Haven't played here since last year. Driving range had a lot of damage from the wind storm on December 1 in the area. Some of the driving range posts were missing as well as the fencing around the driving range. The fencing and posts were completely missing in the back. Also some of the fencing and posts were gone on the right side of the driving range. The driving range were mats only, 150 yards max and irons only. About 3/4 of the driving range was open.

Course was about average shape when we played today. There were lots of bare spots on the fairways with dirt spots. Grass was looking very dry and thin in a lot of spots. Greens were in decent shape tho' there were some greens with a lot of divot damage. Bunkers were in ok shape. Tee boxes were ok but some were not level and some had some dry patches. It took us just under 3 hours to play 9. There were some waiting on several holes. Love playing here to work on my short game and prices are very reasonable especially twilight and super twilight rates. You can easily walk 9 here.

Played Altadena Saturday afternoon 10/2 but since I played and reviewed it 9/10, this an update to that earlier posting. Whether due to the heat wave or my perceptions, I noticed more extensive dried out areas around the course and generally thinner lies in the fairways. Still generally decent coverage and playable in the main areas, but seems there are a lot of peripheral areas beyond the reach of whatever irrigation they do. Interestingly, the precipitation we are experiencing currently should help the situation. Greens had been punched since my previous visit. The pattern was still visible but the roll was reasonably true. The speed however was medium slow and putt speed tended to die off as opposed to the normal pace here. There was more activity on the course starting a few holes behind me, but prior to my teeing off and for a hole behind, it was wide open. I played as a single and played two balls. Frankly, it was a day that I really would have preferred to get out to Hanson Dam or Santa Anita. But given that between travel, warmup and playing time I would have been looking at 6+ hours minimum that I didn't have the luxury to spend that day, Altadena serviceably filled the gap as a compromise to get a fix in.

Played 9 yesterday, out around 5:30 as a single. A twosome ahead of me (didn't invite me to join them on the first tee) and a single ahead of them, all of whom moved long quickly so the pace was just under 2 hours for the round. I was frequently playing two balls. Perhaps because of the generally cooler summer, I find the fairways greener than I would usually this time of year. Respectfully, I think the previous reviewer paints a misleading picture of the conditions. There are some brown dry areas that come to mind, but not in the main playing areas. For instance, there is an extensive, dry patch extending the first forty yards out in front of the first tee -- a 453 yd par 4. After that, it is fine. So it's accurate to say there are some dry thin areas, but little of it is in play unless you manage a feeble mi sh$t . The effect would be more pronounced on the two par 3s, to a greater or lesser degree, if you hit well short of the green complexes. Generally speaking, everything I put in the fairway was a good lie although a couple of fairways were tighter than the rest. Greens were softer and more receptive than usual and medium speed. Not super smooth, but tracked reasonably well. It's a good, inexpensive course to work on your game, with good conditions overall and more challenges than you'd expect -- e.g. tough, long, par 4 opening and closing holes.

Played today 8/4 as a walk on just before super twilight started. Took me about 1 hour and 15 minutes to play 9 holes. It was super busy once super twilight started after 6 pm.

It's been a while since I played here. The fairways had lots of areas where it was just dirt. Plus there were other areas where the fairways were very thin. There were lots of dry patches everywhere. Greens were in good shape. Like playing here to get my practice in. Price is right to play here plus I like the grass driving range (depending on the season). There are a couple of par 5's where you can just grip it and rip it.

Played on Sunday 3/14/10. The greens where punched about two weeks ago, so they are very bumpy and need another month before the completely recover. Not enjoyable.

Played this morning had a 7:20 tee time but got there at 7:35 but luckily the starter got us out right then. I was a little worried because there looked to be 3 groups waiting to tee off but luckily they had an 8:00 tee time. The course is a decent length bookended by two par 4s which are incredibly long (hole 1 is 453 and hole 9 is 437). Greens were decent but for some reason couldn't read them for anything. This whole course is nice for a quick 9 holes before work but if you get caught behind anyone slow, watch out. The holes are pretty straight forward with no doglegs or anything. A few bunkers are scattered through the layout but they are pretty much straight holes. Luckily the holes are of varied lengths so that you can use most of the clubs in the bag. My brother and I were able to walk this course and still leave there at 9:35.

Played twilight yesterday, 12/3. With the recent rains, on the whole the course is probably as good at this course gets. Didn't find any bare spots on the fairways and the lies generally set up well. ... Continue »

Played twilight yesterday, 12/3. With the recent rains, on the whole the course is probably as good at this course gets. Didn't find any bare spots on the fairways and the lies generally set up well. Greens were receptive and high approach shots were within a a couple of feet of the pitch mark, yet I found the putting speed was on the quick side. Didn't hit any bunkers so I can't comment -- historically they are in good shape. Tee boxes had good coverage, although one hitch to this course is that a few boxes have a slight cant to them and seldom, if ever, give you a truly flat lie. A generally straight, 9-hole course with a mix of open and tight fairways and a few deceptively tough greens mixed in. Nothing flashy, it's a good value. To be clear, it is a regulation 9, NOT an executive. The cool afternoon air and suggestion of fog gave the day a classic golf feel.

What a great place! Absolutely love the real grass driving range (too bad it's not lit at night). The course was in very good to great condition, with greens playing medium-fast to fast, despite the recent storm. Although the course was busy, my buddy and I were able to get a last minute tee time no problem, and finished in just over 2 hours. We'll definetly come back again.

I like this place. One of my favorite executive 9 hole courses. Great scenery around and not a lot of traffic noise. Pretty quick to get on and a round is always under 15 bucks, if you do twilight ... Continue »

I like this place. One of my favorite executive 9 hole courses. Great scenery around and not a lot of traffic noise. Pretty quick to get on and a round is always under 15 bucks, if you do twilight times, it is more like 10 bucks. Nice real grass driving range too.
