Played today in the heat, and it was a good time. The greens were punched recently (on Oct 1st?), so they were slow and bumpy. Overall, though, the rest of the course was in good shape, with good fairways, reasonable length rough and pretty well tended sand traps. One nice change from other courses in the area was there was a decent amount of sand in the traps, so it was possible to play them like normal. There were a few areas where the water had collected and made for some muddy conditions, but overall it was very good. The practice facilities at the course are pretty good, with some kind of trackman-type thing on the driving range and a good sized practice putting/chipping area.

I had a chance to get out for a late afternoon round, so I booked a 4:00 tee time here for just $10. I arrived a little early. There were more people out than I expected on a really hot afternoon, but it was mainly singles, twosomes and threesomes heading out. I joined up with another single and teed off around 3:40. We played through a couple groups on the front nine before catching up to others on the back nine, ultimately finishing in under 3 hours.

The course was in decent condition. The tee boxes were generally fine. The fairways were pretty good. Some thin and firm sections here and there, but I mostly had nice lies to hit from. Rough a bit less consistent, but decent overall. Greens were firm-ish, yet receptive and rolling pretty well at medium speeds. The only real complaint was the bunkers. They were atrocious. Just hardpan and pretty neglected.

At first, I thought this was going to be a very bland course and I was reminded of Woodley Lakes early on, but the layout got more interesting and challenging. It's flat and pretty forgiving in most places, but there is water in play on all but a few holes and there are some very demanding shots at times. Solid overall and a bit more interesting than I expected it to be. It was well worth $10, so it was a good overall experience today.

Haven't seen a recent write-up on Micke Grove Golf links yet, so here is my feeling on my first time playing this course. I like it. It is suffering from the heat of summer like all of the other courses in the San Joaquin valley. Face it, IT'S HOT in the VALLEY! today it was 97 ... but I digress ... This course is challenging, but not overpowering. It offers a wide range of different looks, provides plenty of water and fairway bunkers to keep you rewarded with a great tee shot, but can punish you for that slice or hook. A few of the fairways were a bit on the narrow side, but nothing like Elkhorn ... The Willow trees can be a life saver around the Water holes (or, at least in my case they were - LOL) Greens - Most were smooth and in nice shape, a couple were bumpy, but still very putt-able. 8 out of 10 Sand Traps - the few I found myself in were in very good in the sand levels - almost didn't make it out because I didn't expect to be able to dig a hole in the sand!- I got about 2 inches deep in the first trap I played, and found myself still in the trap! Most of the other courses in Stockton have packed sand - Not here, like hitting out of a sandbox. Quite a pleasure - if you like playing out of sand ... 8 out of 10 Fairways - most of them were nice, some areas were a bit thin and hard, but very playable. I would give them a 7 out of 10 Rough - thin in some spots, scary thick in others, but hey ... it's called ROUGH for a reason .... overall ... 7 out of 10 What made this course worth it for me was the price, Monday Madness is in effect ... so the course was well worth the green fees. There was even a cart girl on the course for a MONDAY ... and we tee'd off at 12:15. was off the 18th green at 4:00 and we played as a foursome. The Pro-shop seemed like it was well stocked and reasonably priced. This course is well maintained and I rank it up there with Swenson Park, but the trees are more friendlier to escape from ... or ... maybe not ... LOL But, I think it plays a tad harder than Swenson, due to the amount of water and bunkers on the course. I'll add pictures later ... Oh .... one last thing, the course has changed the old Front Nine, to the Back Nine (10-18) and vise-versa

Played Micke Grove today, Monday Madness. 18$ to walk 25 to ride. Fairways were in great condition, no bare spots and alot of run. Bunkers a little thin, rough not to penal, a few trees do come in to play. Greens rolled great smooth and stimped about a 9 or 10.
Well worth the price and is a thinking mans muni.

Played 8/24/12 teed off at 9 am course was busy but we played in just under 3 1/2 hours. The tee boxes were mostly level but looks like no one who plays there can fill their divots on the par 3's. The management company should spend $ on refurbishing the irrigation system, there were spots on the fairways and rough that were dead and other spots that were flooded. These were the slowest greens that I have played this year somewhere between 0 - 2 on the stimp. The course has a quirky but fun layout and having the trains stop at the course is added bonus. The pro shop and grill is were Micke Grove shined with first rate service at both counters.

Micke Grove Golf Links is part of the greater Micke Grove park complex south of Lodi Calif. laid out along the Union Pacific railroad tracks. As a train watcher and avid golfer, I really appreciate the ease of watching multiple trains roll by while playing golf, however I am digressing from the mission of greenskeeper.org in providing useful information.

This course doesn't offer many features to boast about other than I get to watch trains while playing. It's flat, fairways parallel side by side, and the conditions could easily be referred to as typical muni golf. The tee boxes are poor due to detrimental grading and absolutely no tending to broken tees about the area. The fairways are OK, plenty of divots strewn about plus a few bare spots but nothing to gag over, same goes for the rough. The greens are OK, the locals don't like to repair their ball marks. The sand...honestly I forgot about the sand, I'm sure it's there but I couldn't tell you if it's hard pan or not. Honestly, one feature I do like about playing Micke Grove (I've played twice) is that it lets me practice my ball mark repair motion as I repair marks left by others, plus I get to create busted tee collections while waiting on the tee box - by this later comment I don't mean to infer this is a slow moving course (4.5 - 5hr range).

The dominant hazard is water/marshland, 9 holes have this water/marshland hazard consideration. Other that it's pretty straight forward in design, Micke Grove is a cheap course to play when you absolutely need a golf fix - OH YEAH - they do feature an all grass driving range!

Played 12/27, 11:38 tee time for $28 including cart. Starter was friendly and got us out about 15 minutes early, there were mainly two-somes out on the course and the pace was moving along great. Finished in just under 4 hours. The course was saturated due to all the recent rain this area has received, and as such was cart path only. Even though it was pretty wet and muddy, the course was still very playable. Fairways were cut perfectly and were very green, rough was lush and difficult to recover from, and greens rolled medium-fast and true. The bunkers were pretty solid, with water pooling in many of them, but the maintenance staff was out there pumping water out as we played. There were very few unrepaired ball marks on the greens, and the majority of the golfers on this day seemed to be replacing their fairway divots. There are water hazards on several holes, and the lakes were way over capacity, so some fairways were way tighter than normal. Also many lakes where there weren't supposed to be any! This was my second time playing this course, and I really liked it the first time; the fact that it held up well in these winter conditions solidified my opinion. Great course, great value, will return next time I'm in the area.

The staff were extremely friendly and appreciated you spending and playing at their course...A little of a trip for my buddy from Auburn and I being from Placerville...Turned out to be very warm day around 96 degrees, and this course generally has a breeze but not today...Speed of round was about normal...Not having to wait for any other foursomes ahead of us...Plan to play about every 2-3 weeks....
