Went out Sunday 11/15 at 12:30 pm. Finished the 18th in the dark at 5:15 pm. Weekend pace of play at LA munis is brutal. The course is in fine condition and the fall weather made walking easy. Fairways are in good shape; enjoy while you can! The greens were punched at the start of the month but have recovered well; though remain a bit bumpy. Please fix your ball marks. Unfortunately I had a chance to test the bunkers on more than one occassion. The sand is deep and loose...a big change from compacted dirt. I enjoy this straightforward course and will return.

Played Friday afternoon. First time I have played here. Course was fun, not a whole lot of challenge, but fairways and tees in good shape and the rough had some high spots. Did not get into the sand, but the greens were bumpy and still recovering from the punching that was done a few weeks ago. They really just need to roll them and they would putt much better. Bring your own beverages as no one will be around to get you any, but for 30 bucks, had fun.

Played today with a tee time around 9 am. It took us around 4 1/2 hours to play 18. Course is in fairly good condition. The greens were a little soft. We saw a lot of unrepaired ball marks on the greens. When the balls land on the greens, it seems to stop fairly quickly. The fairways were in decent shape but there were brown/bare spots here and there. In addition on the fairways, there were a lot of unfilled divots. The rough here is pretty brutal. A lot of times we only saw the top of our balls in the rough.

Course is pretty flat. There are no water hazards here just a lot of bunkers. Course is a little long even for beginners. Didn't care for the driving range here. You are basically hitting into dirt range. The rental carts here are falling apart just like the others at other LA city courses. No GPS in carts. But the price is good for LA city residents plus it is close for us.

Played Balboa with friends on Saturday 9/13/09. Course was in very good shape for a heavily played muni. Pace of play for a Saturday morning was excellent 4 to 4 1/2 hrs. Balboa is a fairly easy course, even for a high handicapper like me. It is fairly level in its terrain and therefore very walkable.

It's a LA muni, so can't have too high expectations. Pretty flat course, easy to walk if the temperature is ok, golf carts are very old with bald tires. Layout is pretty uninteresting. Not a diffic... Continue »

Not a difficult course and you can score a bit easier here. Fairways/greens/rough/tee boxes were very average muni style. Not horrible, but not great, just kinda there and not memorable. Bunkers range from sand to hard dirt. Over 5 hours on a weekend, and for the price you can play much better courses if you drive a bit more.

Played a casual round 8/18 at 9AM. Got off on time and finished in a hair under 4 hours. The course is in surprisingly good shape. Far better than I expected. Plenty of grass on fairways, some honest-to-gosh rough and the greens are nice (except #5 which is thin and mottled and rolls horribly). The bunkers seem to have new sand in them, as it is light and fluffy. 3 out of 4 shots my partners hit into bunkers were comically plugged. Tee boxes a little uneven at places, but plenty of turf on them. Fun course in good shape!

Greens are very inconsistent, some aerated, some not, some slow, some decent speed . Finished the round in 3 and half hours today.

Played 2/27 as a foursome. Went off at about 10:40 (scheduled for 10:30). We got around in about 4:45. The course needs work. Even for winter conditions there are plenty of bare spots. The tee boxes are a mess, and the fairways only slightly better. Greens were decent. Plenty of places marked 'ground under repair'. Probably my least favorite of the LA City courses.
