The course is a 3180 yard par 59. I don't play executive courses regularly but I decided to give this one a try because I have never played it before. The greens were in good shape with the rest of the course being fair. Holes 3 thru 8 require you to walk across the street like normal pedestrian would. It was kind of weird with golf bag in hand. The course has quite a few elevation changes giving it a nice feel to it that is not flat and boring. Holes 10 and 18 are very challenging par 3's much tougher to par than the other 16 holes. I won't play it again just because I would rather spend my money on a regulation course. I played with 2 balls, one yellow, and one white. The yellow ball won by 3 shots.

Played 18 on Saturday 7/3/2010, it took 4 hrs and 20 minutes. Every tee mat had a selection of rubber tees (three different heights) stringed together, most with a set of tees for both lefties and righties. Many young golfers out yesterday. My 19 year old daughter played her first round, this was the ideal course for that first round. The only obstacles that came into play were the nets, especially on #4, I prefer the elevated tee box from years ago.
Positives = Cheap and easy, yet fun. Good exercise (walk only). Mats are helpful for novice players. Close to home. Nice ocean breeze yesterday.
Negs = Slow play. Several really short holes. The mats. Cash only for green fees.

Played here on Thursday, 4 p.m. Yes, it kind of sucks to hit off mats. But, I don't mind it at all. No divots! What wasn't cool was that it took 4 hours to play a short executive course! We waited forever on each hole. Everyone playing this course should speed up. Your'e not Tiger Woods! Also, the greens were very bumpy, divot marks everywhere, and not repaired. Overall though, it's a fun, easy course. Some of the par 4's you can drive it you hit a good drive which is fun. The back nine is longer, with a lake, and more enjoyable. The rough is challenging in that you can chunk it and leave it short, or hit it too hard and be long. I would definitely play here again because the price is reasonable. But hope the play is quicker next time.

For the price of a large bucket of range balls($12 in my case), I got to play 18 today!! This was my first experience with NB Golf Course. They get a good amount of traffic with a large contingent of woman golfers on the course along side the guys. (Not a bad thing, just an observation.) It's a "short course" at 3180 yards, but the amount of golfers who use the course makes for some pretty slow rounds. My round took four hours and I left feeling that it shouldn't have taken more than three, but we were backed up. This is a pretty straight forward layout with no real obstacles to get in the way outside of a couple of nets along the tees that are a bit of a distraction. I felt they could have easily moved the nets back another 20 yards, or more, away from the tees. Speaking of tees, the course has mats to hit off of, instead of turf tee boxes, so if nothing else, the tee boxes ARE consistent! =0) If you use mats at the driving range, no big deal. It could be a bit of an adjustment if you don't. The real surprise for me were the greens. I was totally unprepared for how fast they rolled. =0~ It took nine holes for me to figure out the speed. Once I got the speed under control, easy peezy! The fairways and rough were in better shape than I expected. I was a bit surprised to find numerous unrepaired ball divots on the greens. Someone should hand out divot repair tools, and instructions for their use, at the first tee at this course! I probably fixed three times the number I made, and there were plenty more that needed attention. I would recommend the course primarily for the novice golfer. Those of you with the low handicaps will probably not enjoy the lack of challange (or the slow play.)

Teeing off the mat was weird at first, but I got over it by the 3rd hole. Overall it's a nice little course for the money. Greens are in nice shape. Back 9 was definately more enjoyable than the front 9 with more par 4's. Don't forget it's cash only.

Notes: Has 6 Par 4s, but majority are on the back 9 which is more popular. Not too busy on a Saturday when stopped by, but post 1 p.m. on a Monday had some 1-2 group backups.

Comments: Played full 18th holes at $17, less than a buck a hole. With a bucket at the range to warm up my hit was about $21 for a 3 hour round. Reviews sow this as a quick executive course so I thought it would be mostly par 3s, but there are actually 6 par 4s that are long and straight. THe back 9 is the preferred if you're looking to play only 9 holes since it has four par 4s as well as a little lake surrounding two holes. Front 9 is mostly short Par 3s but are fine for new players of those looking to work short game into play.


Grass was fair overall, some brown areas but nothing overtly dead or bare. You end up crossing the street four times meandering between the three sections that comprise the course. There are several tight holes where you have to watch out hitting into the streets at the tees.


Downsides are that you tee off from mats and some weird backups of groups encountered when I thought it would be clear on a Monday afternoon. Driving range is plentiful though kind of tight and really lacking in high rubber tees. I actually had to use my own rubber tees of the mats during the game which I ended up forgetting on one of them.


Still for the price I prefer this executive course compared to the other one in Lake Forest.

Overall: Good for the price if you're looking for a low-challenging course to work short game on. Located next to John Wayne Airport so good for those working nearby offices looking for a quick game after work since it's lighted.

This course is in awful condition, but I guess you can't expect too much for the price. Teeing off from mats is just wrong. The greens were very shaggy and bumpy and rolled very slow. Staff at the course were nice and the course does have a fun feeling to it. I saw one guy on the course pulling a cooler behind him, which was suprising. For short courses, I would rather go to lake forest or Rec 9 in Long Beach.

If you can get over the mats for tee boxes, it's not bad.
