The course has a new name since the first time I played here. I reviewed the pictures here as part of my preparation and remembered playing as Oakmont GC a Ted Robinson design.
Happy to report that the course is in good condition, green throughout healthy grass growth. 4 yrs since last review so here it is for U!
Course condition much like the pictures posted awhile back. We tee'd off at 11:20 and finished in a little more than 4.5 hrs in NCGA Sr Series tournament format.
The classic West course is the longer (6359 max) of two here. Sugarloaf an executive par 63 designed for Srs & beginners but still challenging also winds in and about housing in this area of Santa Rosa off Rt 12. Older community and small homes line both courses with many members playing that live in the area. Two level clubhouse with the golf on the lower level and banquet area on the second floor looking over putting green smaller driving range and the course.
Greens in good shape mostly sloped back to front with strategic bunkering of grayish brown sand plays better than it looks. Medium speed greens nothing to fear. Subtle breaks versus large undulations. Rough was tougher length and t stopped quickly laying low and deep in areas. Fairways tight offering run out.
Like I mentioned healthy looking through the green and the website pricing makes this an attractive option. Driving here through Sonoma from Napa will save some $ to play golf. Traffic maybe a concern depending on time of day on single lane roads into this area. Nice and scenic through wine country. Friendly staff and locals. Nothing fancy or over the top, just solid golf facility in a nice area. Bev cart out on hotter sunny day $7 can of lager.
Course fully recovered from past challenges of ownership and management.
