Driving Range is pretty standard, off mats to target greens. Practice putting green is nice and large. There is a smaller practice green that actually allows for chipping adjacent to the first hole. Not a large area by any means, but glad they had it.

The tee boxes were mostly level and green. No bare spots or heavy play. The fairways were beautiful, lush, and tight, allowing plenty of roll. Fairways were a little moist, in spots, but no standing water. The rough is quite thin and yellowing Bermuda in a lot of areas. Not very penalizing, but takes away from the beauty a little bit. The greens were pretty good sizes and beautiful. No bare spots, rolled well, not a lot of ball marks, but a little on the slower side. There is no GPS on the carts, which is a bummer. Bunkers were beautiful and fluffy. There is a lot of water, which is great, unless you are in it. There is no beverage cart, but the turn is next to the clubhouse, where you can stock up. The bar/restaurant area is gorgeous and has great A/C. The staff is very friendly.

I have always liked this course and would definitely recommend it.

Second day in Vegas and played with group of Pals on April 30th mid morning. Starter was very friendly and got us out right on time. Course was set amongst homes in a Del Webb Community, Tee boxes were all great, level, easy to put a peg in the ground. Fairways were tight and gave a lot of roll on a well placed tee shot. Rough was easy to play from, though I was lucky enough to not have to play too many shots from off the fairways. Bunkers were easy to play from and had plenty of nice soft sand in them. Greens had some punch marks still visible but the balls rolled true to their line. Saw the beverage cart multiple times. Staff was very friendly and accommodating to all our needs. It was an enjoyable morning of golf and I would play this course again in the future

This tracke was very enjoyable to play. The tee boxes where nice and flat and as firm. The fairway was in excellent condition nicely mowed and plush enough to get a wedge into a shot. The rough was a bit long, about 3"-4". You sometimes have to be over the ball to see it. The bunkers have nice quality of sand and smooth to get out of. The greens roles medium and true. It's a very enjoyable course.

WHEW! Tough conditions! But this is about the course...
Palm Valley seems like almost a "hybrid" Las Vegas course- a little parkland muni mixed into a lot of desert. It winds its way through Sun City and is fairly level, as opposed to its sister course Highland Falls, which is just another stop up the road and more sloped. I always enjoy a round here and even more so now as they've brought in beautiful new sand to bring the bunkers up to stellar condition.
The tee boxes are fine and the fairways are tight with a LOT of roll right now after the Winter. I averaged another welcomed 15 yards over my normal meager drives of 220 this day. The rough is tight, dormant & yellow (bermuda I think?)- good news: nice tight, high spinning lies are the rule, bad news: ball will usually find a somewhat cuppy lie to settle into. Makes for tough chipping during the Winter/Spring months.
Greens were lightly sanded and I had a lot of difficulty judging my speed this day, but I'm not a low-handicap player and can have poor days with the flat stick no matter what the conditions may be. No matter, I'll bet that within a week or so they'll be their usual delight. They're firm (nice-that keeps the ball marks down a bit), they're reasonably receptive and contoured- enough to get your attention, but not too penal.
Palm Valley is a great course for all ages and abilities- generous fairways, greens not too difficult, good/great conditions/reasonably priced and a nice mix of holes. Water is in play on here and there and a couple of smaller ponds sit in front of some tee boxes, but those are more for looks than hazards. The testers mostly come from the par 3s. They're very well guarded with multiple traps/fall-offs and a ball missing the green by just a couple of feet can end up down 20 yards away on a tight, yet soft lie. Nasty. They also get longer and more difficult as your 18 hole journey progresses. Hope your irons on on!
Always an enjoyable track, well maintained, friendly staff, nice range (on mats).
Highly recommended!

Haven't played Palm Valley for awhile and it's currently very different from what I remember. Instead of the typical U.S. style course, it's gotten an interesting facelift this Winter. Almost British links-style, firm, fast, tight yellow/brown fairways- not the same as before, but very, very playable.
The greens appear to have been completely reseeded with a new grass that rolls nice and smooth, but seemed inconsistent on speed- I had some downhill putts from distance go well past the hole and a couple of 7-footers that looked terrifyingly quick come up a foot short. This is a course I have played nearly 100 times over the years and with the exception of the one gentleman in our foursome that announced he plays there nearly every day, we all had trouble with our putting distances. But again, the roll was nice and smooth. Hmmm... maybe there is now a grain effect I don't recognize? Whatever, I loved the surface, just disappointed in my inability to read it.
There is one issue. The course was designed as kind of a a parkland layout, with dips, hills, runoffs and collection areas surrounding the greens. Now with the tight, firm conditions chipping the ball is extremely difficult as there is no tolerance at all and the ball would often come to rest in small, cuppy lies. We ended up mostly resorting to putting from off the green. However with different little grass clumps invading the areas immediately adjacent to the greens and little ridges and dips bordering them, the "Texas wedge" approach gets your ball bouncing before the putting surface and nearly impossible to control. Despite that one drawback, I enjoyed the course enough to go right back the next day and play it again.
I like the change overall. It's certainly different from the other courses I've been playing in town, but other than the chipping woes the play was really nice- firm and fast everywhere- and the new sand is absolutely wonderful, maybe the best in the valley. Every bunker shot I had came out just the way it should over both days (even my bad ones, lol).

Before my review of this course please note that the front nine of this course is CLOSED for the summer. They are redoing the irrigation system. Next summer they will do the back nine. I arrived at the course at 2:00 on Saturday to an empty parking lot. The starter then in formed me that I would have to play the back nine twice, which was fine for me for the price of $25. Got my cart and I was off. The only other golfers I saw was two ladies putting out on 18. The first thing I noticed was how green the course was. Even with the type of sunglasses I was wearing, which usually enhances the not so green areas, there was no brown to be found. The course played fantastic, lush fairways and nice greens, just putting a little summertime slow. The rough was just a little longer than the fairways and the ball could sit down a bit. I was not in any sand, but it looked fine maybe a little baked and crusty. On one note about bunkers on this course that I noticed, there was an abundance of rakes for every bunker. Course was not overly difficult, but missing a green on the wrong side could be trouble. The course plays over 6800 yards from the blues and there are 4 sets of tees to choose from. I was very pleased i chose this course and playing the back nine twice was perfectly fine with these lush conditions. POP 2.5

Played 1.27.18 with a 9 am tee time. The course is in great shape now. The greens in particular were rolling really nicely. This course winds thru a retirement type community, where many of the residents are members with their own carts etc. I say this because It seems as tho the course employs / deploys many of the senior residents as greeters, starters, attendants, and marshals. I played as part of a group that rotates the game to many of the courses in the area weekly and we get the most attendance when Palm Valley is on the schedule. Coming off the 9th green we were greeted by a marshal who asked how we found the course conditions to that point. He seemed to genuinely want our input and we found that refreshing. You would be hard pressed to find a course that gives you more value for your green fees. $40 resident fee includes range balls and a discount at the 19th hole. All the staff we encountered were warm and welcoming. On the course the highlights for me were definitely the greens! they were...... beautiful ? That seems to be the best description. The fairways were lush with not many bare spots or unprepared divots, except on a few holes like 9, 13, 14, 18. These holes are designed such that most golfers find themselves in pretty much the same place in the fairway with their tee shots. The sand in the bunkers was fluffy and only 1 bunker was messy and out of sorts with the others ( the front bunker on 14 which seemed to be a popular catch spot for long drives and short approach shots ). The course is not a difficult one but the set up provides for a fast POP and a fun time. Birdies can be made on this fun track .

On Friday morning, my first round was at Palm Valley. I had booked a 6:10 tee time for $45 as a non-resident. I showed up around 5:30 to see if I could get off first by myself. By that time (still pitch black outside), there were already 15-20 old dudes raring to go and getting all their carts in line to start. The pro shop guy was nice and did get me off a little early, teeing off with a fun threesome of Sun City residents/members around 5:50. The groups ahead played super fast and we never saw anyone after the first few holes. We still enjoyed a great pace as a foursome at around 3:15, so no complaints. The course was in decent shape overall. Again, I'd say it was playing better than it looked. The tee boxes were fine. The fairways were very dappled in color because there are many different grasses growing in various patches. I looks like old school camouflage with different amoeba-like shades of green and brown throughout. However, it was cut consistently and mostly good to play from. Very soft on a wet/muggy morning with a few thin muddy patches throughout. The rough was decent and more consistent with primarily semi-dry bermuda grass, but cut down and not much of a factor. The greens were very soft and rather slow with the morning moisture. Bumpy in places, but mostly fine. The bunkers are a huge mess right now as they are in the beginning stages of a complete bunker renovation. About half the bunkers on the course have been torn up and they are putting down new tarps. Those play as GUR. Then, the bunkers that still have sand in them tell you why they are doing this renovation. They were not too good and it will be a big improvement to have them all redone. I do not know how long the renovation is expected to take, but take note before booking a round here. The layout is pretty straightforward. What you see is what you get on most holes. Standard desert residential kind of layout along the lines of Aliante, Silverstone, Angel Park, etc. Solid course that's pretty forgiving off the tee. Big fairways and big greens. Seemed to play long for a course designed primarily for seniors, especially the par-3s. All but one are rather beefy in length, even from the white tees. Again, not a destination course by any measure, but a solid local track where you can usually find good value. Expect big crowds of members in the morning, but I imagine the afternoons in the summer are wide open.

Played Sunday, 6/5, with a 7ish tee time with a group of guys from work. I can't believe it's been 4 years since I played here and I'm willing to say it'll a lot less the next time. Don't expect Vegas style customer service. Carry your bags up from the small parking lot, pay up, then load your own cart (with cooler stocked with 2 waters) and I'm absolutely fine with it. Drink cart started around 9, but we saw her twice on the back 9. The bar/grill is now ran by a local tavern group but I did not check it out this time. Driving range is mats only, which I was disappointed with, but a nice putting green consistent with the course. We finished a few minutes under 4 hours, playing through a group playing the tips that spent about 15 minutes looking for a ball on a par 3. Course was in terrific condition considering the heat wave over the last week. The course was very wet in the morning, causing a bit of a humidity issue with no breeze blowing through. Tee boxes were shaggy on the front, cut on the back, and all had very little damage with plenty of space to tee up. Fairways were incredible, very lush, but with the watering, very little roll out. Rough was cut about 1 inch above fairway and thin, with some crabgrass growing mixed in with the bermuda. Greens were soft and receptive, but had practically no unrepaired ball marks. They rolled smooth and a bit slower than medium pace. Bunkers were typical of the desert, hard packed. They are not very deep so not difficult to get out of with the conditions. I still do not know why it took so long to come back, I loved the course. It may have been my abysmal score the last time, it may be because it's through a residential neighborhood (Sun City Summerlin) with houses in play on some holes. I start judging a course's holes on their par 3s, and PV has a great variety, running from 125 to 204 yards from the whites (6300ish yards). A couple of Par 5s are reachable for those longer hitters, and the a good mix of par 4s. We paid $45 NV resident rate, a bit high for summer, but they have a $20 loyalty card which would lower it to $40. Definitely worth a try and pair with with the other GolfSummerlin course, Highland Falls.
