Played on Tuesday, 4/20 in a light rain. The course is in decent shape. After playing the likes of Moorpark CC, Angeles National, Rustic Canyon, you really appreciate how great the conditions are those venues. I found the fairways at Brookside to be acceptable, but there are many areas of clumpy grass and some bare spots. But it's quite playable. For a muni type course, it's an enjoyable track. But the overall conditions can't compare to some of the better courses in the area. But the price reflects that, so there is value in playing this course. My only real complaint is the pace of play. Even on a weekday with inclement weather it took nearly 5 hours to play. There are a lot of walkers on the course, which is fine. But it seems like many of them walk in slow motion. Maybe I'm just too impatient! LOL.

Played twilight so didnt really get to see holes 10-18. Course is still kinda dirty from the rose bowl event last week

Played Brookside #1 for the first time today (2/13/10), and I guess the beautiful weather brought all the hackers out. Starter got me into a foursome and out on the course immediately, but once we finished #1, we found ourselves third in line to play #2, and this pattern of waiting continued until #6, where things eased up a bit... only to hit the logjam again at #10. The marshals needed to be more proactive about keeping things moving, because the stop-and-start routine really made it difficult to get any kind of rhythm to our games, and the round stretched to nearly 6 hours. As far as the course goes, it was in pretty decent shape for a muni. Fairways had a few thin/dead patches here and there, but not so bad as to be a major problem. Greens were fast! In fact, combined with some of the deceptive slopes on many of the holes and tiering on some others, putting was an adventure -- and treacherous at times! Layout of the course isn't particularly spectacular, but there were some challenging pin positions -- especially #9, where the pin was behind two tall trees guarding the green -- so there were some risk/reward situations to test our course management skills. Bunkers were consistently good, neither too hard nor too soft. I would like to try the course again in a situation where I could play straight through without the delays, because those made it difficult to really get a feel for the course.

The speed of the greens were deceptively fast, particularly when you were "out of position" The fairways had "dirt, rocks, dust?" throughout the course, Very strange. We could not figure out the source of this material? Pace was slow! As I get older, and shorter, there are a number of par 4's out here that are too much for my game now. I'm just too stuborn to move up, so made lots of boogies on those holes.

The fairways were in very good condition as well. They are re-doing many tee boxes, but their condition shouldn't affect your play.

The greenskeeper placing the cup on sun. 10.18 needs to spend a weekend in a remedial "how to" class. Many liners were only 1/4" below the surface. I had 1 putt dead center middle hit the liner and pop out 8" away. I hate playing after UCLA football games, especially at weekend rates.

Played the morning of 10/12. Our foursome was able to get the standard rate despite the holiday. Not very crowded at all. Finished in about 4 hrs and we were kinda slow. Course is in decent shape ... Continue »

Played the morning of 10/12. Our foursome was able to get the standard rate despite the holiday. Not very crowded at all. Finished in about 4 hrs and we were kinda slow. Course is in decent shape considering the start of UCLA football. Still some broken bottles and charcoal bricks scattered about but I think it keeps a lot of the crowd away. Greens on #1 are still a couple weeks from recovery but more playable than #2.
