I was disappointed in the conditions today. This site said they aerated over a week ago, and one of the locals I played with said he had heard the same, but there was heavy sand on the greens. Hard to believe they were not aerated this week. Otherwise, the fairways were dormant and did not look like they were getting enough water. There were not any bare areas though. Around the greens it looked like rye grass and those areas were lush except they had been punched as well. The sand traps had a ton of rocks in them although I was mainly in fairway bunkers. The tee boxes were good. I love the layout and in the past the conditions have been superior. Not so much this time.

This is links style course. First time there for me. Helps to know course as there are unknown/unseen hazards. Pot bunker in front of #2 green is something else, unseen from fairway. Wasn't enamored with it at first, but it grew on me. Some very interesting holes. A few risk/reward holes, especially #18. Similar to British golf. Can be penal. Grass and sand bunkers. Some holes you hit to an elevated green. If you have the nerve, tee it up from the tips on the par-3 7th, 202 yards over water and you must carry it 185 to stay dry. Grass range. Course wasn't in the best of condition, but I liked it. Fast greens.

I do not understand why I would be the only Greenskeeper poster playing this course, unless the regulars are trying to not let the word get around. I played Saturday, walked on and was on the course immediately after hitting part of a bucket of balls. Interesting layout on the track. The regulars I played with said the greens were faster than they had been. They were perfect - medium fast. The fairways were great. Looked like Bermuda to me with the ball sitting up nicely. The rough was hit and miss. it mainly looked like dormant Bermuda which would be strange considering the heat. The sand was lousy the two times I was in it. Overall, an outstanding golf experience. I am only sad I play here once a year. Also, a $20 off internet couponon the website (just show it on your phone) meant I paid $55 with cart instead of the $75 rack rate. Nice!

Absolutely great golf experience. Played early today and the course was very wet. That was the only negative. I liked the grass in the fairways and the rough was a factor at times. An interesting design. Local knowledge is a plus. I really liked the way the back nine plays around the oak trees. While visually intimidating at times, a well placed shot is usually rewarded. The greens were very firm but rolled fast and true. The staff was friendly. Played in a little over 4 hours.

Played on Memorial Day 5/26. I have played this course dozens of times and I can't quite recall the course being in this bad of shape for this time of year. Usually this course is immaculate during late spring/early summer but I found it to be just OK. The fairways were decent with a fair amount of brown spots and the greens were very receptive but a bit slower than usual and a tad bumpy. If I weren't so familiar with the course I would be giving it a much better review but I have come to expect very good conditions from Riverbend especially since they are charging $75 per round on Saturdays and holidays. It is still the best test of golf as far as public courses in the Fresno area go and definitely one of the best public courses in the central/south valley. I would recommend it if you haven't played it before.

Very challenging course, Locals like to get behind and push.. Even though we were waiting on the group in front of us we were hit into 3 times and yelled at twice. Driving over their ball seemed to solve the problem. This is a very tough course do not stray from the fairway EVER. if you do, better hit a provisional.. its gone!

greens lightning fast and smooth...just after Savemart shootout tourney....nice test even from blue tees,......highly recommended and worth the rate....

Great test from the tips. Local knowledge is a must to shoot good scores. As much fun as you can find in the valley.
