A parklandish flat local's course: 5,300 yards par 69. A list crosseroffer for sure, however course was in decent Muni shape. Greens rolled nice at medium speed and the traps had some of the best sand I've played in all year. (go figure) Saturday 1:00 tee time $14 to walk and a
3 1/2 pace of play made it worth a stop for me.

Even though the long round at Riverside wore me out, I still wanted to try squeezing in another round yesterday. I called over to Airways and they said it was pretty wide open. It sure was. There were a few scattered players on the course. I had to play through a few and I also jumped around a bit to play open holes and avoid the other players. Ultimately, I got through all 18 holes in about 1:45 in full-on rush mode. The price was $17 with a cart. The conditions at Airways are as forgettable as the course itself. The tee boxes were pretty firm, but I was able to tee up the ball fine enough. The fairways were generally okay at best, getting better the closer you got to the greens. Firm with lots of roll-out and tight lies to hit from. There really isn't much in the form of rough here. Once you are off the fairways, it's primarily just dirt and weeds. I will say that around the greens, the grass is grown in pretty nicely and it is generally well-kept, so it's obvious they focus more effort on the turf in these areas. I was in one bunker and it was a tad thin. The greens were actually very nice. Soft and rolling smooth at medium speeds. I'd say the greens were actually nicer here than at Riverside, though everything else was a clear notch or two down. The layout is very basic and most holes are fairly wide open from tee to green. The first hole is one of the more funky openers I've ever played. It's kind of a split fairway with trees running up the center, though you would not think that while standing on the tee. Otherwise, there's not much to see. The course, as the name would suggest, is right next to the airport, so you do get some entertainment from planes taking off and landing. A military fighter jet took off when I was right by the runway and it was absolutely deafening. Overall, the clear comparison I would make for Airways is the Miramar base course down in San Diego. On all levels, this course reminded me so much of that one. That's not a good thing.

Since I moved to a side of town, my course selection is now limited. Airways is about 5 minutes from my house. It was late in the day, and paid 16.50 I believe, to walk. This course is an interesting one. The fairways are pretty dry, despite having some rain in the few days leading up to playing. But typically, this course is dry as a bone, and you think you hit a good shot in the fairway, it has the potential to run another 30-40 yards down the fairway, or off the fairway into the rough, which typically is just dirt. But right now there are a lot of weeds growing up around the course. So if you don't stick one in the fairway, you have a chance to be hitting an awkward shot out of the rough. Another interesting piece to this course is there is so many roots that are exposed from the countless of trees that line the course.

Now talking strictly about the course, the course is interesting with it only being a Par 69. The first hole is a tight dogleg left, which if you can hit your drive high, you can potentially fly the dogleg and leave yourself a short wedge in. But only catch is, for most of this course, there can be a tendency to leave yourself under branches and not being able to flight the ball like you might like, so sometimes a punch out is needed. 2 is a straight forward hole. The one hole that always seems to cause me trouble is the Par 4 3rd. This whole is a dog leg left but with this hole. If you play it straight you are in the trees right or in the dirt. If you hit it up the left side you run the risk of putting it in the trees left or in the weeds. The next few holes are straight forward, nothing special. But the last two holes on the front are quite interesting. The 8th is one of two Par 5s on the course. It is a double dogleg, first moving left then right. Par here is a good score. The Par 3 9th, is probably one of the longest Par 3s in Fresno. On the card I believe it is 224 yards and when they put the pin in the back its about 235 or so. But the back plays fairly straight forward. Couple drivable greens back to back on 12 and 13. 14 is in interesting hole, its another hole if you play it straight theres a good chance of running into the tree right. If you can hit a nice high draw you can be in pretty good shape. If you go right, you are OB and on Clovis Ave. practically. 17 is a hole that you can play two different ways, you can hit something that can clear the tree branches that over hang practically the entire fairway, or hit an iron to a good yardage, just don't go long which is OB. 18 is a trick hole with OB running the entire right side of the hole.

The bunkers are in actually good shape, probably better than some of the courses around Fresno. But the best part of this entire course is the greens, these greens don't really have much wear on them, not many ball marks either. The biggest downside of playing this course, is the people, a lot of people go out here and hack around and don't understand the etiquette of golf. I've been hit into, I've had players on other holes just come out onto our fairway to find their ball. I've been stuck behind a 5some when playing by myself and rarely have been waved up or through. Def. will make the drive around Fresno to play other courses.

Not much rough here mostly just dirt from edge of fairways to under the tree's. Greens where soft and slow but rolled real smooth. Short parkland style course with narrow tree lined fairways.

Funny course. Short par 69, 5,400 yards, but pretty tricky. Narrow fairways, big trees, dead grass fairways, and dirt rough...again, no grass in the rough, just dirt lol. It almost plays links stylie (plus trees) because every shot in the fairway or rough, rolls for days. The greens are small, tricky, but REALLY WELL KEPT, especially considering how the rest of the course looks. Surprisingly tough course for me, but kinda fun...shot a 90 on a par 69 lol. $26 riding rate on a Friday.

My foursome plays Airways regularly. If you haven't played Airways lately, you're missing out. This muni course is in fantastic shape and the green fees are crazy cheap. Airways recently had a major tree trimming throughout and the results were stunning. Sunlight now lights up many of their well maintained fairways. Admittedly, Airways is not a challenging course, lacking water hazards or fairway bunkers. The greens are smallish and well protected with strategic sand bunkers. This is a good choice for a quick, fun, round of golf on a well maintained course.

Not much to say about the course. Small greens, short Par 69 that's easy to walk. But WATCH OUT for the area. Tweekers and Crackheads lay in wake for you to tee off knowing that you will be on the course far away for hours. In the meantime they are vandalizing and breaking in vehicles. So this Par 69 cost me about $700 to play. So until they decide to care about their clients by either installing cameras or hiring security, we will not be back.

Average course for where it is and who plays it. Nothing like playing inside chain link. A lot of rounds are played on it and it shows. My problem is more with the staff. All called out about getting in a round one afternoon and was told to just come on out. When I showed up, they were on all temporary greens and were having a high school tournament. You'd think they would let people know at least one of the two.
