Wilson Ci7 Control Iron Set 4-GW with Steel Shafts : Bred from the award-winning Ci6 iron, Wilson s Ci7 Irons have been re-imagined with a Tour-inspired, midsize shape designed to reach a broad range of players. The Ci7 delivers maximum head stability and forgiveness; the power generated by its thin face and undercut cavity is balanced by the unique perimeter weighting. Playability is maximized in these irons by the clubhead weighting and shaft technologies. The cavity-back notch generates increased MOI, which is complemented by the thin face that delivers more power and the undercut cavity which provides greater head stability. The steel shafts are a Tour-proven True Temper TX 105 lightweight shaft and feature Progressive Tip Design which is a softer tip (lower kick point) in the long irons for higher ball flight, transitioning to a stiffer tip (higher kick point) in the scoring irons to maximize control and accuracy. The Ci7 features Wilson s exclusive Elastomeric paint coating in the back cavity, which dampens vibration by up to 1/3, providing a much softer feel — especially on shots that are miss-hit. Features: Thin face delivers maximum power Central notch accentuates perimeter weighting for increased MOI Undercut cavity for greater head stability Elastomeric paint in cavity reduces vibration by a third

Excellent club flies under the radar
Wednesday February 11, 2009
I was looking for mid-handicapper-appropriate clubs to replace my 30 year old Executives. I had problems with the look of a lot of contemporary clubs: heads that looked like hybrids or thick toplines with a lot of technology showing in the back. For me, the Ci7 has a cleaner, more classic look that doesn't get in the way visually. It doesn't hurt that it's a classy looking club in the bag also. The basic set comes 4-GW -- without a 3-iron, but adding the gap wedge. Like all newer clubs, they were flighted a step down from my old clubs. I find the 4-iron flights about the same as my old 3-iron. All of the clubs hit one club further. My old 150 yd club was my 7, in this set it's my 8, 100 yds was PW, now it's GW, and so on through the set. The clubs give solid distance -- surprisingly so on mis-hits. Ball really pops off the face and still provides some workability and feedback despite the forgiveness. Paddy Harrington is a Wilson player and in one promo, he bemoans not being a 10-handicapper so he could use them because he liked the results so much. Well, when he won the PGA he had the higher level clubs in his bag, but had replaced the 3 and 4 irons with Ci7's -- so apparently he meant it. It suggests a club good enough for a mid handicapper who looks to improve and still have relevent equipment. At $499.00 retail, the set was $330-$500 less than comparable clubs I was considering. I tried and purchased them at a demo day where I was also fitted and got a discount, so final price, tax and all, was about $480. They don't get the advertising of some others, but these clubs are a solid buy. I'm very happy with them. Broke 80 for the first time a couple of months ago with them. Because everyone is different, I don't suggest buying these or any clubs without trying them out on a range for a real sense of how they hit, but do try them.
