Black Oak is in decent shape... nice and green. Sand is fine, greens are ok, not as good as they often are, but they'll be punching next week, so they should shape up soon.

By far the best 9 hole course in the area. It is like an 18 hole course cut in half. One of the par fives is reachable in two, the other is very difficult to hit in two. Some of the par fours are reachable in one, but they punish an errant shot if you go for it and miss. The maintenance crew does an admirable job of keeping this low budget course in respectable shape. A few of the tee boxes need leveling, but other than that there isn't much to complain about.

The greens are nice... though soft and pretty slow. Everything else is getting pretty chopped up. The fairways and rough are shaggy. Pretty slow on Sunday afternoon... but I guess that's to be expecte... Continue »

Wet, wet, wet. Well, it has been raining for a week. The greens were mighty slow (I stopped a chip from the top tier to the bottom pin on number 5 right next to the hole... an impossibility on most days), and there were quite a few soggy spots. Not too bad though considering.

Played with a nice group of guys... good fun.

Black Oak is in great shape for the kind of play it gets. The greens are really exceptional right now. Yeah, they're pretty soft, but they're very smooth. Fairways are pretty decent, rough is fine, sand is good, if a little heavy. The weak spot is the tees... unlevel, thin, beat up... but come on, this course gets a lot of play.

This really is a great 9 hole course. You can't beat the price, and the layout is great. Tight, tough, old school kind of golf. And the "local" vibe is great... comfortable, and definately not snobby in the least.

A fairly tough course, generally recognized as one of the hardest 9-hole courses in Northern California. In good shape and always well tended. Definitely worth the money!
