Admiral Baker North has now reopened and it's public!

They refurbished the course with new bent grass greens and an overall cleanup. I was warned that the greens were slow, but I found them to be faster than most and definitely fast down hill. The greens were still hard and tough to hold, but I really like the bent greens and expect that they will speed up this summer.

I also like the manicured grass around the greens that can either allow putting or pitching. Both worked very well. And they had cut the rough to a consistent playable level.

Also, the bunkers were packed and with a soft sand surface! A class act.

I think that Admiral Baker North will be a great addition to quality public course convenient to downtown San Diego.

Played ADM Baker North last Friday. The only thing that brings me back here -- and infrequently at that -- is the price and the fact that someone else made the tee time! The fairways are terrible! The greens are OK at best -- fair condition, soft, but bumpy and unpredictable speed. No score card on the cart. No score card or pencils on Tee 2. Golfer warning system on blind Tee 11 not working (BTW, I've never seen in working!). This course has some interesting challenges for the average golfer, but for my money, it's not worth the effort.

Played 8/2 with two tee times (at) 0607 and 0614, played the first tee time with a 3-some and we finished just over 3 1/2 and the second tee time was a 4-some and they finished just over 4 hours. The... Continue »

Played 8/2 with two tee times (at) 0607 and 0614, played the first tee time with a 3-some and we finished just over 3 1/2 and the second tee time was a 4-some and they finished just over 4 hours. The course is in great shape until the approach on 6 which is under repair, also fairways 12, 13 and 15, but amazingly these areas weren't marked as ground under repair. Some tee boxes are crowned, so check the out as you stand at the cart and from behind looking down the fairway. The greens are in excellent shape but have pock marks from people setting the flag down and letting it drop to the green. The layout is challenging and will frustrate even the best of players on some of the holes. One of the best deals (at) $47 for civilians and $33 for retired military! Professional and courteous staff, playing either side at this facility is an excellent way to spend a day golfing.

Once the water drained off the greens at about 2 o'clock, I found them to be in very good shape. The rest of the course is lush but inconsistent. You will find many bare spots with lush spots in the immediate vicinity in the rough. There is OB and hazards to watch out for but this is a course for everybody. Even a high handicapper will find it playable. Holes 11 and 12 are both dog-leg-lefts and are the tough holes on this course.

Played 12/14, 0752 tee time. Course was in great shape, but too many areas GUR with some obvious spots not marked. Pace was excellent, finished in 4hr 4 minutes. Drainage problems have been fixed and the course is greening up nicely. Enough challenge for all levels of play. At $42 for guests, one of the better courses for the green fee!

My home course is "The Links At Outlook" located in South Berwick, Maine. It is a links style course, hence the name. The front nine is pretty wide open, and the back nine is where the challenge comes into play. It tends to be a lot more narrow and very hilly, with a couple of blind t-shots. It is a very well kept course and they do a very good job there. It is definitely one of my favorite courses to play. If you are ever in the Southern Maine area give the links a try.

Played 4-12-08 on a very warm day. The first 7 fairways are in very good condition, after that it gets a little spotty, with some burnt out and GUR areas, not that bad though. The greens are slowish and a little bumpy but rolled fine for the most part. The layout here is excellent, with a good variety of holes, with the par 3's all being very difficult. I am a reasonably long hitter and I hit 4 iron, 4 iron, 3 iron and 3-wood to them, #17 is as hard a par 3 as you will find. #18 is a very tough, but enjoyable par 5 finishing hole. The staff were great, and the clubhouse here is a perfect place to enjoy a cold drink after a round. It was $32 to walk as a guest on a weekend, 60 range balls for $3. Will be back.

Very friendly and courteous staff help make this course an enjoyable place to play. Green fees are reasonable and the course is challenging, especially for a guy like me who is just resuming the game after a 15+ year layoff. Hopefully the fairways will fill in a little more with the warm weather coming. The greens are in pretty good shape, just wish players would repair ball marks on them. No homes along the fairways that are hitable from the tees and that keeps me coming back everychance I get.

Played 11/21 @ 7:30. Course was in decent shape. Greens were a lttle better than normal. They are over seeding the fairways though. Its worth the $27 I payed to walk. I love the layout!
