Last but not least, this was the sixth and final round on our trip. We had booked a 1:00 tee time. It wasn't very busy at all out there on a warm and windy Tuesday afternoon, so we teed off early as a twosome and never caught anyone on our first 18 holes. We played Canyon/Lakes and then did a replay on Sunrise to complete all 27 holes at this facility. We had to play through a couple of members on the first tee of Sunrise, but otherwise had it to ourselves. The course was in good overall condition. It is starting to get a little browner and dryer out here, but the playability was excellent. The tee boxes and fairways were very well kept. The rough seemed a little inconsistent, but I still generally had good lies wherever I was. The greens were super firm and easily the fastest of the trip. It was hard to get any approach shot to stop and downhill putts were frightening. It seems the Canyon greens were aerated last, so you can still see the dots but nothing affected putts. They were the fastest greens of the three nines and then the others seemed a little less slick. The bunkers were just okay. Not the best of the trip, but not the worst either. I liked this course a lot. It's definitely a challenging RTJ Jr. layout with very few flat lies to be found anywhere on the course. Each nine offers something a little different. Even though it is crazy at times, I liked the Lakes nine the most. Lots of water comes into play and it is just a tricky layout with many severe slopes and mounds. Anything near the water will catch the edge and disappear, so you always have to give any hazard a pretty wide berth. Some really cool and dramatic holes on this nine, though. Then, I liked Canyon second. It's also got a nice, challenging layout but not as extreme as Lakes. Lastly, Sunrise felt kind of like the "lite" nine that members probably enjoy for a more casual round. That said, the 9th hole of Sunrise offers one of the more intimidating approach shots on the property. Overall, Spanish Trail is a really good layout that will test every aspect of your game. The facilities are nice and the clubhouse is beautiful, as well. Really nice semi-private club atmosphere.

Spanish Trail did a much better job with the transition this fall than it did last year. Greens are pretty good, smooth with a few ball marks and medium speed. Still a little soft but firming up.

The fairways and rough are still quite soft as the ball picks up some dirt. But they also will firm up in a couple weeks. Plenty of greenness to be seen everywhere. There are quite a few bare spots in the rough but mostly in areas well to the sides of where you should be hitting it. None of dormant Bermuda that was so prevalent last year.

Service is still good here. Beverage cart around a couple times each nine. Electric carts with GPS (nothing fancy just distances). Two ice chests on each cart with complementary water. Wet towels are also provided. Range and putting green are functional with putting green running the same as the course greens.

Played the (g)old person tees at about 5958 as opposed to the whites at about 6481. The 500 yards difference just made for a more enjoyable round of golf.

Don't hesitate to play here if you get the chance. Course will only be getting better as it firms up. Nice to see Spanish Trail getting back to being a pleasant place to play like it used to be.

The LAKES COURSE & SUNRISE COURSE were overseeded. They spent alot on $$$ fixing up the CANYON COURSE this year & as such it was decided not to overseed the CANYON COURSE.

Best 9 holes was the LAKES course absolutely beautiful and would highly recommend this course and it could stand up to any 9 holes.

Both Lakes & Sunrise are in great condition as they overseeded the fairways and rough was in very good shape. I was in two bunkers and they were in great shape knocked it stiff from 180 yards and 25 yards. Greens rolling well and were fairly fast.

The CANYON COURSE has a nice layout but was not overseeded. The members told me that they just spent alot of $$$ to fix it up the course, the bad news is i could not even tell, the course was in terrible shape it could have been a municipal course. I hit a great drive down the middle of the 4th hole and the fairway was slightly slanted towards the lake and my ball came within 4 feet of rolling in the lake and as a result i had an extreme side hill lie next to lake.

Overall it was a fun time. And would highly recommend lakes and sunrise and maybe canyon if they invest the $$ in overseeding thr fairways and rough on this 9 next year.

Played 2/26/2015 at 9:30, temp in mid 60's, winds light. Played Sunrise/Canyon nines. Sunrise was OK. At least the course was green from overseeding in the fall. Fairways, rough and greens had grass -- although there were plenty of bare spots especially in the fringes. Canyon was terrible. Dormant bermuda in rough and fairways. No sign of any overseeding except on the greens which were like those on the Sunrise. Very little maintenance activity going on. Did not appear that the greens had been cut that morning so they were slower than I have seen before. Place was very quiet for a good weather Thursday morning. Ladies club had a shot gun at 9AM, but only about 12 players. We were a foursome; only saw two other groups, both twosomes. So POP was very nice. We've had a mild winter in LV this year, so most of the other courses are nice and green (with at least one exception -- Painted Desert). It seems Spanish Trail has no money to spend on taking care of the course, which is a shame since this used to be a wonderful place to play.

Course finally has new carts as of about last April. No cart issues any more. Pedestrian GPS, but ice chests with two comp waters and wet towels. Class operation at this place. Good grass driving range, nice chipping area and large putting greens.

Just coming out of overseeding. Not yet ready for prime time.

Canyon: About back to normal. Fairways and rough are good. Bunkers and tees are good. Greens were aerated about 10 days ago so not as smooth as usual. Canyon is in the best shape of the three nines.

Lakes: Greens were quite smooth, but very soft. Deep ball marks -- even held a five wood into one green. But only recently opened from overseeding. Fairways are pretty furry. Rough is almost 5" -- couple of lost balls in the thick rough. Tees are almost as long as the rough. Course is quite damp and mowing is not back to regular schedule.

Sunrise nine is not available for play.

Entire course still about three weeks away from best playing conditions.

Course is in passable condition. Greens are good but very firm. Fairways are green but lies are tight (which is the polite way of saying that they are firm and thin). Rough on Sunrise 9 is similar, but rough on Canyon 9 is dormant Bermuda so the club bounces some on impact.
Bunkers look nice but the sand depth is about 1/4"and very firm underneath that. [The Lakes nine has green grass in the rough. It is short, but the only brown rough is on the Canyon nine.]

Range is natural turf, but mostly dirt lies. They need to move the hitting area to the grassy part.
Pace of play was good for a Saturday morning as we finished in about 3.5 hours. Beverage cart service was regular and friendly.

Major issue is the carts. The last three times I have played here, the cart died on the back nine. Had to call the pro shop for a replacement which was promptly provided, but still annoying. They claim to have new ones on the way, but the cash flow must be suspect or they would have them by now.

Can't really recommend this course until it warms up and the grass starts growing. And until they get the new carts.

On Thursday, February 13th I played Spanish Trail Country Club with GK-jeroethel and a member of the club. We had a 10:45am tee time and played the Canyon 9 and then the Lakes 9.

As always, the outside services staff was great. They met me at my car in the guest parking lot, picked up my bag and offered me a ride to the practice range. Spanish Trail has a very robust practice facility with a driving range, chipping green and putting green and there are plenty of golf balls available for all golfers (members & guests). The only small issue was that the driving range only had the mats open so I limited my practice swings.

We tee’d off right on time and played at a good pace for the first 9 holes. On the Canyon 9, the course was in very good shape. The tee boxes and fairways were nearly perfect and the greens rolled very true, although they were extremely fast (it was nearly impossible to stop a downhill putt). The bunkers were well manicured and in my limited experience they were easy to navigate. The course also played a bit easier than normal as the rough is dormant this time of year.

Our back-9 was played on the Lakes course and again the course was in very good shape. The rough is not dormant on Lakes at this time of year so it was a bit more of a challenge, but the greens appeared to be a bit slower so putting was easier than on the Canyon 9. The only two negatives about our Lakes experience was that: (a) the pace of play slowed as we ran into a couple slower twosomes in front of us; and (b) our electric cart ran out of juice. Apparently, this has been a problem for the club in recent months and the member we played with mentioned it happened to him during one of his last rounds. We called the clubhouse and they quickly sent out a new cart for us to finish our round so at least they are very attentive to the problem.

Overall, if you have a chance to play at Spanish Trail I highly recommend it.

Played 11-10-13 on the canyon/lakes rotation in the afternoon tee of at 12:40 and just finishing before dark. Golf course is in good shape. Tee boxes had nice grass with level stance. Fairways were a little soft with some thin areas that havent filled in from over seeding. Rough not that long , easy to hit from. Sand traps were thin and hard. Greens were rolling pretty good with medium speed. Fun course with mostly wide open fairways and water coming into play on some holes. Great risk reward five par on the lakes with water gaurding the right side of the green, follwed by a picturesque three par with waterfalls in front and to the right.

Canyon has not yet started overseeding, is also in fine shape and probably doesn't need new grass. Lakes just started overseeding and is closed.
Although a private course, there are some tee times available to the public all seven days, especially Mon-Thurs. Rates less than $100, as low as $49, but will be going up as the weather cools down.

If you ever wanted to play Spanish Trail, now is the time. Great conditions and won't break your wallet.
Range is great, cart service was great and lots of little touches like wet towels and free water.
