on at Micke Grove Saturday AM, but shotgun tournament underway. Heard Elkhorn CC is now public, called to verify & got tee time for an hour later. Always knew this was a top rated private course & still is now that its public, especially with the new bent grass greens. Pace of play was 41/2 hrs on a Saturday, & appeared that the tee times were full - not bad. Drink cart came by numerous times, didn't keep track, walked for 38.00. Great deal for virtually a private club experience, immaculate fairways. Very challenging with long tight par fours. Also have memberships available for 199.00 initiation, 99.00 mo. unlimited play.

Played Monday 3/12, 9:15 tee time; walked in 3:30 as a 2some. Course in great shape. Considering less than a year ago, this place was gone due to bankruptcy, it's been resurrected from the dead. Nice track winding through a community, tons of trees; at least 5 or 6 tee shots through a chute... pretty narrow course. Greens in great shape, about a 10 on the stimp; roll true; And the price is right, for $30 to walk what was once a private course is a pretty good deal. Customer service was top notch. If you play in Stockton alot, I recommend the membership. Can't beat the price. I would definitely play here again.
