Played a quick 18 today. Course drained great despite rain received over night and the past few days. Fairways has some small weeds growing in some places but they didn't effect play and it appeared a group of groundskeepers were pulling them to get them into shape for the Spring. Greens were smooth and still fast considering the amount of water on them. Course was in better shape today than most courses here during prime season. Still my favorite course in San Diego and a great deal.

I took two out of town golf buddies to Barona two weeks ago after hearing good things about this course. We were able to get a very good green-fee rate by (i) taking advantage of twilight which starts at 11am; and (ii) getting 'Players Club' cards from the associated casino (took <10min).

We enjoyed a very good golf course in fine condition, and I would not hesitate to go back again in the future.

Barona Creek is, in my opinion, the best overall golf course in San Diego County. Starting with the challenging, yet enjoyable, course design.

Today's experience was no exception. It's like playing a top tier resort course in Palm Springs or Hawaii.

The greens are perfect. They are fast and true, but hold shots extremely well.

The bunkers are also as good as you can get on a public course. They are packed with a light sand surface and the ball jumps out nicely, even with my bad sand game.

The attention to maintenance detail is apparent and appreciated. And the staff and maintenance crews actually show respect and concern about the players enjoyment. Without exception, they are attentive, polite and friendly. And there are no negative signs or rules distracting from the experience.

As a foursome, we finished over a half hour ahead of the recommended pace, in around four hours.

Played twilight today behind a few fivesomes. Apparently in a group outing. Still played in 4 1/2 hours. The greens were very fast and tough to avoid three putts, bumping our scores up a few strokes. It was windy and cold for the last few holes, making it a challenge, but playable. Best course design, conditioning and staff around.

Played mid-afternoon on Wednesday, 11/2/11, on a breezy sunny day, tagging along with the zachary-weber2323 GK match. This is another course I'd like to pick up and move closer to Orange County - great conditioning, reasonable prices, very challenging. Going back and forth between Barona Creek and Oak Valley could really improve your game!

Course presentation is very attractive with holes spread across a broad creek valley, framed by native vegetation, large oak trees, and dry creeks. Conditions throughout were primo - fairways were dry, tight, and always produced good lies. Hole 5 was CPO. Greens were firm and fast - there were some minor variations between greens on receptivity to shots. Many greens had significant slopes, and dry firm conditions made for defensive putting, especially from above the hole. I was in the sand a lot and it was uniformly good - grainy, heavy, damp but not wet, not too deep. The rough lining the holes was fairly short and benign, but then you got out into native grasses (marked ESH), dry creeks, and rocky desert, with uncertain lies and potential for snakes(!). Tee boxes were uniformly level, good grass and lies, but markers were set up fairly narrow.

Friendly greeting and free range balls. Very nice facilities. Saw the cart girl a couple times on the front nine. Didn't see a ranger, but course was not crowded and we never really waited more than a couple minutes on any hole. Located well off the beaten path - you don't just happen by this place, you have to want to go there. The only way in is a narrow winding 2-lane highway that definitely needs improvement. Highly recommended.

Played my match with weber2323 and dconnally joined us. Course is great fun and in fantastic shape. Greens fast and smooth but very firm. Hard to hold some shots, but my 4 irons usually dont hold anyway. The rough was not bad and the sand was nice. Beverage cart around a couple of times before she retired for the day. I had not been out here in a long time and I can say I will be going back sooner than later. Well worth the 64 dollar green fee we paid. Congrats to Weber for a great match. Just toyed with me on the front nine and then put me away with ease 3 and 2. Good luck moving forward Weber, always a great time playing with you.

Played yesterday under cloudy, cool conditions breaking away to hazy sunshine and basically a perfect day to be out on the links. Its a long drive but what a course! Everything about Barona is really nice. ProShop guy was super cool and checked us in with a great rate. He didn't have to do that but bent over backwards for us. Golf course is exceptional right now. Tees, fairways, bunkers are perfect. And the greens are just amazing. Hard, smooth and very fast. Best greens I've putted on in quite a while. Love the mix and flavor of holes, nothing too tricked out. Played here many years ago when it first opened and wondered why it took so long to come back. I'll be coming back more often. It's a pleasure to pay for a golf course whose conditions and greens are exceptional and where the people there make your day on the links a fantastic experience. Oh, cart girl came around 3-4 times, perfect.
