Played 2/20. $79 to play, included range balls. 10:24 tee time. 50 degrees no frost delay. Played with a friend visiting from out of town. The pine is a reasonably flat tree-lined course. It's not overly difficult, but it does play tough from the tips. It's used as the course for the Phoenix Open Monday Qualifier.

The course was very busy and in fair condition over all. Greens were good but had lots of ball marks. They were medium - fast around 10.5. Fairways were OK. Many had a lot of divot damage. The rough was poor. It was dormant bermuda that they scalped down to the dirt. It gave you a hard pan thin lie most of the time. Sand was good. Tee boxes were nice and level, but many had divot damage from all the rounds that are played here.

The practice range is small for a place that has 2 courses. The grass to hit off of is mostly gone by 11am. I see they put in some rubber mats. I thought the carts they used needed replacing. The GPS was put in as an after thought. It didn't seem to work right. Have a range finder as back up. Also, no wind screen on the cart. Beverage cart came by twice. Outside service was nice and attentive. POP was 4 1/2 hours. Currently, I wouldn't recommend playing here. There are other better options in Scottsdale.

I just moved nearby and have had a few great rounds here. Really enjoy having McCormick as relief against the big-dollar Scottsdale desert courses in the winter. This an excellent parkland-style tournament course and has beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Conditions are usually great. McCormick also has one of the only public grass ranges in the area and is a great bargain for practice. If you add in the value and convenience you have a perfect course for locals. The Pine course is my favorite of the two because the holes are slightly more memorable and feel more isolated. The Palm course feels a little bit like you're in Florida at times, but is also a fun course to play and is a nice break from all the desert courses around here. I always have a really pleasant time playing in this area, same with nearby Talking Stick -- there's something very relaxing about this part of the valley with all the surrounding mountains. The Pine's back 9 in particular opens up onto the more isolated and scenic north side of the property. The course itself is moderately challenging. Pace of play is usually about 4-4.5 hours. Could use a little more diversity in tee options (there's a huge distance gap between the tournament tees and the next shortest). Greens are relatively straightforward but play harder than they look. This week they were rolling extremely fast and it added 5+ shots to my score. The course was starting to brown for re-seeding and was playing really fast all around. I wouldn't recommend this course to someone coming to Scottsdale to play a bucket-list desert course. But, it is an awesome parkland-style course and an incredible value, so I would generally recommend it to anyone with the above caveat. Definitely in my top 3 for local spots.

Received a freebie round at McCormick and teed off around 11 Friday the 10th. The course is located in the middle of the Scottsdale green belt with resorts around the area making it popular with the captive snowbird audience. Not a lot of play going on this morning with the heat and humidity. I had a horrible experience here years ago and have never played since but a free round is a free round.
Bag attendants were very busy with their phones and were unable to greet or assist us with finding a cart. Check in at the shop was quick. Driving range was ok. Range balls were hard as rocks.
The course was in very good summer conditions. Recent storms have given the area a lot of rain. Fairways were in very good shape with almost no bare spots. Not much roll on drives with what seemed like sticky grass. Greens were all consistent with very few ball marks. They accepted shots and chips very well. Tee boxes were level. Most of the sand traps and bunkers were full of water and unplayable.
I would like to have seen either another set of tee boxes or some form of a combo tee set up as the tips were almost 800 yards longer than the next set of tees.
Overall not a real exciting course to play but conditions are very good right now.

I played the Pine course today and the greens were in horrific shape for $85, I know it is winter everywhere else but the putting green should always reflect the greens on the course and that is not the case. The greens were pitted all over, bumpy and a complete lottery even if you hit it on line. I asked the staff after the round and they said it is due to over play, but I call BS on that as in every part of the green there are what looks to be punch marks that the course should have alerted players to or at least rolled them a little better, very disappointing. My money is heading somewhere else in the future, not back there.

The course is in great shape, greens rolling so true. Had our seaon ending event for 2012 on Dec 8. Playing this course from the tips will test you on every shot. I would tell every golfer that thinks he or she is a above average golfer to play the Pine course it will test you, and you will be more than satisfied.

Played April 5. Course was in very good shape. Greens very nice, made a lot of puts. Had to, in the trees all day. I like this course better than the Palm. The Palm has that great number 9 hole, but 15 on Pine is almost as good. Plus there are many better holes on the Pine front 9 than on Palm. Pine also has added back tees for college teams.
