Played on Friday, 7/20, with John_T. 6:58 tee time for $30 with OB card.

Course is in great condition for the summer time. No complaints on tee, fairway (almost full coverage, except some thin spots on #2), and rough. Bunkers have improved over the last year. Greens were GREAT! Almost fast, receptive to shots (not firm), but some unrepaired ball marks.

Only complaint was Pace of Play. Joined on the 1st tee by a local. Played behind a 4some which became a 3 after 9 when 1 broke away. Probably because 2 of them were playing from the blacks and having some difficulty. Finished almost right at 4 hours, but we waited ALOT.

Course looked to be in better shape than Palm if deciding between the 2.

Played Friday, 6/22, as the opening 18 to a 36 hole day for John_T's birthday. Teed off about 6:30, joined by a local single, and played in about 3:30. Paid about $26 with a discount offer and the OB card.

Course is showing a bit of stress from the heat after looking great a few weeks ago. Fairways are still in good shape, minus the 2nd, which is thin with obvious turf replacement going in. Rough is getting longer, with a chance of losing a ball if you don't watch where it goes in. Bunkers looked the same, improving them from months ago. Greens are still fast, but some are starting to have some wear areas, causing a bumpy route.

Home course. I love playing it.

Played on Friday, 6/8, with a 6:30ish tee time, $35 with OB card. Checked in early and was told we could get out if we were ready. Right to the 1st tee as a 2, following a 2, played through a 4some on 11 and finished in about 3:30. Gorgeous Vegas day and done before the heat.

1st time on Mountain in 3 months, and it was in incredible shape. Course is ready for their annual pro/scratch tourney in a month. Tee boxes were the best I've seen, only complaint was how the stones were set, many pointing away from the hole. Fairways were lush with little amount of thin areas. Rough has been grown out, need to watch where you go in because if it's sitting down, you may not find it, and some trouble getting out. Bunkers were decent, not hard packed. Greens were in great shape, recovering from their recent punching, and running FAST.

Mountain was in that "late October Early November" type of shape. Worth the trip before the heat causes problems.

Played on 3/9 with the 2nd group out. Free birthday round with the OB card but would of been $42. Even with the sunrise tee time, the range was up and running under the lights. 1st group was a group of employees and we were paired with 2 other employees, who did not seem enthused of the pairing. We graciously told them if the 1st group lets them go ahead, we'll casually trail behind. Never saw the 2 again and the 4some pulled ahead too, absolute morning rabbits. We finished at 3:20 feeling we took our time and enjoyed. 3some behind us was over a hole behind.


Course was in good conditions. Tee boxes were pretty good. We played the blues and they moved them back from their normal areas to grow in the regular areas. Fairways were running firm, with great grass coverage, except for 100y out on #2, which was destroyed by the coots. Rough was cut just a few above the fairways, but thicker around the greens. Greens were in great shape, firm, very little ball marks, and fast, almost scary with the slopes. Bunkers were the worst part, hard packed, pebbles, and hard to hit out of.

Still my go to based on price and conditions with the OB card.

Snuck out for 2 twilight rounds on 12/14 (Thursday) and 12/15 (Friday), paying $27 both days. I was a little worried about chasing daylight with tee times just after Noon on both days, but finished in 4 hours on Thursday, and about 4:20 on a stacked Friday, joining the group ahead us on the 18th tee so we could putt out in the dark.

Conditions are officially winter-like. Tees are a little beat up. Fairways are thinning with brown areas popping up. Rough is manageable, but long and thick in some areas. Bunkers are hard-packed and heavy. Greens are fast, but a bit bumpy in the afternoon and plenty of unfixed ball marks.

I've seen AP better, but it's still very playable. I could not beat the price for twilight.

I like the course design , I'd call it vacationers golf. wide open fairways , the pins were accessible and the course was well maintained for the most part. The greens were ,,,, inconsistent is the word I would use.some were definitely faster than others but the overall experience was nice. We played behind a group that rented their clubs from the course and I was expecting a long day. The design of the course I think helps with the speed of play.

Visiting family for Thanksgiving this week, and I managed to sneak away for a round this morning on the Mountain course at Angel Park. I teed off a few minutes ahead of the 7:30 am tee time I had made, and got around with 2 other singles in right about 4 hours, never waiting on the group in front and never being pushed by the single behind us. I liked the layout a lot, with a good mix of long and short holes that fit my game playing from the blue tees. Conditions seemed a bit mixed though, greens rolled pretty good, although I saw way too many unrepaired pitch marks. They were firm, and on the quick side to me, with a decent amount of break. Fairways were ok, rough was good, and the one fairway bunker I found wasn't difficult to play from. I feel that the tee boxes however were very bad, most of them were very patchy, and never anything you could call lush. Customer service in the shop was very good, and the starter was very nice as well. I paid the rack rate, and while I could see how at times it might be worth that, I feel the conditions just weren't quite there for that price. I certainly don't regret playing there, but I would imagine one could do just a little bit better.

Back out on AP's Mountain course on Friday, 10/20, with an 8am tee time. Course has been out of re-seeding for about month and off Cart Path Only. Paid $45 with the OB Sports Card. The new grass has come in great, except for a few spots scattered across the 18 holes. Nothing major, some some thin or muddy areas, no bigger than 10x10 on a few holes. Rough was about 1-2 inches, just enough to give you a bit of a fit to hit out. It appears they did some bunker work too, as the sand was a nice consistency, better than the pebble hard packed from a few months ago. Greens were in great shape, medium fast, but some unrepaired ball marks. Customer service was awesome. They had a large tournament set to go off on Palm at 8 and all the staff was hustling to make sure everyone was taken care of. Outside staff was great setting us up and getting us out. Pro shop was quick with the checkins and the bar/grill area was busy but no problems getting some pre-round refreshments. They had another group set-up to go out as we were finishing. Extremely busy day with no problems for the non-tourney players. Starter got us out a bit early as a 2 but we joined up with the 2 behind us on 4 since we were all waiting. Finished right at 4 hours with the group ahead pulling away from us on the back. Another great day of golf in Vegas.

I had already booked a pre-paid deal on the Palm Course at 11:57, but I finished at Highland Falls earlier than expected. I was planning to play Mountain after I finished Palm, but the guy in the pro shop was really great and worked with me to get the most efficient 36 in at Angel Park. He recommended I play Mountain first than then I could tee off on Palm whenever I was ready later. He charged the mid-morning rate of $45. I played through a few groups along the way, but it was fairly wide open on Mountain and I finished in about 2 hours, 20 minutes. Conditions were pretty good for mid-summer. I guess Mountain is different from Palm because they keep the rye grass (or is it actually all poa?) through the summer rather than transitioning to bermuda. That gives Mountain a deeper green overall look, but perhaps somewhat spottier coverage this time of year. The tee boxes were nice. The fairways were good for the most part, with some thin/brown areas scattered throughout. The rough was pretty similar in terms of coverage. The greens were very soft and rolling at medium speeds. Speaking of greens, they were doing some maintenance on the par-3 11th green, so about half of the green is roped off as GUR to make it an extra-small target hole for the time being. I wanted to come back and play all of Mountain because I was only able to play the front nine a few years ago. It's been eating at me ever since! I enjoyed the front nine then and the back nine continues the trend. To me, Mountain feels like a less-dramatic Badlands or TPC Las Vegas. Same basic setting/terrain as those neighbor courses, but a more toned-down design (which isn't a bad thing). Very enjoyable course with a numerous memorable holes. I personally like Mountain over Palm now that I've played them both.
