This was the first round of my Tahoe trip this morning with ppark81. We had a 7:00 tee time (first off) and the staff was super nice. Really just us and one other twosome ready to go that early. Unfortunately, it was kind of weird that they also sent the maintenance guys out on the course to mow the greens right at 7:00 and we were asked not to push them too much. We watched as the poor guy frantically mowed the 1st green with a small push mower, and I should mention that the greens here are massive and undulated like crazy. We felt bad for him and there were a couple other guys out on the course ahead. Eventually they started to jump around and we didn't run into them too much after awhile. It was just strange they wait until the first tee time to start the mowing of the gigantic greens and then do them in the slowest way possible! Otherwise, we REALLY enjoyed ourselves and still finished with a good 3:15 pace. The price we got was great with the GolfMoose voucher minus a gift certificate won at a GK Plays. Ended up being $87 each compared to the normal weekend morning rack rate of $175 during this shoulder season. The course was in good overall condition considering it's still pretty early in the season for Truckee's mountain courses and the summer turf is really just coming in. Tee boxes, fairways and rough were mostly pretty good with some fluffy spots, some thin spots and some patchy areas. Not pristine, but pretty nice. Bunkers had great soft sand but could use a little professional raking/dragging to level out a lot of lumpy spots, animal footprints, etc. The greens were kind of the same story as the fairways. Still a little patchy, but holding shots well in the morning and rolling at medium speeds with a few little bumps here and there. In another month, I can imagine this place is super nice. As for the layout, I fell in love with this place from the moment we pulled into the parking lot. I love mountain courses and this is mountain golf to the max. Tight, hilly and demanding, but not unfair in any way. Good scores can be had on any hole with proper strategy/execution. There are tons of trees and big boulder outcroppings, which are often integrated with some of the elaborate bunkering. The greens are huge and full of significant undulations. It's simply a stunning setting for a golf course. The long, skinny and diagonal 3-tiered 18th green is something to behold in person and it's pretty much the first thing you see when you drop your clubs off with the cart staff. Speaking of the staff, great service all around, especially the starter who was very friendly and helpful as we waited to tee off. I'd like to see their early morning maintenance plan handled better, though! That was the only minor blemish on an otherwise awesome golf experience at Coyote Moon!

Played Coyote Moon, NCGA rate of 135$ including cart for a prime time 9:30AM tee time. Again, when playing at home these rates are well above what I'm willing to pay but when on vacation I really want to experience the best golf in the area.

After playing Schaffer's Mill earlier in the week, the bar was set high. Coyote delivered equally superb conditions (except the sand traps) and we really enjoyed our round here. Coyote moon is truly a "mountain" course. 0 homes, 0 highways, an abundance of pine trees, and plenty of elevation changes throughout. Visually, this course is stunning. Striped double mown fairways and dramatic contouring. A great mix of par 4's, 5's and 3's. The course never felt boring.

Tee boxes, fairways and greens were excellent. Greens were a bit quicker than shaffer's mill. I want to say rolling around 11.5. All putts held their lines and rolled true. This course can be quite tricky. Local knowledge goes a long way here, as there are several blind tee shots over/around mountain bends. The one negative I had was all 3 bunkers I was in were in poor shape, including many larger rocks/pebbles, that definitely affected playability. I would highly recommend this course to anyone in the Tahoe/truckee region. One of the more natural and beautiful courses I've played.

NOTE, there isn't a driving range, only a warm up net but this didn't bother us at all. I would say this is certainly a must play public course in the area!

Played here today, 7/17/12. A little windy at first, 10-14mph winds, but then the winds died and it was a perfect day.

CM does not have a driving range. You can either use their warm up station which is 4 mats hitting into a net about 20-25 yards away. This let me warm up a little. Other option is to go to Tahoe Donner and us their range.

Course layout is great and challenging! Fairways were in good shape and the greens were rolling good. They just verticut them and top dressed them with a little sand but they still rolled true. Greens weren't in perfect or prefect shape due to the low snow they had this winter. The snow protects the greens over the winter and this didn't happen this past winter so they weren't in immaculate shape but still good. I played a good round (77) and had a great time.

I would definitely play out there again, but we were able to get on for a great rate at 11am in the morning.

This was day 2 of the Tahoe golf trip. Coyote Moon is beautiful and has lots of interesting holes. The par 3's may have been a let down (I'll get back to #13 in a moment), but that's because we chose the wrong tee boxes. We were playing the white @ 6,211 yards, but should have gone blue at 6,704. That would have made the par 3's longer and a bit more attractive. Plus, the ball carries further at this elevation. Our mistake. Hole #13 is their signature hole and has a gigantic drop to the green. I'm not sure of the distance (would guess 100 feet??) but it's just ridiculous. The hole is popular, but to me it's like a coffee table book. It's interesting to look at, but not a good read. Overall, spectacular conditions, beautiful setting, expert management, good design, relaxing pace, good cart service, good 19th hole and a "bounce back" discount for next round. At $149 it's not your daily track, though courses in Tahoe are seasonal and high fees are not unusual. This one certainly is on a par with Edgewood Tahoe (better for value, though Edgewood has the best 19th hole bar none) I would go back to Coyote Moon again anytime.

Played 7-29-11. teed off at 8:20 and finished 12:40. Good pace of play and this was an awesome golf club. The course is in perfect condition. fairways a little wet but perfectly mowed. The tees were all level and very nice. Fairways were green and mowed in stripes. The greens were the highlight of the day, rolled about 10.5 and perfectly smooth. Down hill putts were very very fast, and all lines held true. before the round began I saw them cutting their greens on foot with a hand mower which is always a good sign. This course from tee to green was better that northstar (course i played 2 days earlier). Awesome golf experience and conditions couldnt have been better. Shot a 78, if you stay in the fairway low scores can be made.

If you have the chance, and the $$$, Coyote Moon should be on your list of mountain courses to play during their season. NCGA offers some pretty good discounts off the rack rate, so if you're able, you can take advantage of that. This course is in fantastic shape from tee box to green and the staff treats you like they appreciate your business. I only have two knocks about Coyote Moon: (1) Lack of a driving range...they have a 4 station tee box where you hit into a net, which for me, only leads to a so-so evaluation of what I think of the shot. But upon looking around, they really don't have any room for one as as the property drops sharply on the south & western flanks and the rest of their area is taken up by the course itself. (2) The lack of hole and/or course layout on the scorecard...you can purchase a yardage book for about $4, but it would be nice to be able to see the hole shape & routing on the card. If you decide to play there, do yourself a favor and review their website for hole details ahead of time.

Played 8/13/10 with the NCGA $25 discount for $120. This course is highly touted as one of the 10 best in California and it lives up to its reputation. Every hole is scenic, and challenging. Tee shots are nicely framed against heavy pine forests and mountain views. They seem to like a lone tree in the fairway about 270 out at the corner. The greens are firm and fast but I'm afraid that the bent grass is being invaded by Poa Annua. There's light green dollar sized patches of Poa Annua scattered amongst the dark green bent grass which unfortunately makes the ball bounce as it rolls. I don't know that there's much that can be done about it though. The staff were all very attentive, especially the food and bev folks. I think it's chincy that they charge $4 for a yardage book...seems like a resort course should include all that stuff in the green fee. Its not so much the cost as it is the hassle when you realize you don't have a yardage book and have to run back to the proshop to get one. I would definately include CM in any Tahoe golf plans.

Get a yardage book prior to tee off-came in handy!! We were not told of greens sanding before starting and were 'slightly' dissapointed when on the first green, but the layout and remainder of the round was a highlight. Good course presentation, tees need attention, fairways good but some areas over watered, rough good and lush, sand good all around, greens were fine, but will improve by ?mid August.
Very challenging layout and fun design, pace a bit dragged but lots of golfers enjoying the amazing vistas throughout.

Played on August 1st and the course was in great shape, no complaints.
