Played on Sunday, 4/22, with an morning tee time. Joined by GKer JohnT and a local couple, all of us used a recent Groupon deal for $35. When I called for a tee time, I was told in advance that the greens were punched 2 weeks ago and the tees were being punched this week. Love getting the info upfront, was even asked if it was OK and did I still want to play this week.
Service employees were kept at a minimum. Check in with shop, who gave you a key to a cart and range tokens. There's a starter and drink girl. All were good and cheerful. Range is mats only, and short. I think they use the shorter flying range balls (or I hope they do anyways). Practice green was consistent with the course (slow/medium).
Greens were still pretty sanded, but looked good. They were medium/slow, but should be nice when they heal. Fairway and rough were in great condition. No bare spots. Sand looked baked on top, but was actually fluffy. I think the recent heat caused a thin crust on top, but did not effect the shots out. Tee boxes were as expected, for getting punched this week. Thin in lots of places (#9 was the worst), with some mud thrown in.
Palm Valley is 1 of 3 courses in the Sun City Summerlin community. Houses lined it, but most out of play (ahem, most, unless you have a case of the rights). Fairways are wide in the landing areas. There's a nice variety of hole lengths, I don't think there's 2 similar ones either 9, so a great chance to use most of your clubs. The biggest thing I saw was you have to trust the distance (either from markers, GPS, laser, whatever). Lots of optical illusions, Front 9 looked shorter than the readings (read 150, looked 100), while the back seemed longer. There were no 150 yd poles in the fairway, you need to look for 2 small palm trees placed on both sides of the fairway. I thought that was pretty cool, but sprinklers, cart path, and fairway plaques. All together, a pretty nice course, especially with the special pricing.

Very nice course with very challenging, fast greens. The course itself was in great condition, pace of play was excellent, scenery was gorgeous, and the people there were friendly. Couldn't really ask for a better experience... well, unless my game was a little better! (First time I've been able to play in about half a year, and the rust showed...) The only quibble -- and I would imagine this happens a lot at the desert courses -- is that some of the sand in the bunkers was a little on the hard side. But the course had a good layout, the fairways and greens were in good shape, and it's not as expensive as some of the other area courses. I'd give it a solid 8/10 and would gladly play here again.

I played this course May 23 with a group of 20 people. The staff was great, friendly, helpful, and seemed truly happy to work there. The course was in great shape. My review doesnt do it justice because I was honest about a few bare spots. but in all fairness, they were areas of ground under repair and in most cases, appeared to be in work to rid the bare spot. Greens held, putts rolled true, rough was "tough" but not US Open tough. Thoroughly enjoyed it and our entire group agreed we would be coming back.

Played in the late afternoon on Wednesday, 10/15/08, on a warm sunny day with no wind. Resort-style course in a retirement community without significant elevation changes or severe doglegs. Generally good conditions with soft receptive greens that rolled OK with medium speed - some had evidence of sanding on them, a couple had areas repaired with turf transplants. Scattered areas on tees, fairways, and rough were soft and wet or had not been cut. Grass in swales around greens could be fluffy and deep. Rough short and not really penal. Sand OK. Good for a relaxed round - course was almost deserted and I played alone and finished in <3 hours.

Played 8/2 on a beautiful sunny afternoon. The course meanders through houses but has wide landing areas. The rough at this time is very deep and we had a hard time finding balls that didn't find the fairways. The fairways do have some dry spots but not too severe for this time of year. The greens are smooth and true and receive balls with open arms. A real nice place to play.

Course has good layout although some of the par 4's repeat each other. Par 3's are challenging and well designed. Customer service is great no problems and rate for local afternoon round on a sunday was great paid $25 with cart!!

Played in the late afternoon on Thursday, 10/4/07, on a warm, sunny windy day. Course was deserted so we flew around, getting in 15 holes in 2.5 hr before it got too dark to see. Course came out of overseeding 2 weeks ago and is in great shape, with receptive, fast greens, fairways in good shape and firm, good sand quality in bunkers. Not a lot of elevation change or weird holes – everything is right in front of you. Back nine more interesting than the front. No cart girl this late. Enjoyable for good conditioning (especially now when most other courses are in maintenance) and brisk pace. Note: this course is in Sun City, so morning rounds with local residents may be more crowded or not move as well. Recommended.
