Played the afternoon of June 29 (Fri). This was my first round here in several years. Typically, I've stayed away simply because the pace of play is too much to put up with. After today's round, I now know why the pace is so slow here (luckily, we finished in 4 1/2 today). As for the course, it was in very good shape. Every aspect of the course was well-conditioned except for the greens. They rolled smooth, but were a little shaggy and extra-receptive. Approach shots resulted in virtually no release whatsoever. Now, here are my reasons for the slow pace: a) with such a low greens fee, you get a LOT of beginning golfers. b) there are a lot of walkers - many of them elderly and pushing carts. I don't have any problem with that at all, but since the course has a fair amount of hills and undulations and elevated greens, it takes a while for those walkers to get around. c) the elevated greens result in some steep fringe areas, i.e., if you don't get up top, your ball is going to roll down a collection area, and if you're a beginning golfer, or if your short game isn't very good, chipping can be tough, especially if it's a blind chip. d) the par 3s are fairly long and difficult here. Add it all up and you get an average round of probably 5+ hours. Of course, it only cost us $21 to play - which is a terrific value for a course of this caliber. I don't care for 18 much, but there really are some well-designed holes here.
