All I can say is that I am amazed at the difference in course conditions, particularly the fairways from even a week ago.

This place has been a mosh/slosh pit with rivers crossing fairways since January. Two friends played here last Monday in the rain, and they said it was still sloppy. I've played here three times this year prior to today, and each time it was extremely wet and sloppy. I last played here 3 weeks ago.

Today, completely different. Based on the overall course firmness, you'd swear it was July.

Fairways were cut very nicely, about 3/4 inch, and they were very firm, perhaps even 'hardpan' in many fairway areas. Got lots of roll off the tee ball, which I appreciated being a short-hitter. My normal 185-200 yard drives were 200-225+ today. Others in the group were hitting it even longer than their normal drives. Approach shots that landed short of the greens, bounced high and then again and rolled up to/on/or over the greens. Damage from the rains and cart usage remains and a number of rough patches (bare, uneven grass) exist. Hopefully they will repair the dry ruts running across some of the fairways. But, overall, these are pretty good now all things considered. 5/10

Greens were firm, somewhat receptive, but balls did not 'hit-n-stick' very often. Putting was a challenge, medium-fast to fast, but if you caught a slope, you could be 12 feet or more past the hole. Mostly smooth and in good shape. 7/10

Tee boxes were mostly great, very lush, green and level, with maybe two exceptions. 8/10

Sand was decent, a little brown fluff over a very firm base on two I was in. 5/10

Cart girl came by once. Saw a marshal a few times. Andrew in the pro shop gave us a friendly greeting.

I had a chance to play Costa Mesa Country Club (Los Lagos) on monday with Corey McCartney at a great price of $29 with cart. We jumped on the 2pm tee time and hoped to get through 12 or so by dark. With all the rain the course was green and long but had lots of mud and standing water. You had to drive down the sides of the rough and fairways were fenced off. There was a ton of damage to trees and the driving range due to high winds. I must say for the less then ideal playing conditions, pace of play was great as we picked up in the dark on 18, almost making it through a full round. Fairways were left long due to mud and not being able to mow. It was a challenge to get distance after landing as the ball did not roll well and occasionally plugged in the soft fairways. Greens were gorgeous but soft and slow. Tee boxes for the most part were great and lush. It is amazing seeing of local courses so green but they need to dry out a bit. All in all great price and great day if you don't mind a little mud on your shoes. This spring should be awesome when the rain goes away!

After playing here twice in sloppy conditions in mid/late January wanted to check progress of the course conditions. Played here with a friend as a 2some on Monday, Feb 13th, catching the first 'twilight' rates at 12:30pm. POP was a shocking 2 hours on the front, as the next group was 3 holes in front when we started. Eventually caught up to them, as we took our time, as the 4some behind us was 1-2 holes backfrom the get-go. We finished in 4 hours 20 minutes, waiting quite a bit on the back nine. Tees were no doubt the best part of the day. Lush and green, mostly very level and soft, but not wet. 7/10 Fairways were another story. Still some wet ditches running perpendicular to the first, second, 5th, 6th, 10th, 13th fairways, with varying degree of damage from carts driving through. Many fairways were still moist in spots/slight casual water. As per Weber's recent review of the Mesa Linda course here, probably 50% + of each of the fairways have not been cut in some time, due to the rain/damp conditions that persist. Lift/clean/replace was a must, as every ball had chunks of mud on them after landing in these 'roughways'. Glad they finally decided to minimize the damage that the tractors were imparting on the course, but this of course diminished any chance of roll on a number of holes. Some fairways were wholly or partially roped off, meaning carts were driven in well-worn areas in the by now muddy and ruddy rough. While the fairways are drier than a few weeks ago, they are worse overall in terms of playing conditions. 1/10 Rough was muddy, damaged by heavy cart path, much of it running alongside the fairways would be considered 'GUR'. Around the greens, not too bad. 3/10 Greens were OK, but damp and bumpy, rolling medium throughout the round, holding the lines pretty well, and receptive to incoming golf shots. 5/10 Was in two bunkers, and they were OK, didn't see any standing water, sand was a layer of medium-weight sand (not fluffy) over a firm base. 5/10 Saw the cart lady drive right by us from behind on the 2nd hole, without asking if we wanted something. Never to be seen again. Marshall was around a few times, then saw him camped out fishing out golf balls from the pond on the 7th hole. I need that job! With rain in the forecast later in the week, I don't think it is wise to play here for another 3 weeks or so, imho, unless we get a solid 8-10 days of sun/warm weather.

Sunday was Summer-like weather less than a week after very cool and wet stuff … bizarre. Anyway, decided to play CM/Los Logos with some buds for $48 walking. The course has many muddy areas which have mostly dried out and many of those areas have deep tire ruts from careless cart drivers … amazing that these guys cannot see the mud pit in front of them and run right through it. Now, the crew needs to ‘flatten’ the turf and give it a mow, then all will be fine with the fairways and rough ... at least until the next rainstorm. The greens, however, have other issues … they’re hard as linoleum. Well struck approach shots bounced like trampolines, seriously. Hard to find your ball mark, and when you did and then go to fix it you can barely get your repair tool into the turf, no kidding. Made chipping difficult, too, as many balls would just bound forward. Putting was okay: fast but at least it was semi-predictable. Could be early aeration here if future rain cannot remedy the problem. Expectedly, real slow PoP today with an 11:30 tee time, slow front – fast back, got around in 5 hours. Bunkers were a bit unkempt with footprints and debris. Rough was deep as the maintenance crew seemed to be waiting for the course to dry out before mowing those areas and I'm sure that contributed to the slow play. They are going to be busy this week, for sure, as there’s a lot of work that needs to be done to get this muni back into shape. I'm going to pass on rating the course until the crew can get out there. Otherwise, I'd rate it like leef2020, real low.

Played the front 9 of Los Lagos today, 1/26/17 and last Wednesday. We had quite the downpour on Sunday in between rounds. Given that about 4 of the front 9 fairways last week had standing water across the fairways, with severe cart damage running through them, was very surprised to to see more cart damage running up/down all of the fairways to some degree.

Today, at least, they had the fairways roped off to powered carts - not sure when they put them up, but it must have been recent, and not immediately after the last rain. So, rough only with the power carts, so lots of damage there, too.

The starter told me that in addition to losing 4 poles holding up one of the sides of the netting on the driving range (mats only now - no grass range for a few weeks, he said), they've lost about 35 trees around the course due to winds/soft soil. If you've ever had to deal with the tree just left of the green on #1, it will bother you no more. Saw about 10 others on the day, but wasn't really looking for them - I was too busy trying to find a dry path walking through the fairways.

Other than the areas of poor drainage running perpendicular through the fairways, the majority of each were dry enough to not splatter yourself at ball impact. My shoes, however, are drying off now - glad they are 'waterproof'!

Tees were actually very good, cut close enough and very green. A little soft footing, but not at all muddy. Greens were actually very good and smooth - a bit firmer and less spike indentations than last week. Still all very soft compared to normal, of course. I did notice that they have punched the first green only since last week - I think it is one of the softer greens normally.

Teed off at 3:45pm and had the front 9 mostly to myself, no waiting and no one pushing me. As I finished just at sunset, about 5:15, with no one in view on the last 2-3 holes, must've been the last one out today.

A bit more exercise than a stroll at the beach, a good day out on a cool, sunny afternoon. Though I'll probably play here again on Monday with some golf buddies, would expect this course to need a good 7-10 days of sun/no rain (like most of the flatter courses) to be back in pretty nice shape in the fairways and rough.

Like Brookside two days before, CM had many of the same SoCal muni characteristics. Good greens with some divot damage (and running about a foot slower than Brookside) but still consistent. Fairways were overall quite good with a few patches of bare kikuyu. Rough was much the same as the fairways, just an inch longer. Tee markers were set wide on the gigantic tee boxes giving PLENTY of area to tee up. They were charging their holiday rates all week ($47 to walk) which is more than I'd really want to pay but still not bad for what you're getting (Also, Orange County... grumble). It's in better shape than Mile Square Players right now so it's likely the best muni option in the immediate area. POP was just over 4 hours that early in the morning and the bev cart came around a few times.

First, kudos to the course for locking the carts in the barn and only letting walkers play today. If they let golf carts out today, with all the mud and slop on the course, one a-hole could have done so much damage that it would have taken months to fix.

Second, (and I'll be brief), if you book your time on GolfNow you will not tee off before your scheduled tee time, even if there is nobody within fifty miles of the golf course. The starter ran some stuff about "time stamps" and invisible people with tee times before ours, but the real poop is ... you may go out an hour AFTER your tee time, but you ain't going out one minute before. (EXCUSE ME, STEWARDESS, I SPEAK STARTER).

As for the course, it was very good considering all the rain.The tee boxes were swell, and I love the fact that they put the markers far apart to accommodate various shot shapes and minimize divot damage on par threes. Fairways had significant standing water, which is understandable after all the rain. And the bunkers were wet, but playable. The greens were tricky, as some ran almost normal speed and some were very slow. Pace of play was really fast, and we finished all 18 holes teeing off at exactly 1:15. The girls in the coffee shop and bar are tops. All in all, it's a nice golf environment and reasonably priced for the OC.

Played Lagos as a twosome at 12:30pm. Course was wide open, never waiting the whole day and no one pushing us, either. Finished in 3hrs 40mins.

Played Lagos as a twosome at 12:30pm. Course was wide open, never waiting the whole day and no one pushing us, either. Finished in 3hrs 40mins.

Tee boxes were mostly good, ample grass, with just a few that had some uneven areas.

Fairways rolled pretty well, even though they are not cut that tightly. Ended up in a number or bare spots, however, particularly on the front 9 fairways. Caught a few bad lies in divots, as well. Not a lucky day on that front.

Rough wasn't too long. Mainly the hard pan was near cart traffic and a few traps.

Sand in the traps was good and soft.

Greens were pretty soft, mostly smooth, rolled true, were medium speed today.

Saw the cart girl only once on hole #4 and the snack shop was closed when we came through 9 about 2:00pm.

Fairways could use some extra attention at this point, otherwise pretty standard condition for this course.

We started out on Saturday the 26th on the range hitting off the mat's. The mats are worn out at best with the rest of the range in good condition. Costa Mesa does offer grass on the range with a slight charge. We tee'd off at 9:30 as a twosome it seems the other twosome booked did not show. We had to wait on the par 3's and the pace was a bit slow. We did manage to finish before the rain with just a few drops before walking off in a good rain. Most of the greens were soft and a little bumpy. Still nice for a course with so much play. The fairways were ok, with some areas of mud and also dry dead spots. The rough is not to long and there are some dirt spots. I do like the layout of this course and will play again.
