I would’ve written a review of this course but couldn’t get on. Why? Because the guy in the clubhouse mispronounced my last name twice when announcing it from the call sheet. My last name is Powell. All I heard was “Pauk”, which sounded to me like “Pak”, a common Asian name. Let’s just say this guy’s first language wasn’t English. But I’m not faulting him for that. I’m faulting him and the management for the absolute lack of any kind of effort to get me into the clubhouse to claim my spot. If I had heard any of the following:

“Pauk single.”
“Pauk to the clubhouse”
“Pauk check in”
“Pauk, come”,

that would have done it. But no. All I heard was a single word, “Pauk.” No effort whatsoever was made to find me and to get me onto the course (I was hanging out not too far away.)

Quite obviously they don’t need my money. The course was uber-crowded and the clientele was such that I was very much the outsider—the guy with the vacuous attitude mispronouncing my name fit right in, and so my not playing that day was no skin off his or La Mirada’s collective noses. This course will just have to go on the extremely short lists of courses in Southern California that I have not played. According to the reviews and what I’ve experienced, it isn’t worth it.

I think you are right about the short list... I am not feeding lumber to your fire, although i know for a fact that even the locals don't like it there either. I have only played it once and from what I remember, it isn't anything special and you are not missing much of their patchy fairways and greens and their almost could be called rough along their short track.

I say there are plenty of other courses that fits us without having these unpleasant experiences from an establishments who wants to collect money from us and making us feel this way.

Just to make a point, over the weekend, this website, Greenskeeper.org , had an outing up in Central California. I could not tell you more how everyone in their staff exerted great efforts in making you feel like you are part of their golf course. We played it two consecutive days with different staffs but the service remains as good as it gets. They want you to enjoy, make you feel comfortable so you could be your self and bring your game to their course and be a normal golfing guy. ...and they get a lot of play, too!
