The place was well run, we took a reciept to the cart handlers and were given a cart and walked up to the first tee where the starter sent us out. All the folks we encountered were friendly and helpful.

If you're a snooty golf snob you'd probably think this course is a run down muni - but to me its a guilty pleasure. The course plays long from the blue tees, as 90s shooters we probably should have played from whites (over 6800 yards from blues). The wind didn't help that but the course plays fairly easy with wide forgiving fairways and sparse hazards. Par 5s are a joy in this course, it's the 400+ yard par 4s that get you. Starting at 4pm we got through 16 holes taking our time. The fairways are fairly thin, but great to hit out of - there were plenty of bare spots but they were mostly out of the way were balls rarely collect. The rough was ok, some areas non-existent other quite high. The greens were in great shape and rolled nicely - I would say medium speed. Some of the undulations were tricky but if you put a good stroke on it you will make putts. I did see a ton of ball marks on the greens that people didn't repair, I would fix about 5 or 6 on each green. The bunkers were nice with ok sand. The layout is great with a lot of interesting holes and a few straight ones which I love. If you're good with your longer clubs or woods and have a decent short game you'll have a solid round. I shot a 43 in the front and was on pace to shooting a 45 in the back. I have broken 90 on this course, but not on other courses (best score was 88).

I very much enjoy this course and will definitely be back. Its a great way to get an afternoon round in.

County Course. $25 Weekday. Was getting stir crazy at the office so I took the initiative and played some golf at Victoria. Gotta say the new lease owners are doing a good job with the facility. It sports a new practice putting green in front, a little spruced up facility and waterless johns that Mayor Villaragosa was practically fawning over in a press conference not too long ago. Will be uploading photos of the course as well.

Gotta say the greenskeeper here is pretty good. They micropunched the greens but you can't really tell (I could only see it really on the 18th hole.) Tee box grass is dormant or looks dormant but it's flat and they do rotate the tees it appears, no major damage to the tee boxes. Fairways here are always thin. At the moment they are bare, loads of dirt, different types of grass, and the ESA has been coming back. Greens are in really good shape though considering. They roll fairly true and are receptive. Pace of play was pretty good at the start, at the turn it turned into some sort of slow, especially after that par 3 over the ravine.

Gotta say the course is in good condition. You may want to check with the starter to be sure they did/didn't punch the greens, I can only say what I saw. Overall a decent place to play, just a word of caution to the wise, please cover or secure all valuables in the car. The park across the street attracts some elements that are opportunistic at best so better to be safe rather than finding your car broken into like what happened to me a year ago.

I played this with my buddy and the conditions of the course were fair. One guy at the pro shop is young, aloof, and unfriendly. Lots of fivesomes on this course and we didn't get to finish all 18 when we started at 12:30PM. Won't be making regular trips to this golf course even though I live only 5 minutes away.

Played Sunday afternoon. Took well over 5 1/2 hours to play. Lots of greens have ball mark spots, tee boxes & rough were hit or miss with lushness, sand traps were pretty good overall. Fairways were also hit and miss, a few nice holes, but some terrible holes. One spot, my friend hit a great drive to the middle of the fairway, he ended up in dirt in the middle of the fairway. Might as well as sliced it into a trap like I did. This place won't make my normal rotation. Lots of slow groups of 5 here as well.

Played first round of year here at saturday noon 1/3/09.As always, decent condition considering cheap green fee . I walked with pull cart mine & I enjoyed walking.

Played twilight on 1/9. Got in 11 holes. I have not played here for four or five years. Victoria is built on a landfill. It historically was difficult for fairway grass to survive. The greens traditionally have been very good though. About a decade ago, L.A. County closed the course for 18 months and Arnold Palmer's company redid the course, putting a cap of clay like soil underneath. I played it quite a bit when it reopened and it looked promising. Unfortunately, the present condition is almost exactly like it was before the redo. There are huge bare spots in the fairways (number 10 was especially bad) and numerous dry places like they are not watering it enough. The greens are very nice, more undulating and faster than when it first reopened. Very disappointing conditions overall. Still like the layout though.

Played Sunday in that British Open-like gust. It wasn't a picnic. Greens were bumpy for Victoria which normall has some pretty good green conditions. A little bumpy but the wind was wreaking havoc with all puts that day. Shots had to be carved into the wind and clubbing up or down was necessary. Case in point hit a 7-iron on hole 2 from 230 out (according to my Golf Buddy GPS). Ball flew right of green but wind pushed it left towards green. It came to a stop past the green. That was some wicked wind there let me tell you. Tee boxes are in good shape. Fairways are OK. Many bare spots. They are trying but a little help may be needed for course fairways to return to splendor of summer. Greens OK just bumpy and with wind they did not roll true. Hard back 9 with wind blowing almost constantly made for difficult round in afternoon. Short par 3 over ravine at only 120 yards to front of green had to use a 6 iron to hit it pin high. Had fun but very challenging conditions.

Greens are aereated. Nice thing though they posted a sign 1 week prior to their service and then another notice that the greens were aereated. Nice work. Told the staff. Their reasoning if the customer knows they won't be so disappointed. And you know something they are right. Played twilight golf and rode. Finished 9 holes relatively quickly. We were just a twosome behind a 5-some. After the nine decided to jump around front 9 and made up some holes. Greens are still bumpy from aereation. They do have some bounce to the roll but not a lot. Greens are very receptive though and an aggressive high shot to the green is really rewarded. Fairways are a bit overwatered. They need to mark the muddy areas and keep folks from riding over the muddy grass; killing it as Kviser said in a post in our forums. Less work on their part beforehand will pay dividends in the future. Rough and waste areas are still trouble but a confident shot out of trouble will be rewarded. Balls tend to roll a lot here so being long could be rewarded as well. Should be OK in a few more weeks.

i played today in the morning. the course played well. the fairways where watered a bit to much. greens are good but spungie on some holes. it still smells a bit. some holes play long though.
