Walked the blues (4961/63.1/105) in 3 1/2 hours on the GK $19.50 coupon on an overcast afternoon with temperatures in the 70's. From tee to green the course was in good to excellent shape. Tees were nice, fairways and the rough were both semi lush and well maintained. They have discontinued watering numerous areas of the rough that are fairly out of play which has created a brownish desert scape appearance that looks nice. The greens were not in as good of condition as the rest of the course. Medium slow and bumpy, but they were at least very receptive to holding iron shots. They also had more than their share of unfixed ball marks. The fringes are kikuyu here, and my best advice is to to avoid them. Even though they are mowed down, the fringes are very difficult to putt over or even bump and run over. Our 4some had numerous chips just stop when they caught the fringe, like velcro. You need to get over the fringes on your chips here in the air. The sand traps were nicely maintained around the edges with hard packed sand. However, EVERY trap I saw had numerous sets of footprints that were unraked. Come on people! The customer service was excellent. No drink cart, but they do have a restaurant @ the turn. The Marshall was visible, very friendly and came around several times. Overall, a fun course that plays tougher than you would expect a 5000 yard course to play because of all the trees that come into play on anything crooked. Also, these greens are fairly large for a shorter course, you better have your "A" lag putting stroke to play well here.

Met my buddy Rick from church who works in Sherman Oaks for a twilight round yesterday July 3rd, 2015. Westlake fit the bill halfway between Sherman Oaks and Moorpark. The weather was semi hot at 2:45pm as we teed off as a twosome and then joined a nice father and son on the 4th tee and then played as a twosome for the back nine as they split. We played the blue tees and finished in 4 hours as there were many groups on the course today. Slight breeze but just beautiful golf conditions for a nice walk. We paid $26.00 as it was marked as a holiday rate. My buddy Rick enjoys playing here so we had a great time. Westlake is a very short tree lined course framed by tall trees on both sides of the fairways. Here are the current conditions of the course.

Fairways 8.5/10----I grew up playing some rounds here years ago and I do not remember the fairways ever this LUSH and NICE. I almost rated them a 9 and probably should have. They were the highlight of the course--ball sitting up nicely in the kikuyu grass. Very little problem spots at all.

Tees 7/10----They are lush with some divots on the par 3's. I would have rated them higher but many tees were unlevel.

Greens 7/10---As far as healthy grass is concerned they are an 8 or 9 with little to no ballmarks. I made sure I fixed as many ballmarks as I could see while we waited for other groups in front of us. These greens are SLOW though compared to the courses I play and a player here must adjust to them. They are very soft on approach shots and overall I would rate the greens a little above average. Shorter putts need to be struck firm and not giving the hole away.

Bunkers N/R---I was not in any bunkers but it looked like they contained ample sand. I am not sure if it was just holiday golfers but as I walked by numerous bunkers I saw multiple huge footprints--come on people if you are in the sand take a minute to rake them---the groups behind you can wait the extra 30 seconds to a minute.

Rough 7/10---Some minor rough along some of the fairways that was in pretty good shape and not that thick.

The management team at Westlake are always friendly and very nice. The general manager is very friendly. They have a nice size putting green and a huge driving range that is always packed. I can recommend the course right now considering the condition of the fairways---they are in great shape. This course gives you multiple holes where you need to bend your driver left or right around doglegs. You will also get multiple chances to work on your short game and wedge game. Had a nice time---thanks Westlake GC.

Played 5-20-15 teeing off at 6:30 am finishing at 8:20 am. I don,t expect much from this course so I was pleasantly surprised with the conditions. Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly level with minimal divot damage. Fairways were in nice shape with good lies. Rough is not to long and easy to hit from. Found one trap to the right of the 5th green which had a good layer of nicely groomed sand. Greens were rolling very slow, but held there line fairly well. I don't play here that often but I found a great deal on golfnow for $12.49 including cart. Short course with to many three pars for my liking, but with the conditions right now it"s worth playing if you like a short 67 par course.

Played with a friend of mine and had a tee time set up for 9:15 for May 2. The course was running about 20 minutes behind, due to the fact that they were sending out twosomes instead of grouping two groups together to make a full foursome.

We got called to the tee and decided to join the group in front of us, who were two very nice guys. Got the round in a little over 4 hours which is a decent POP. The course is mostly made up of short par 4's and has 7 par 3's.

Tee boxes were a little beat up, but with so many par 3's that is understandable, the fairways and rough were in good shape probably 6 or 7 rating. Greens held shots nicely, and were a little slow. However, they still had some sand on them from the recent work, but that should heal nicely in another week or so. Wasn't in the pits, but they looked to be in decent shape.

All in all a good time was had, and being a shorter course, it's nice to play occasionally to get some confidence back. Will return soon.

I've been passing by Westlake quite often on the freeway lately & thought I'd give it another shot. Used the great GK walking deal and joined a threesome. Starters were quite friendly. POP was slow for this course at around 4 hours, but it was senior day, so lots of old folks playing this morning. I'll live.

As for the course, it looks just as good up close & personal as it does from the freeway. Whoever is the superintendent is doing a great job. I have never seen it better. Was even impressed with who I assume to be either the GM or superintendent riding around in his cart inspecting areas of the course. Also around was the marshall to speed up those slow poke seniors.

One thing that I don't like here is that everything is cut too long. Greens are still shaggy poa annua that slow everything down. I still haven't figured them out after almost 10 rounds here. Also long are the fairways. Not to bothersome, but wish they'd give them a trim. Otherwise, they are looking great! Never seen the fairways better, very lush. Only one or two holes had some really patchy spots, otherwise they were pretty much all one grass and rolling well.

The greens also looked good, I just don't like them. Pretty firm however. Receptive to shots, but not too many deep ballmarks like I normally see. Rolled ok.

Rough was short, but not scraggly or nonexistent like city munis. Was enough in some spots to make you think.

I was not in any bunkers so I can't comment on those, but the sand looked good.

Tee boxes were OK. The ones that were brand new last time I was here have settled in well-too well. They were mainly on the back nine and were very firm-hard to put a tee in. Otherwise, some were uneven, but most were ok.

I really don't get why this course is being rated so low. Maybe it is because it's an executive & they're kind of looked down upon. Get out and play Westlake! I've never seen it better and everyone is hard at work continuing to make it better.

I seem to always have fun playing Westlake Golf Course. Its challenges me to hit the ball straight off the tee, the par 3's are no push-overs, the greens are undulating and decently protected. There are times when the course can play slow but most often it plays at a good pace. Shared a round last Sunday with Ringworld, Sixpez and Mattias. How could I not have a blast with those guys...thanks for the round.

I agree with the course condition reported by ringworld and sixpez. I've played Westlake Golf Course many times before, and for the winter, its in good shape. Greens are running mostly smooth and med-fast, fairways thin but there is coverage, rough...well same as the fairways, there really is no rough, tee boxes mostly level but you'll find your share of divots on the tees simply because its a short and narrow track. The bunkers were in good shape although on the firm side. Overall, it's worth the price to play and with the GK Coupon for only $19 on the weekday, its a great deal.

Played Sunday with JohnnyGK, Six and Mattias. Showed up late of course and caught up with them by the fourth hole. PACE of play was OK. Not quick just somewhat steady. Twosome in front was held up by foursome in front of them.

Tee boxes some of them are unlevel. Took a bit to find level spot but definitely possible. Fairways in decent shape for time of year -- a little thin in spots but very playable. Rough is cut to the same height (approximately) as fairway so not really an issue. Sand in bunkers look soft but really hard pan underneath thin layer of sand. Greens are in very good shape. Folks please fix your divots and one other. This is perhaps the best part of the course. Green complexes are in very good shape. I would rate speed as fast and can hold line just be mindful your ball will bounce a little bit.

Aside from that decent course conditions for time of year. Fun little course that offers challenging tee shots. Play here again? Sure. It's short. It's fun and great play to work on the ole short game with some decently longish holes to keep your attention.

Enjoyed a nice afternoon round at Westlake today with GKers ringworld, mattias and JohnnyGK. The pace was pretty slow on a busy day, but we kept ourselves entertained. The course was in winter shape, so most of the grass is dormant. A lot of soft spots throughout and the rough was pretty much shaved down to the same height as fairways, so it wasn't much of a factor. They are definitely having coot problems right now, with lots of "evidence" left everywhere. A few tee boxes could use some leveling out, but I generally found a good enough spot to tee it up. The greens were rolling at medium speeds and they just didn't break as much as I read into them. I kept telling myself to hit it firm and straight, but rarely did! Westlake is always a fun executive course and a pretty good confidence boost, though there are a few longer holes and most of the par-3s are relatively tough. Today was all about enjoying the company with my fellow GKers, so that's what mattered most!
