Finally checked Edgewood off the bucket list this morning, and it was worth every bit of the wait. Definitely expensive at $220 rack for a Saturday morning tee time. One annoying thing that happened was we booked our tee time 60 days in advance and reserved the 7:00 "first time" out on purpose. However, we found out as our play date came closer that they sometimes add earlier times based on demand. We were able to move our tee time up to 6:36 during the week, and we ended up second out behind a threesome of members. Otherwise, day-of service was great. They really don't want morning rabbits out here anyway because of their high maintenance crew standards, so we enjoyed the relaxed pace behind the other group and it was just fine because I was taking a ton of pictures. Around 3:45 pace on a beautiful clear (though fairly windy by the end of the round) morning. Conditions were spectacular, even in this shoulder season. This place is just so nice. Thee tee boxes are great. The fairways are excellent. The rough was maybe a little inconsistent in terms of length/lushness, but still really good throughout. The bunkers were crazy nice with super soft white sand that was perfectly maintained for us early groups. Then, there were the greens. Pro-quality is all I can say. Firm, super fast and true as true can be. Very demanding green complexes and probably 2/3 of the pin locations were in the back this morning for some reason, so that made for some very intimidating approaches over the deep bunkers. Other than the slight scheduling issues, I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this experience. Beautiful course with such a scenic setting on the shore of Lake Tahoe. 16-18 is an incredible finishing stretch as you may know if you watch the annual celebrity tournament every year. They were actually starting to put up the grandstands around the signature par-3 17th as we played. Course has some mountain golf elements, though there aren't any huge changes in elevation. Then, there are some meadow golf elements. A lot of big water hazards, plenty of trees and deep native rough areas lining most holes. Very challenging, beautiful and lived up to my "bucket list" status.

Played 8/25 as a part of my bachelor party trip, and what a way to start the weekend. I had read plenty on the beauty of this course and watching the Pro-Am backed up what I read, but reading and watching do not do this course any justice. If you're ever in the south lake area, you need to play this course. Not only is it beautiful, it challenges you on nearly every hole.

We played the combo tees and teed off at 2:00pm. The starter Paul was helpful with how to play the greens, basically don't be above them, and told us that the lake doesn't have a big effect on putts like an ocean does. Find your line, hit it, and it'll go in. Greens were running at about 11.5, and the only "knock" on them was that they were bumpy towards the end of the round, but only because of foot traffic and nothing else. Greens held well-hit shots, providing plenty of spin off wedges and shorter irons, which surprised me considering how hard they were.

Fairways were lush, providing great lies throughout with not one brown spot to be seen.

Rough was thick around the greens, making getting the ball close a chore regardless of where you hit from.

Tee boxes were great, with plenty of grass coverage on par 3s and level lies throughout.

Traps were great, a real pleasure to hit from. Fairway traps were a little soft, but the one I played out of had been in the shade so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with how the sand played.

We saw the cart girl twice, which was enough considering their prices.

Again, I can't stress enough how amazing this course is. Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth every dime. I will most definitely be returning and playing this course again.

Played Edgewood Tahoe on Saturday, September 3rd. 10:00 AM Tee time. Upon arrival we were greeted by the lot attendant who valet'd our bags and got them to the driving range which is about 50 yards away. Check in was in the main clubhouse and very smooth. Easy to get carried away with the amount of gear and accessories they have available. Bloody Mary's to go from Brooks Bar & Grill were delicious, had a very appetizing looking breakfast buffet available.

Weather: Low 50's, high humidity, winds calm, mix of blue and clouds. Not cold but not warm.

Driving range: Clean, green, no mats, very little divots. Range balls are included with the fee. Adirondack chairs and tables and bag stands. Starter working the range. Lake Tahoe is about 60 yards away, just on the other side of the 18th green.

Starter greets you at your cart, gives you some basic directions. and gets you off. Played the blues... playing at 5800" so the ball is flying.

Its very easy to get caught up in this courses surroundings. It's like Pebble Beach when it comes to beauty. You want to focus but you get caught up. (I took like 30 photos).

The tee box's are perfect...and lined correctly. You can play the Red's to the tips along with white/blue Combo tees.

Fairways are wide for the most part. Some holes like 9 and 16 have trees in the middle of the fairway. Some mild undulations in the fairways, a few water hazards but nothing crazy.

Greens: Smallest and fastest greens I have ever played. Pure and true. You need to stick it on the green to keep it there (high trajectory shots) or you can run it up playing it short. Toughest part of the course. They were either long and narrow or narrow and deep. Lot's of front pin placements. Putting was all about speed here, lines were straight.

Traps were superb. Sand was level and fair, not to bouncy, yet not to thick.

9,16, 17, and 18 are beautiful holes. Big Blue is bearing down on you. Wind was up on the back 9 as you get closer to the lake.

You really need to club down here or dial in your distance on the range before you play, and take your time doing it. I shot a 93. I was consistently throwing the ball over the green on the approach shots. My PW which is usually good to 140 was going 160+ I could not figure it out till late in the round.

It's a bucket list course. I will play it differently next time now that I know what to do.

Expensive tourist course with great views of Lake Tahoe. Fall rate is $200; course closes for winter on October 11th this year.

Course condition just about perfect. Greens quite firm, quite fast and hard to putt due to their size and speed. Entire course slopes down the hill to the lake -- affects break and speed of putts both uphill and downhill.

Fairways are quite wide and lots of bunkers. What water there is is along the sides of the fairways -- no holes that require carry over water to reach the green. Also lots of pine trees and pine needles in the rough. Two holes have large pine trees in the middle of the fairway.

Class A- amenities. Ice chest on carts with comp water and apples. No ball washer/club cleaner on carts. No towels -- bring you own. Range, putting green and chipping area are all good -- grass (no mats) on range; balls included in green fees (as they should be).


Electric carts with great GPS. According to the starter, each green has six hole locations, each of which are programmed into the GPS. So the GPS shows the distance to that day's hole location as well as front and back yardage and the yardage up to and to carry fairway bunkers.

Large pro shop and vary large restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining with great lake view. Even if you don't want to pay two bills for a round of golf, excellent choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

So, I have never paid $200 for a round of golf for a lot of reasons. I still won't, unless I am playing edgewood. I have always wanted to play this course and now that I have, I want to again. Let me tell you why... The course is BEAUTIFUL. I have never played a course that can hold a candle to this one. Lake Tahoe is in view from almost every hole. The grass is great, the greens roll true, the range is great, the chipping area is great, the putting green is great. Every hole offers something unique. Every hole is memorable and I often caught myself just spacing out looking around. The conditions were perfect and the only complaint I have is something most courses dont have anyways... I want a smaller sand to carry since I am a carry walker. I hate leaving divots with nothing to repair them with. The best part of this course is, it is a fair test for your average golfer. The course is a faders course and since most amateurs miss right, it gives you the chance to shoot a decent score. Sorry Classic Club, you've been replaced.

First time to Lake Tahoe and as I was driving to the Hotel - I drove by the course and from what I saw from the street, I knew I wanted to play the course! Confirmed that feeling even more when other out-of-towners complemented the course too. So I got a last minute Saturday (9/4/10) twilight tee time out (finished in perfect time).

Once you step out onto the first hole - you'll know - the combination of the sport with nature's beauty is almost harmonious.

Greens were consistently fast (other than Hole 7 - which probably does not get much light all day). Fairways were well taken cared of; roughs are challenging but forgiving.
Hole 3 was my favorite throughout the day - Par 5, dogleg right, with the green elevated and encompassed by a forest. - UNTIL I saw the approach shot on 16 and the par 3 17! (Jokingly gives new meaning to water hazard on the right side of 17).

I can not possibly see how anyone would not like the course - certainly worth the time and money. Although there are certainly other courses in the area that I would like to try (Check out North Tahoe) - if somebody asked me to play Edgewood again - I wouldn't think twice.

I enjoyed a vacation in Lake Tahoe last week and played Edgewood Tahoe on July 7. A really outstanding golf course worth the $200 green fee. As others have mentioned, the views of the lake on the back nine are beautiful, but more importantly, the course is well laid out and in perfect condition. I think it might have been in prime shape because of next week’s Celebrity Tour event. It’s going to be fun watching on TV as Charles Barkley and the others play the same holes I played.

Back to the course… Tees, fairway and rough were green and lush. Sand was soft and deep. All but two of the greens were fast. The starter said number eight and number 15 had been recently replaced and were spongier than the other greens. I did one-putt both those greens, probably because they were a bit slower.

Service was outstanding. Everyone was extremely pleasant and helpful. As a single, they tried to pair me with a husband and wife teeing off on number one, but the wife had requested that they play alone. The starter was real good about it and asked me whether I wanted to play by myself or wait for another group. Meanwhile, I’m hitting balls on the grass range and enjoying the scenery. The starter comes back to me a few minutes later and asks me whether I would like to join a threesome coming up to number 10 and play the back nine first. I was ready to go and was pleased to join a group of locals who play the course regularly.

After a fun back nine, I came around to number one and the starter said I had the front nine to myself as no one else was on the course… That was actually a lot of fun. I got around the front nine in an hour-and-a-half, and completed the entire round in three-and-a-half hours.

Throughout the round, along with the beautiful scenery, it was cool seeing the stands and camera towers in place for next week’s event. I even received some applause from the set-up crew as I sank a par putt on my final hole, number nine. If you happen to vacation in Tahoe, I highly recommend playing Edgewood Tahoe.

Played 8/21. The conditions of the course were excellent. The greens were smooth, held shots, and the speed was medium/fast. The fairways, bunkers, and tee boxes were in great shape. The rough was good and at a reasonable length but it really grabbed the club.

The course is very challenging. Water hazards, large pines, and plenty of fairway and green side bunkers. The price I paid for prime time summer weekend is up there but I wasn't disappointed. The staff at Edgewood Tahoe is wonderful. The course does offer a caddy option but I found the GPS to be enough. One disappointing thing about many high priced courses is they frequently seem to have 1 to 3 holes that are gimmicky and/or poorly designed. This was NOT the case at Edgewood Tahoe. Aside from the spectacular views the course is solid. It has a nice mix of short to long par 4s and par 3s. A few holes were fairly basic but not one did I think was poor.

Whether paying $200 plus to play golf is worth it, that is your call. For me, considering I was on vacation, the course is not close to home, and it is a quality course with great staff, it was worth playing.
