Played this morning around 8 am. Greens are in the best conditions I've seen them in a while. Smallish, fast and slopey greens. Perfect California morning. Not very crowded today but it seems that there was a tourney about to begin. They tend to have a lot of those going around this time, so call ahead. Glad to see them getting this course closer to where it should be. A lot of eye candy on and around the course as well.

Called and made a tee time, checked in 20 mins before our tee time(starter states, i'll call you later),
no call back, so went back up at our tee time, paid, then waited another 40 mins to tee off. ... Continue »

Called and made a tee time, checked in 20 mins before our tee time(starter states, i'll call you later),
no call back, so went back up at our tee time, paid, then waited another 40 mins to tee off. What the hell? Why was the starter calling people off the waiting list? Whats the point of having a tee time when it seems like the walk-ins have priority. Why is there 6 groups on the tee box? Anyways, besides the greens, course conditions is below average. Tee boxes all chewed up, fairway dry and patchy, bunkers filled with foot prints.

If you ever want a primer on how to run a golf course, just observe what goes on at the first tee boxes here - and then do the exact opposite. At times they are waiting 3 groups deep - course 1 had regular tee times hitting away in between foursomes from a corporate outing who they obviously didn't block out any times for. Total chaos.

Played course 2 and gave up after 4.5 hours only doing 16 holes. Slow as molasses with walking 5-somes and do-nothing-marshalls, waiting on just about every hole - and this on a Wednesday.

Greens soft, slowish and bumpy - fairways good, rough about 2 inches so it is starting to get your attention. Tee boxes a bit scrappy but alright.

All in all, muni golf at its finest

Greens have come back well but are still on the bumpy side - good, medium fast speed, however.

Fairways have been aerated with big holes relatively recently - plugs everywhere.

Rest of the course decent for a muni - sand very fluffy and good.

Slow as treacle on a weekday afternoon (typical)

I think they have a new super here or something because they really seem to be working these courses into good shape for munis.

Greens were decent with little to no damage. Tees nice and lush/level. Rough was spotty - it's starting to come back after dormancy but you still can get some funky lies. Fairways were close to immaculate - lush and springy with great lies to hit from. Sand looked new and fluffy in all the traps.

Course etiquette is typical for muni - lots of hackers who won't let you through. But all in all Brookside is on the up.

greens are in great condition right now, to bad the other parts of the course is mediocre. Very crowded for a thursday afternoon. Still, a great day to play golf.

Those greens were as good as I have ever seen them, I don't know if it was because it a was the PLGA Tournet of champions but they rolled nice, fast and pure. Doesn't mean that I made puts cause I din't, but they were tour style. 1 or 2 ball mark per green, nice fairways and rough. sand was a little thin and hard. Overall condition was owesome. Shorter course than #1 but challenging with trouble all over the place. It will test your game for sure.

Course is pretty saturated - only a half inch overnite and there was a fair amount of standing water/soggy spots, so it's pretty well at its limit.

Course is pretty saturated - only a half inch overnite and there was a fair amount of standing water/soggy spots, so it's pretty well at its limit.

So it's soft, playing long and the greens are slow and bumpy - but considering the weather, not too bad overall I suppose. Apart from being wet, the greens continue to improve from a horticultural standpoint with very nice coverage and lush looking too. Not too much sign of the kikuya runners anymore.

Rough is so lush and wet/heavy, that if you land in some longer stuff it's hack-out time.

It's the height of football season so expect plenty of glass, bottle caps and weiners (left over) on the fairway. Once you pick your way through that, the fairways and rough are going dormant, a little thin here and there and soft.

Tees were good. Sand was wet after overnight rain and compacted.

Greens were the best part - running fairly fast, only slightly bumpy for a muni and giving a true roll. The recent aeration has the invading kikuya still knocked down for the most part, although you can start to see it making a comeback.
