Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Played 4/20. Got around in about 5 hours or so. Fun, challenging course. The staff is very courteous and professional. I saw and said hello to Mr. Trump on #14. He was very friendly, and asked about our experience. I didn't mention it to him on the course (because he was very cool, and he might have kicked my ass), but I will say it here: this course is awfully expensive. The views are great, and it is a first-class track, so perhaps that's just the going rate. I've heard that they have reduced the greens fees thru the end of May, if so, that's a good thing. Just for kicks, I checked the rate for 4/21 (at) 8:30 a.m. $275, before tax. Throw in the tax, and the round costs you $300. At $300, each hole is costing you (or someone else) $16.67. Ouch. On the other hand, this is all part of the Trump experience: top of the line facilities, good staff and a steep price. So you know that you are going to get quality, but it will cost you. What the hell. You only live once.
Oh yeah, one more thing: bring plenty of balls.

Played 3/25 @ about 2:00 p.m. as a 4-some. We got around in about 4.75. Great course, well maintained, and challenging. I have played Trump, and for the money, Trump has nothing on this place (except for the ocean view). I will definitely be going back, as soon as I buy more balls. In case you were wondering, I lost 6. d%mn it!
Played 3/17. Went off as a foursome at about 11:40. We got around in about 5 hours, but the way I was playing, it felt like double that. The course is well maintained and in good shape. Accuracy is key here. Bahrooz lost 6 balls due to sprayed drives.
One thing that I found odd was the number of workers mowing virtually fairway/green. On one par three, one of our foursome would hit up, and sure enough, the guy in the mower comes zipping across the green. After the next guy hits, the mower takes another turn, And so on. If they wanted to improve the pace of play, this isn't the way to do it.
TIP: Just behind the 18th hole fringe and off to the right (but still well in-bounds), there is a surly-ass dog tied to a chain. No joke. I hit my ball about 8 feet away from him. He was on a 6 foot chain. When I walked up to my ball, he shot out of nowhere barking like an MF'er. Seriously. He had a junk-yard dog look to him. I'm not sure what the hell he is doing out there, but it was pretty clear that he didn't want me anywhere near him. If I had played it where it landed, he would have killed me. I'm not sure what the rule is, but I dropped a good 15 feet from him to chip up (and no, I did not take a penalty). Come to think of it, that was probably the highlight of the day.

Played 3/12. 11:00 tee time. We went off as a twosome (there were very few players out there-no doubt due to the aeration of the greens). American Golf was running a $25 dollar internet special, so the price was right. Apart from the greens, the course was in fine shape. We got around in about 3.5 hours. Of the two Brookside courses, this one is by far my favorite. It's long, so be prepared for plenty of 3-Wood or 3-4-5 iron play.
Played 3/6 as a foursome. Got around in about 5 hours which is pretty good for this place. Overall, the course is in good shape. They have added a couple of new greens on the back 9. Both are excellent additions to a fine course. My partner and I played poorly, but were able to scramble a little and pull something out of nothing. Fortunately, Rancho gives you ample opportunities to do just that. TIP: If you are riding, try and get a green cart. They are new and hold a charge well. If you get stuck with one of the older white carts, you may be pushing it for the last 3 holes. If that happens, let the guy at the cart shack know, and he may give you a free cart your next time out.
Played 3/5 as a 5some. Got around in about 5:15. This is a fun course (despite the loss of about 5 balls). The fairways are pretty tight and some of the greens are well protected by some serious bunkers. Accuracy is key. The rough is plenty deep, so don't be like me and play your second shots from the deepest rough.
Played 2/27 as a foursome. Went off at about 10:40 (scheduled for 10:30). We got around in about 4:45. The course needs work. Even for winter conditions there are plenty of bare spots. The tee boxes are a mess, and the fairways only slightly better. Greens were decent. Plenty of places marked 'ground under repair'. Probably my least favorite of the LA City courses.
Played 2/26. Went off as a foursome at 12:22. Got around in 4:40. Tee boxes were a little chewed up but fairways and greens were decent. If you can play for the twilight rate or get a deal from an online tee-time booking for a reduced rate, it's definitely worth playing. I'm not sure I would feel as though I got my money's worth if I had paid full freight. All in all, a fun little course.
Played 2/20. Like many other reviewers, I found the fairways to be thin, and not in great condition. That said, it is winter golf and this is a muni course. Greens and were in decent shape, tee boxes were marginal. Pace of play was slow. We went off as a threesome (threesome in front of us) at 1:18 and didn't get around (barely got 17 in; sunset was 5:44). The highlight was the Hamms beer for $2.75. If we made it around, I would have given it an overall "thumbs-up" for winter conditions.
Played 12/23. Tee time at 12:10 and got all the way around just as it got dark. A great deal for 30 bucks w/ cart. Overall, a very nice course. The course was in good shape compared to others this time of year. The most difficult part of this course is the greens-they tend to be a little gimmicky. I would definitely play here again. Great value for your dollar.
