The greens are in terrible shape due to the wrong fertilizer used on them. Two (8 & 9) are closed and temporary greens have been prepared but the temp on 8 should also be closed-it is as bad as the closed green. Several others are in poor shape including the 10th which appears to be about 1/2 under repair. They hope to have all greens repaired by the first of May but have a long way to go.

I played Casta yesterday and the course is poor condition right now. The front nine greens are in bad shape due to seeding. There are makeshift greens on 8 and 9. They gave a $3 discount for the condition. The back nine is in better shape, but still in bad shape. I would only play this course for the $12 rate and wait for the greens to come back before paying anything more.

I learned to play on this course, and I still play here about twice a month, It's the best value in the area. The fairways have a few dead spots, but it never interferes with play. The greens are very well maintained, and can be pretty tricky to read depending on the placement of the pins, but people never seem to repair their ball marks, which is unfortunate. There's a pretty good variety of holes, with a few really long uphill par 3's that will challenge even the low cappers among us. You will use all of your clubs at least once on this course. Pace of play is pretty inconsistent, on a good day you can finish 18 in about 3-3.5 but on an overbooked day it can take over 5 hours. This is mainly due to the staff booking tee times too close together. The starter said it's an American Golf policy, so they really don't have any control over it. On the weekends they fire up a grill and cook some really good hot dogs and burgers for decent prices, and the restaurant in the clubhouse has surprisingly good food too. There's also a cozy little bar to relax with a cold one after your round. All in all this is definitely one of my favorite courses. Forgiving enough for beginners, but nuanced enough for those with more experience. This is a course you can really grow into, I definitely recommend it to anyone interested in a great day of golf!!

I played today on a Golfnow.com rate of $12.00 with a 12:38 PM tee time. I ended up playing with one of the employees who normally works a the pro shop. (Tim) and two other guys, both in their late twenties. We got off on time and didn't run into any delays or hold-ups throughout the round. The course is in pretty decent shape for an American Golf property. There are a few bare spots on the fairways but nothing drastic. They have a new greenskeeper (Frank) who does as good a job as possible to keep the course in playable condition. I played here on Saturday and noticed that they hadn't moved the pin placements but the greens were in good shape all things considered. Taking into consideration the green fees, the course conditions, and all, it was WELL worth the value to play here! The great thing(s) about this course is that you can use every club in your bag (at least once), it does have a few hazards to contend with, water coming into play on several holes, the greens can give you fits unless you play here regularly, and the course is fairly well maintained for the price you pay to use it. Personally, I think this course is overlooked by too many of us.

Went out Saturday at 2:00 after being told no problems course has many openings. Course was jammed. Took an hour to play 2 holes,at least 3 forsomes waiting from hole # 2 forward. Spoke with the marshall about the backup who shook her head and drove out to see what the delay was. We did not see her again. Our group went back to the clubhouse to see about a replay due to the back ups. I doubt we would have gotten more than 5 or 6 holes in. After some phone calls the starter gave us a rain check to play at a later date. I thought this was very fair.

The course has been slipping across the summer. It seems as if there are more drainage issues every time we come to play. We do play because of the inexpensive greens fees.

The starter is NOT the most charming of fellows and is slow and deliberate in his demeanor. For an American Golf Corp. course, it's one of the better one's in Orange County. The fairways are pretty much wide open, and the traps well placed along the course. Water doesn't come into play much, but there are a few draining ditches that can make play "interesting." The greens are tricky and not an easy read. The course looks to be drying out a bit and could stand more water then it's getting. Ball divots on the greens were too often poorly repaired, or not even touched. (I blame this on the players more than the course managers!!) We teed off at about 11 AM and didn't have any problems with groups ahead or behind us. Zero wait on any tee box until the 17th hole. This is still a fun course to play and I will be back. I just hope that American gets the course in a little better shape.

Only problem I had was that it was crowded, backed up on every single hole... got to the point that the people behind me and in front of me agreed upon hitting into eachother to hury up the course... needless to say, I'm pretty agile.
