Played today in beautiful Napa Valley weather and paid $35 with cart. They must like seniors. Was told that Johnny Miller did the front 9 but the back 9 is the old back 9 of Chardonnay Club (which was once a 36 hole layout) after they sold the front 9 and Eagle Vines took over the back. So Miller did the front but Algie Pulley did both Chardonnay courses. So you have two different 9's to play. Very enjoyable. Front 9 winds through the vineyards running along the holes and the back 9 is IMO very similar to La Purisma. Front 9 has OB areas, water and vineyards to avoid. And several long carries to elevated greens as well. Back 9 has water, elevated carries but several elevation changes with greens very elevated and greens well below the tee boxes. #15 is a drivers delight and an amatuers disaster given the carry needed to hit the fairway. Every tee box was level and immaculate. Fairways are wide and give great lies and roll out. Front and back have several holes that have marsh or water in front of an elevated green. And you better be d%mn long off the tee on each hole. Or just layup and take your medicine. But many OB areas, creeks lined with trees and water hazards on every hole. Lots of elevation changes on both 9's Rough was playable on all holes. Traps are big on the front and line fairways and sides of greens but only errant shots will get you in trouble. Not so on the back. Totally different traps and many guarding the greens. Greens are not overly large but large enough with undulations that can bring 3 putts into play. But today they were in great shape and played very much like the two putting greens at the clubhouse. But they chipped, putted super all round. The 18th hole is a great closing hole. All up hill to a large green and no level lies on any of your shots. 454 from tips plays more like 500+. Great customer service in the clubhouse from Mathew. Did not visit the restaurant but it looked appealing and with a great patio and view. Located off I 80 E and Hwy 12 into Napa .
