Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Although the course is essentially "as flat as a pancake", a great deal of thought went into the design. Many interesting holes, particularly the par 5's which require some thought on the second shot. The greens are quite fast. Watch out for the afternoon wind.
Played 5/26. The course is excellent condition. The greens are in top shape. I last played the course before the RTJ redesign. I noticed that he opened up the driving areas on a few holes - a nice improvement I think. He also worked on the drainage apparently. No soggy fairways!
Played 6/9. The course is in great shape! However, a number of the greens are oddly bumpy. Possibly due to poor drainage or over-watering.
Played 6/10. The course is in excellent shape. The ninth hole, a previously challenging dogleg left par 4, was recently shortened from 440 yards to 340 yards. This was done due to players pelting an adjacent house trying to cut the corner of the dogleg. However, the green is probably drivable now - if you cut the corner.
Played the Raven on 3/26/07. Interesting layout. Visually, quite different than other courses in the PHX area (including the Legacy course across the street) due to the many pine trees. Rolling layout with many great driving holes with fairway bunkers coming into play. Good par 3's and 5's as well. This course is well maintained. The greens were excellent and consistant but possibly a very slight step below Legacy and Gold Canyon Dinosaur. Excellent staff as well. A must stop when in PHX.
Played Legacy on 3/25/07. Very nice and playable layout. Many good driving holes with fairway bunkers coming into play. Great greens. The staff is top notch! Good food in the clubhouse too! Bunker playability hit and miss though.
Played Gold Canyon Dinosaur on 3/24/07. The course is in great shape. I hate to think that these greens may be the best I'll play all year long - and this is my first of the year! Great layout and views. Played the Sidewinder course the same day for half price. Sidewinder is not as spectacular as Dinosaur and maybe a step down on conditioning, but is still enjoyable. Great staff also.....a must visit when in the PHX area.
