I played today, 12-26-17, with the GK Review Gurus. This was my second time playing here and I enjoyed it even more this time. It’s a very fun layout and surprisingly challenging for a short course. Even though I wasn’t entirely successful on them today, my favorite holes are the three par-3’s over water. The conditions were pretty good considering all of the recent rain. There were many very wet areas on the fairways but the grass was in really nice shape. The tee boxes were level and not too badly chewed up. The practice green was pretty bumpy but the course greens were smooth and medium fast. I found 2 bunkers. One was a giant puddle, the other was dry with heavy, coarse sand that was really easy to hit out of. I look forward to playing here again when the weather is nicer. I’m determined to get a better score than I did today. Many thanks to Johnny and everyone else for another great outing.

Played today with the GK Meetup. Fairly soggy conditions overall as it was raining overnight and into the morning hours just before teeing off. There were a couple of sprinkles as the latest storm was clearing out. This is a well-maintained course and I would like to come back with better weather. I thought the greens were a good speed: medium-fast and mostly rolling true. There were some subtle breaks and it was challenging to read the speed and break just right. Tees were mostly good: level and not too beat up. The fairways were good overall; however, it was a mix of wet and wetter areas. It looks like it was draining okay for the most part without a lot of deep standing water. Of course some areas were roped off and we played it as cart path only although I don't remember seeing any signs or any course personnel telling us. Good times with fellow GKers.

Played 2-5-17 with my cousins who live in the area. This was my first time here. I have heard it’s a fun course and I do agree. We had a 1pm tee time in very chilly misty weather. On the front nine we waited on every hole but we knew that the back would move faster once all the football fans were gone. We finished in little over 4 hours. The course actually turned out to be more interesting than what I was expecting. I played some holes from the whites and some from the gray, just whatever looked better to me at the time. There were several par 3’s over water which gave me no trouble. Where I did find trouble, though, was the many holes under the massive tree roots. I quickly lost two balls there. The course conditions were pretty so-so. The greens were firm, fast and bumpy. I wasn’t in any bunkers but they appeared to have a decent enough amount of sand. The fairways were inconsistent, but other than the few wet or GUR areas, played just fine with a good amount of roll. There was a disturbing number of bird carcasses around the course and a gross amount of goose poop, but I guess that’s not too surprising with the number of lakes. It looks like a really good walking course. I plan to do that next time – in warmer weather!

Played 9-12-16 with John and Gary walking in about 3 hours and 45 minutes. Tee boxes were mostly in good shape, some being a little thin and some a little unlevel. Fairways were in very good shape, very green kikuya with the ball sitting up very nice. Rough was not much of a factor, pretty short and easy to hit from. Was not in any bunkers but playing partners said they were okay to hit from but a little firm. Greens were in good shape, a little slow and very soft. For late summer this course is in real nice shape.

Played Westlake Golf Course with rgm2525 and GDR23 on Monday. Always a pleasure and good time teeing it up with those GK'ers.

Played Westlake Golf Course with rgm2525 and GDR23 on Monday. Always a pleasure and good time teeing it up with those GK'ers.

It’s nice to play a course only 5 minutes from me as opposed to always driving over hour – lol. I always enjoy this course. It’s a flat executive par 67 track with mostly narrow tree lined fairways, fair/challenging greens, some forced carries over water and some challenging greenside bunkers. It’s not a course to take for granted and good track to sharpen your iron game on.

The conditions of Westlake Golf Course were typical of how it normally plays this time of year. Mostly lush kikuya/bermuda fairways (ball sits up great), hardly any rough to speak off other than slightly longer grass greenside which is mostly lush, some divot damage on the tee boxes due to the large amount of play and many iron shots struck from the tee, but decent and playable, good bunkers with fair amount of sand, and slow, yet mostly smooth and holding shots well greens. I think the peak condition of Westlake Golf Course occurs April – August and then conditions gradually decline becoming dryer in September - November, then giving way to dormant fairways in December – March yet quicker/firmer greens. Right now is still a great time to play Westlake Golf Course. They normally aerate the greens in early October.

Fun course for a quick round. Great course to break-in new players to the game and have an easy stroll. Recommended.

Had a great time this morning 9/12/16 playing with buddies RGM2525 and JohnnyGK at Westlake for a GK guru round walking the back tees in 3 hrs 30 minutes on a beautiful windless semi-foggy mid 60 degree tee off start. We had a blast driving par 4 greens, watching an eagle putt drop and making some birdies today. Always a pleasure playing with Ron and Johnny. The course is very Lush and Green right now. The fairways are super green and lush kikuyu with your ball sitting up. Hardly any problem areas other than a few super watered areas. Some of the better fairways that I have seen at Westlake even though I hardly get out here. Rating the fairways an 8/10. The greens are super green, healthy, soft on iron approaches and putting slow. Fixed an extra couple ballmarks here and there. Rating them a 7/10. We actually played behind the back markers and I was always able to find a level stance on the tees. Most tees were being mowed and looked to be semi-lush and in good shape. I think they rotate the tee markers here on a regular basis which preserves some of the tees they have here. Rating the tees a 7/10. Was in 2 bunkers today behind 3 green and left of 14 green that had harder compact brownish sand that was easy to hit out of. Rating the sand a 6.5/10. They have lush and green kikuyu rough that was cut between 1-2 inches and not that penal surrounding green complexes and the edge of fairways. They have cut down some trees at Westlake which lets you rip the driver even more here. I like the changes they have made and they have added some areas of woodchips here and there which are playing as ground under repair at the current time. If you like treeline fairways, kikuyu, lush conditions and short game practice this is the course for you. Recommended--thanks Westlake for having us out.

Walked the Blues (4961/63.1/105) in 3H, 15M on the GK certificate for $16.50 on a sunny, still morning with temps nearing 90 by the time we were finishing. Matched up with Bob & Shay who were very fun guys to play with. Overall, a fun course that plays tougher than you would expect a 5000 yard course to play because of all the trees that come into play on anything crooked. Also, these greens are fairly large for a shorter course, you better have your lag putting down to score well here. The tees were decent, worn thin in a few spots. With more par 3's than a regulation course, you definitely see more unfixed divots here. The Kikuyu fairways were lush, occasionally thin and very nice to play from. The Kikuyu rough was lush and well maintained. The sand traps were decent. They had an adequate amount of sand and were well maintained. The greens putted medium speed and were smooth. Fairly soft, they were very receptive to holding iron shots. The fringes are Kikuyu here, and my best advice is to to avoid them. Even though they are mowed down, the fringes are very difficult to putt over or even bump and run over. Their turf reduction program now has numerous areas off the beaten path that are wood chips and plants rather than grass. From a visual standpoint, it adds some contrast and looks good. The customer service was good from everyone encountered. No drink cart, but they do have a restaurant @ the turn. Recommended as a good change of pace.

Walked the Blues (4961/63.1/105) in 3H, 50M on the GK certificate for $16.50 on a sunny morning with temps already above 90 by the time we were finishing. Matched up with Rick, Max & Irv, 3 senior regulars who were very fun guys to play with. Their turf reduction looks to be complete, with numerous areas off the beaten path now wood chips and plants rather than grass. From a visual standpoint, it adds some contrast and looks nice! The tees were average, worn thin in a few spots. With more par 3's than a regulation course, you definitely see more unfixed divots here. They looked to have a decent amount of sand but none had been raked today, so most traps had numerous sets of footprints. The greens putted medium speed and smooth, very nice! Was able to get out for an afternoon round yesterday (Sunday) at Westlake Golf Course. Local executive with some challenge to it on the greens and in general on the par 3’s. Felt the golf course was in good shape for this time of year. It’s a bermunda/kikuyu turf course so it’s still dormant/thin for the most part in the fairways/rough. The greens being it was a Sunday afternoon after a weekend of heavy play were on the slow side and at times bumpy due to ball mark repairs and, unfortunately some un-repaired ball marks. The group behind us might I have been frustrated a little having to wait a little for me but I made sure to take the time to quickly fix as many as I could. The greens did hold shots well and the pin placements sure made for some challenging/fun putts. I was not in a bunker but they looked to be in decent shape. The tee boxes, understandably given it’s a short course where irons off the tee, and beginning golfers play often, had a fair amount of divot damage. But it’s easy to find a good piece of turf to hit off so that did not bother me. I always have a good time playing this course. Especially yesterday as I as joined by GK’er Mattias. Not for GK Cup match, just a quick casual round of golf. Weather was beautiful and I had the golf bug so we hit it up. Thanks Mattias for making the drive up from Hollywood to play. Recommend playing for a local round of golf.
