Played here today. I lived/worked in Silicon Valley 25 years and nobody ever told be about the E and W courses here in Vallejo. I wish they had.

Played the E this AM with a local (thank goodness) and we had a POP 3H as first off. Local knowledge was very helpful.

Built in 1949 the W course was designed by course architect Jack Fleming and the E in 1993 by Robert Muir Graves (one of my personal favorite architects).

I describe the E course as a hidden gem of a public course and add its like Black Gold and Westridge on steroids. The elevation changes are fantastic. Number 5 hdcp # 1 makes number 17 at Westridge, 18 at Laguna Seca, and Number 2 at Black Gold look like ant hills. When I say straight up, I mean 488 yards straight up and then an elevated green (only flat lie on the whole hole).

Number 7 is a par 5 downhill then back uphill that looks like a snake slithering across the ground.

And the 5 par 3's are are all unique and great designs. Loved every one of them.

If the W course is anything like the E I can't wait to play here.

You would think on a hilly course tee boxes would be unlevel. Nope every one was level, clean and peg friendly.

Fairways are well groomed, provide good roll out but have many OB lining them. Being in the fairway is necessary as the rough around the whole course is thick and hard to play out of.

Traps are decent size but deep and IMO could use more sand. Maybe because of all the rain they have become compacted and just need turning? But the same people up here are related to those in S CA that don't know how to rake a trap.

Greens are good size, clean and receptive to good high shots, release shots and chip and putt just fine on all holes. In very nice shape.

This course is one to put on your list if you are in N CA Bay Area. I look forward to playing the W course and seeing the differences in the two. Located minutes right off Columbus Parkway on I 80.

Friendly staff all around. $47 Sr rate. I believe $29 for Sr to walk and no idea what the other rates are.

I will go back and play this and the W course in the near future.
