Played in the GK outing, very nice event.

The course looked fabulous, the greens were FAST & firm, it was difficult to make a ball mark even with a full wedge coming in high. Very undulating greens even when they appeared to be fairly flat, difficult to read subtle breaks, easily the quickest greens I've attempted to putt on in recent memory. Tees boxes were well maintained & in good/excellent condition. The fairways were lush & green, but you could get some tight lies. I wasn't in any sand, but it appeared to be well maintained as well. Overall, excellent course and layout.

My only complaint was that the pro shop & the Marshall BOTH told out group that it was pin position #6... which we later found out was actually pin position #3. Makes it a challenge when no one in your group knows the course well. It is flat out irritating to have an almost blind shot from down in a valley where you can only see the top of the pin & the pin sheet indicates that it's a back left pin... and you hit your shot to what you think should be 20-30 ft. below and to the right of the hole... only to find that it's a back or middle right pin instead. And the shot you thought should be 20-30ft. from the hole in the middle of the green is actually now off in a ditch or drainage area, because what the pin position sheet indicated should have been the middle of the green wasn't.

The grill provided a typical golf course type menu @ typical golf course prices, it was a little odd that they closed @ 5pm on a Saturday afternoon for food service.

Played in the GK event yesterday. I felt like these were the fastest greens I have putted on in a long time. I did see a couple of bumps on a putt here and there, but mostly it was real smooth. It appeared the greens were firm and many shots would run through if they did not have a lot of loft. Fairways and adjacent rough were in good condition and offered great lies. You don't want any part of the tall fescue outside the mowed part of the course. This course is very challenging and staying out of the many dunes is key. Sand was very fine, and if wet could become somewhat packed. For the most part, I felt the sand was okay. I had a great time at the event and felt the course personnel were attentive and friendly. I look forward to more rounds here in the future.

Played on 10/8 with the GK event. I loved the greens here! If you missed a put, it was your fault. Since this was my first time playing here, I was a little intimidated on the tee on a few holes. Probably cost me a couple of strokes not knowing where I was going. Overall a great experience, and look forward to coming back soon. My only complaint was the bunker on the right side of hole #9. I wasn't in it, but looking at it made me think it was a little unfair, I could never understand huge lips on a bunker 200 yards out. Just sayin'...

We played on Monday @ 8 AM in the fog and sun. We finished in 4 hours and that was with the course being crowded. Tough to play # 1 in the fog when you are playing it for the first time. Good thing we were with two regulars. By the 3rd hole it began to clear and while it was not sunny, we began to see just how nice this course is. Monarch is a great blend of holes and the use of water on many of them, makes it even more of a challenge. This to me, is the best of the Trilogy courses I have played. With water, elevation changes and fast greens, this course will provide you with one great day of golf. The staff is outstanding and the members get together during the week (I saw about 15 of them) and go out and repair the greens and do a fantastic job. This course deserve high praise and I can see why everyone who has played here, truly enjoyed themselves. If this course was closer I would play it everyday. It also has a great driving range to loosen up after your long drive up from LA. Make sure you have a GPS or write down the directions before you go, as it has a few turns coming in from 101.

Played Sat tee time was 2 PM...but talked our way on at 1 PM. They had a Jr. Golf Tourney during the morning so we did the 12 hole Par 3 Challenger Course...which is in perfect condition. The Old Course (full 18 track) is very challenging...and the greens are a fast terror! Way too many "clown golf" double and triple-tiered greens and fast as lightning. Some of the greens were sanded/punched. The overall experience was great but a very hard course. Better than yesterday's BLACKLAKE course and now we finish our trip at Cypress Ridge. Fore!

Played 8/5/11 (4-ball 7:36). Course is in good shape and a fun play. It just played a little slow because of the 3 ball two groups up ahead. They were two holes behind at the end.

Played Monarch Dunes a few weeks ago (mid-July), and I was thoroughly impressed. The greens were impeccable, the fairways well-kept. The course seems very young, but I loved the layout. A perfect mix of challenge and beauty. It seems like the mediocre golfer could fair okay as it is challenging but not overly difficult. Apparently there is also a Par 3 "challenge" course here. If you are in the SLO/Pismo area, go to this course!!

First time playing here in over six months. Biggest difference in this time has to be the greens. They have softened them up big time from last year, and not sure if this is going to continue. In the past the firmness of the greens played a big role in how you hit your approach shots on this links course. The conditions are very good for a cold winter here on the central coast, and I hope GK keeps this course in its tourney rotation.

Played Monarch Dunes on 10/16. The reviews about the conditions below pretty much speak for themselves. I agree... the course was in fantastic shape with exception to some of the greens and lush all the way around. This was my second time playing the course and loved it even more despite shooting 10 strokes higher. LOL.

The take I want to give on Monarch Dunes is from a group organizer standpoint. I must say I was impressed with how courteous/supportive the staff was. They handled our check-in properly, range balls and communication. Our pace of play was UNDER 5 hours. The course is very well suited for a mid-sized outing with a welcoming entry, excellent practice facility and bar/grill. The layout is loaded with many challenging yet not too tough Par 3’s for Closest To The Pin contests plus many risk reward Par 5’s. It’s a blast to play! Some of our players felt this was our best outing of the year they attended. I highly recommend this course.
