There were not many reviews of the course so my experience may be unusual. My playing partner has played this a few times before and it was always in impeccable shape. Our experience was far from it. Apparently they had an issue with the irrigation, and that resulted in it being far from lush, with significant dry spots and greens heavily sanded, although there was no mention or indication that they had recently been aerated. Some greens were borderline unplayable. When we mentioned the course conditions to the gentleman in the pro shop after the round he seemed unconcerned and dismissive, a very un-Troon like response.

That said, if the course was in the shape we expected, it would be a very good find. I don't know if we paid full fare to play it or if rates were discounted to reflect the conditions, but if the course was in good shape it'd be worth up to $100, maybe more. It's about a half hour drive from Kaanapali so it's a little out of the way, but would be worth the drive. Closer courses are closer to $200, and from the looks of things are probably not as nice as Kahili. The layout is interesting, with no houses anywhere near the course. POP was not a problem, perhaps due to the conditions.

I'd consider playing it again, but would call ahead to see what shape it's in before deciding to play.

Tried to find a less expensive course, but was still $100 for a morning round. Hoping to get in before the trade winds picked up too much. The front 9 seems to play mostly into the wind with many up hill holes. Course can play longer then stated depending on wind.
Fairways mostly olive green. Reminded me of SoCal fairways. Many browned out or dead patches scattered about but never caused me any issues. They were firm with good role, but still nice to hit from.
Rough in good shape. Fluffy Bermuda.
Greens definitely the low spot of the course conditions. Many sick areas covering most greens. Very firm and dry looking. Ran at a good pace of medium fast. Appeared they had dyed them sometime in the past.

After doing a lot of research to find a solid, economical option for golf in Maui, I decided to try out the Kahili track. I received many recommendations from frequent Maui travelers to play this course so when I found a $59 rate, it was a no brainer. I wanted to avoid the winds so I booked a 6:46am tee time on 04/24. The course sits alongside the west Maui mountains and offers numerous spectacular ocean and mountain views. It's a very nice facility equipped with a driving range, practice putting greens, and a nice restaurant. The course sits below the private King Kamehameha course which is located up the mountain a ways. I imagine the views from that course to be even more outstanding but I suppose that's for another time. The layout of Kahili is fun. There were some straight forward holes but plenty of doglegs and a couple of elevation changes. It's a short course and fairly forgiving as the fairways are generous enough to pull out big dawg regularly. As for the course conditions, all parts of the course were well maintained. The tee boxes were level and good sized. The difference between the white and blue tees were substantial on many holes. The one thing I noticed about this course was how significant the grain affected putts. I played with a former Q school pro who helped me a lot with reading the greens. They didn't have a cart girl coming around since we were off so early and there was some needless confusion to start the round but all in all, I had a fun experience and would definitely recommend playing this course.

Played August 9th. This course is on the side of the mountain as you fly into Maui. It is right in the valley and well the wind blows. First impressions are fantastic. Full complete warm up facility. Great friendly staff. Once again went out as 5 and we had another 5 in front of us. We waited almost every hole. However we paid $250 for 5 golfers at 9:30 in the morning so who cares. A marshall would have been nice but once again the rice point was too good to pass up. I truy loved the course and this will be on my list to return to. New carts, great greens and an overall nice track. The course winds through the mountain, up, down and across. We had a 2 plus club into our face on some and 350 yard drives on par fives. You had to think your way around or come up with a big number on a hole. bridies were rare as there was always wind on your approach. We contnued our 3 team hawaiian open skins game format and found that we had any carry overs making the course even more fun. If you go you will have to factor wind and elevation changes on everyshot. Go play it the course is fun and the price is great.

They had a 59.00 dollar weekend special, No better deal on the island , I think there regular book rate is 79.00 still is a great price at that. they keep this place in great condition year round and yes it can get windy here but such is golf in Maui. The restaurant also has good food good service and reasonably priced. I cant say enough good things about this place.
