My wife and I played Sidewinder and Dinosaur at Gold Canyon Resort east of Phoenix. We found the Dinosaur course to be the more challenging due to the hilly terrain. Between the two we found Dinosaur to be in better shape. While Sidewinder is basically flat Dinosaur climbs up and down Dinosaur mountain. Sidewinder dances in between a lot of houses. Dinosaur dances in between hills, rocks, and cacti. Just about every hole deals with elevation changes. A lot of fun tee shots from way above the holes. Be careful with the tee shot on 15. It is not as far as it looks. I saw two golfers get close to homes at the far end of the fairway. I put it in the fairway with a 2 wood hybrid. Many of the greens are very protected by sand traps (and you can not see them all from the fairway). There is a long cart tunnel on the course which is rather interesting. The scenic views are breathtaking. A course that you must do at least once in your lifetime.

Played Dinosaur on 7/17/09 as part of a "Play 36 with lunch" special. Phenomonal views on this course. The tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. It's a resort course, so the landing areas are generous. There are a lot of elevation changes as you play up, through, and around the Superstition Mountains. The greens were fast, and had quite a few bare spots, which is not out of the norm for Phoenix courses in the dead of summer. They did roll pretty true, and has some serious undulation on them. There are no water stations, so you have to take plenty of fluids with you and rely on the cart girls for replenishment. I liked this course a lot, and will definately make plans to play it again in cooler temperatures. The customer service was first-rate. Well worth the drive to the east Valley to play.

Played 12-21-2008. Course was in great shape. Cart path only till Christmas like a lot of resort courses here. Number 3 one of my favorite par fives. Some of the holes come off the mountain on the new nine. But most of the course is in the mountains. You have to chase the deer off at times. Always rated one of the best courses in AZ.

played on 7-4-08, The course is on a mountain side, so lots of sloping fairways and elavated tees. The views are beautiful, bring a camera. Paid only $50.00, can't beat the summer rates, normally $150+. Pace was good, but the par 3 does get back up a bit. One of the most difficult course i have played on, but can't wait to play again.

Played Gold Canyon Dinosaur on 3/24/07. The course is in great shape. I hate to think that these greens may be the best I'll play all year long - and this is my first of the year! Great layout and views. Played the Sidewinder course the same day for half price. Sidewinder is not as spectacular as Dinosaur and maybe a step down on conditioning, but is still enjoyable. Great staff also.....a must visit when in the PHX area.
