I played Crooked Tree early this morning for the first time and really enjoyed it. Good routing for walking, for which I paid $46. All the tees are close to the preceding greens, the only "long" walk is maybe 200 yards from #9 green to #10 tee. The yardage from the middle tees set up well for my game. The layout has a "core" routing, and is located in the middle of a county park with no houses surrounding the course.

Greens were in excellent condition, speed "average", about what you would expect at a "value" course. They did a good overseed job this year on the fairway and especially on the green surrounds. 

The main negative would be the bunkers. They had sand in them, were fine to hit out of, but were all full of a ridiculous amount of stones, most the size of coins. Probably the worst I've ever seen anywhere in that regard. It was like the sand wasn't run through any kind of "sifter" before it was installed. A very minor secondary negative would be that a few of the tees were severely unlevel.

Finished in 3:45 playing with 3 nice randoms with not much waiting. I booked about a week in advance and had no trouble getting a tee time around my preferred time.

I'd definitely play it again.

Played the Blacks (7062/72.2/132) as a single mid day. The weather was clear and in the low 100's. The POP was great, I played in slightly less than 3H. The layout here has enough variety to keep things interesting. Good mixture of tee options every few hundred yards, which I find to be a plus. The tips require multiple forced carries over deserts cape, if you were playing forward tees there would be few forced carries. The Bermuda tees were mostly lush with few unfixed divots. A few were humpbacked, but you could find level lies. The Bermuda fairways were lush and were cut long in the heat, which produced little roll. The Bermuda rough was a mostly lush with occasional hardpan close to the fairway. The rough around the greens is mowed down which makes for easier chipping. The farther you were from the fairway, the greater chance you were playing on hardpan or just sand like a large waste bunker. The sand traps are pretty basic here, fairly flat with no large lips. However, they are not well maintained, crusty and mostly hard. The Bermuda green complexes do not have alot of slope or tiers. They gently slope from back to front. They are relatively small for a course this length, firm and consistently putted slow. However, they rolled relatively smooth for Bermuda greens. The customer service was excellent. Quick efficient check-in, and the friendly & courteous drink cart gal came by several times. For a municipal course, this is a good track, good mid level value course. A downside is that the carts do not have GPS and the course is not particularly well marked for yardages. Recommended = yes.

Played the Blacks (7062/72.2/132) as a single mid day for $26 that included a cart. The weather was partly cloudy, humid and around 100. Probably because of that, the POP was great, I whizzed around in less than 3H. My 1st time here, traditional desert layout. I was told that they stretched the course out by adding Black tees several years ago. Their black tees remind me of Camarillo Springs in So Cal where some of them are well off the beaten path. Several were tucked way back in places that created challenging sight lines with forced carries well off the original course. I felt like the course plays shorter than slightly over 7000 yards overall. However, the 485 yard par 4 and 252 yard par 3 still played LONG even in the desert heat and the ball flying farther than normal. Playing into a 1 club wind, 1st time I have hit Driver on a par 3 in a long time. The Bermuda tees were mostly lush with few unfixed divots. A few were humpbacked, but you could find level lies. Luckily, all are flat with no or small lips, because they are crusty dirt, no real sand there. The green complexes are relatively small for a course this length and do not have alot of slope or tiers. They gently slope from back to front and are Bermuda. While they were in decent shape, firm and consistent from green to green... they putt SLOW. However, once I got the speed down, I made some putts, they rolled relatively smooth for Bermuda greens. The customer service was excellent. Quick efficient check-in, and the drink cart came by several times, friendly & courteous. The layout was good with enough variety to keep things interesting. Good variety of tees after their redesign, the tips require multiple forced carries over deserts cape, if you were playing forward tees there would be few forced carries. For a muni, this is a good course, definitely an excellent value @ $26 with a cart on a weekend. Recommended = yes.

2nd 18 of the day on 3/30/16. This is a great public course. Wonderful layout and maintained very well. It won't blow your socks off, but the twilight price (with cart) will. Great service at check in. Played with a couple of young locals and it was dejavu of when I was young and could kill it (and kill it they did). Designed by Trevino most likely many years ago, but it has character and charm (like old designs should). Fairways were green and manicured and provided great roll. Tee boxes level/clean (what more do you want). Rough was desert again, with a lot of water to avoid. Greens (small) and great to putt on, with lots of undulations. I truly enjoyed this little gem and would not hesitate to play it again, if back in the area.

This was the first time I've played this course and will definitely return. The layout is very forgiving, but for people willing to take some risks, there are a lot of course management opportunities. If you want to get some extra yards and make nice angles to the green, this course plays more difficult, as I would assume Lee Travino saw in building this course. The safest shots in many of these wide open fairways, bring bunkers into play that surround the green. Having slacked on playing regularly for many years, this was a great setup to calibrate decision making and hit a variety of shots. The rough was impressive, having not seen much in the area. It was a little bumpy in places if you miss the fairway, but the grass is plenty consistent and will offer some good lies. Fairways were great and definitely sped up as the day moved on after our 10:30am start. The sand, while firm and demanded some technical skill, was also surprisingly consistent. The greens were smooth and offered good responsiveness to shots spun into them. Fun course with some great turns getting home

I played Crooked Tree on Saturday, August 18. We drove down the Queen Creek area as our tee time was at 7am. I was pleasantly surprised with the driving range and practice facility. The putting green and chipping green were expansive, and very well maintained. The pace of play was pretty good, but could have been a bit faster. The course was in good shape for August in Arizona, with nice fairways, and tough rough. The greens rolled very true, and the bunkers were kept in good shape.

Course was in mucah better shape than when I played it last year. Tee boxes were beat up a little but the fairways weregood and the greens wer really nice but a bit slow. Roughs were easy to hit from as they wer dry and brown. Pace of play was great; we finished in 4:15 hrs.
