The fairways, tee boxes, rough and bunkers are all in good shape. I would give it a 6.5/7 out of 10. Very playable, nice and green too. But the greens!! Of the 18 greens maybe 5 of them are in normal condition but the rest have dead spots all over the place. Look like some kind of fungus/disease. The dead spots are punched and sanded. It was not fun to put on, green speed was inconsistent and bumpy. I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon until they get this under control.

Played Thursday 6/27 9:30am tee time. Pace of play 4 hours. Overall conditions are good. Tee boxes are ok, flat for most part with good coverage. Fairways are nice, typical muni, mixed grass but good coverage with only minor bare areas, no complaints. The rough is similar condotion, thick in some areas that are not cut, no complaints. The bunkers are hit and miss, some have decent amount of sand and some are thin. The greens... I remember Chester having pretty nice green but at the moment the greens are very bumpy and the speed is very inconsistent from green to green. It looks green and healthy but not nice to put on.

Played the blues on Saturday 6/22. Had a 1pm tee time so prepared for a slow round but it wound up pushing the very limits of acceptability. Not sure what's happened to the greens here but it's been a month since their second punching of the season and they're still not rolling well. Putts do not hold their lines and bobble quite a bit. There is also some variance in green speeds as some are not cut as low as others. Extremely frustrating. Other parts of the course are good, though some of the tee positions are pushed way back into areas that weren't level. Fairway conditions are good, rough can be thick and penal. Was in a couple of bunkers and one had no sand and one had excellent sand.

Pace of place was brutal at 5.5 hours with 2-3 group back ups on par 3s common. Folks need to learn to play tees commensurate with their ability but part of why it was taking groups so long to finish holes was due to the greens being hard to putt on.

Hope Chester can get their greens back in good shape because I enjoy this track a lot but I'd avoid for a while.

Piggybacking off yesterday's review of Chester Washington, the greens are indeed currently punched and sanded and an absolute travesty. I've putted on aerated greens before that still held lines or rolled somewhat true, but the current greens at CW are nigh unplayable and just plain awful. Sure would have been nice to have been informed in advance.

Aside from the green issues, the only bunker that actually had great sand in it was 'Ground Under Repair,' while all the other ones were thin, had rocks in them and weren't very pleasant to play from. I don't understand why the one good one was 'closed.'

Some good things? The course is more green than usual and the fairways are actually in pretty nice shape all around. The rough is thick and can be very penal if you find yourself in an extra thick patch or underneath some of the mowed shavings that can be find in a lot of areas. The tee boxes were mostly good but not all completely level so you had to find a good spot.

POP was not great with big lines at every single par 3 that often went three groups deep. It's somewhat maddening to get into a flow and then be constantly held up and lose all sense of rhythm and timing. There was no cart service at all during the afternoon and the snack shop is sadly in a very inconvenient spot going away from the 9th green in the opposite direction of the 10th tee box.

Luckily though, for all the course's current inadequacies, the cost is reasonable for a walking fee of around $43. The driving range is dated and kind of small, but it's functional and conveniently located near the first tee. But at the end of the day, why are they punching greens again in May when it was already done in April like everywhere else?

Played this morning 5/16, and was disappointed to see they have aerated again and sanded the greens. Not sure when they did it but seemed like a few days or a week ago. I was surprised because they had already punched and sanded in late March (?), and there was no notification about the maintenance when I booked. No idea why they felt like they had to punch again but oh well. Overall I guess it was fine but putts were extremely inconsistent in terms of line. Other parts of the course were fine. The rough is long again which is a penalty but still annoying because I lost a ball that really should not have been lost, just buried under grass and impossible to find. I would wait a few weeks to play Chester.

I played Chester Washington on Thursday 4/11, the first time in a while and a few weeks after they aerated the greens. The greens are healing nicely. You can barely see the punching grid pattern at this point and overall the greens rolled decently. You can't really blame missed putts on the aeration. The fairways are in the best shape I've EVER seen them, like perfect carpet with the right amount of give and firmness for both hitting irons and giving rollout on tee shots. Also, and this is a big story, the rough has been cut down to a reasonable length so balls aren't impossible to find when you miss a fairway -- haven't seen it like this ever either. Pace of play was surprisingly good -- we teed off at 8:40 and finished close to 12:30. I'm guessing in the next week the greens will pretty much be perfect, and I might get out again next week because I enjoyed it so much. Highly recommend Chester Washington right now.

Back here on Saturday 3/23 with a noon tee time. Course was fairly empty considering it rained all morning but cleared up nicely by tee time. Unfortunately the rain caused the range to close so no warm up. They do have a little chipping area near the first tee at least. Even with the rain that morning, the course dried nicely and was easy to walk. Pace was surprisingly very good all day. In fact, our threesome was behind a foursome and we were on them all day but if we'd gone first we probably would have finished in 3.5. Still, getting around in 4 was a treat. Like I said in my last review, I really like this course. It's not a difficult course but on a day that's windy the longish par 4s become very difficult when the breeze is blowing 15-20 directly into. Very small greens so it becomes a real GIR test. Overall conditions are very good, with good tee and fairway coverage, and some rough that's cut down and not very penal. Unfortunately I didn't get the aeration notice so the greens are still very bumpy but other than that it was a fun round. Didn't get into any bunkers but they did look like jail with hard or minimal sand/dirt. So avoid those. Definitely recommend once the greens heal up, though I would expect the usual jammed up tee sheet when that happens.

First time out at Chester Washington Saturday 10:40a as a threesome paired with a single. There's a smallish range with some targets along with a large putting green steps away from the first teebox. Seems to be a cart shortage here as they didn't let us check in until 10 minutes before our teetime.

Just from looking out at the course I was curious why it seems to rate so low because visually it looked pretty good. My suspicion is simply that the POP here is brutal. First tee was 3 groups backed up so we didn't get out until closer to 11:15. And then hole 2 is immediately a par 3 which necessitated another lengthy wait, so the first three holes took over an hour. Front 9 clocked in at 3 hours. Thankfully at the turn we skipped ahead of a group that went to get food, so the back 9 felt like we were flying by comparison (still took over 2 hours).

Now, POP aside, I really enjoyed this course. First 6 holes are a mix of longish par 3s and shortish par 4s. Fairly straight forward and scorable. Then the course starts adding some length and elevation and narrows your landing spots. The back 9 is somewhat of a replay, starting off easy then adding some length and some narrow fairways.

I managed to score well, considering I only hit 1 fairway on the front, but thankfully the rough isn't penal, although there is definitely tree trouble throughout. Sand was a mixed bag: some bunkers were muddy and some were dry without a lot of sand. Greens weren't bad, but they also had a lot of unfixed pitch marks. They were very soft and receptive to spike marks, especially around the cup, so putting later in the day can get challenging. They were rolling about a medium speed overall.

In summation, a fun day on a nice track, vibes overall were very chill, so I would come back for sure. Just need to make sure to block out a 6 hour round lol
