Walked 18 today. Course is in fair shape. Best part are greens, running at 8.5. Fairways, and tee boxes are in average conditions. Many holes are getting work done and tee boxes are being leveled. Sand traps were ok condition. Course is short and average challenging. $31 to walk is pricey. Will only play this course because my client likes to play it.

Played 8/31 as a 2some. $29 special (with cart) through GolfNow for a 12:40pm tee time. Although we ran into the 3some in front of us a few times, it only took us slightly over 3 hours to play. Pace of play was simply fantastic. Fairways and tee boxes were mediocre, and the greens were less than ideal. Lots of ball marks and dry patches. The buddy that I played with told me that Course #1 greens were much better when he played the day before. For the money and the pace, it was hard to beat.

Through the green the course is dormant and winter conditions exist. Fairways and rough are thin. Tee boxes are thin too for the most part and one or two have been re-sodded. Greens are about average for muni golf but they track decently with medium pace. Sand was fluffy and in good condition throughout.

The real issue is with the tree damage from the wind storm. The felled and damaged trees have certainly altered the look - and perhaps in a few cases the character - of the course. Big trees are gone from the right side of 2 & 3 which changes those tee shots and allows for errant tee balls to still see the green - previously, misses on that side of those holes were penalized. The damage gets mo extensive the further down the course you go. I suspect the narrower canyon towards the end of the arroyo funneled the winds and made them stronger. For instance, there are a number of characterful trees gone or severely damaged along the arroyo side of 11 fairway. And 13 has lost a number of big pines on the left that were penal to hooked tee shots. Throughout the course there are vistas that were previously not there due to the loss of trees.

It's quite sad to see. Most of the small debris is gone but there are a lot of large stumps still lying around and clearly a lot of damaged trees that still need surgery. Given that trees were one of the main defenses on this course, i think it does now play a bit different in places.

I play Brookside every week and I got to #10 and went home. THREE, yes THREE HOURS to get to number ten on course number two! The guys in front of us were one and a half holes behind and could give a sh$t . No marshall all day and they don't do anything if they are out on the course. I don't understand why a course (Brookside) would let one group piss off ALL of the players behind them. What I saw of course two is in good shape.

Played today 7:15 5 ball. Played in a little over four hours this morning and had a good time. The course is in good shape except for the unfixed ball marks on the greens. I think I fixed three or four per hole. Come on people fix your Fix ball marks, it just doesn't take that long!

The group in front us(fivesome) were really slow. No one in front of this group. Also saw the cart girl numerous times which was a plus in this hot weather(90-100 degrees). Water coolers on the course, but usually runs out later in the day. Fun layout, but kinda short.

Brookside GC has always been a local favorite of mine. Especially early AM tee times on course #2, where you pay for 9-holes and play 12. Today was a little different. After handling the majority of the Sunday "Honey-Do" list, a buddy wanted to try and catch a Sunday Super Twilight. We booked a tee time for 4:20 PM and headed out for Pasadena. For $25.00, we figured why not chase the sunset in a cart and play as many holes as we can? I thought we had a great chance on finishing the round.

Upon pulling into the parking lot, we noticed there were more than the usual amount of cars in the parking lot for a Sunday afternoon. We thought there must have been some sort of function in the banquet facility. After all, weren't most of the golfers at home watching the PGA Championship? Maybe not since Tiger missed the cut, eh?

Judging by the amount of people in line waiting to check-in, the amount of people on the practice green and driving range, you would have thought Brookside GC was offering free golf! O-M-G. I thought there was no way were even going to finish the complete round.

Surprisingly, we tee'd off quickly and were paired up with a few hackers ... I mean beginners. Nonetheless, we were anxious to get started, so I piped the first tee shot nearly on to the green, and so did my buddy. When the other two stopped arguing about who was going next, he chili-dips his driver and sends the tee shot ... who knows where. The last guy sends his tee shot about 200-yards in the air that lands about 120-yards right of center. I looked at my buddy and we both knew that finishing just 9-holes might be challenging.

The fairways were nice and tight. The roll out added about 20-25 yards to total distance. The rough could have used a little maintenance. The sand traps were nice and fluffy. The greens held and were rolling a little on the slower side. I think it was because it was still HOT outside. However, judging speed was not too difficult.

After checking our clock, we finished the front nine in a little over 2-hours. Not bad. After all, my buddy and I were hoping to get through Brookside's own "Amen Corner," holes 11, 12 and 13. I didn't know this, but it is a Par 5, 3, 4 and are adjoining to each other like at Augusta (I hear it's even the same hole numbers.)

No beverage cart person made it seem like a long day. When we finally reached Amen Corner, we knew this was going to be the last few holes. Oh wells, I was having fun. I ended up bogey, birdie and par for the three holes. We ended up calling it quit due to lack of light. We bid our farewells to the other two players and headed back to the clubhouse .

All in all, it was a great day to be out playing golf. Unfortunately, so did a few hundred other fellow golfers. I really can't complain, because it was only $25.00 including cart. So, the next time you are in the area, check out Brookside GC. But, be advised that trying to finish a complete round here on the weekend during twilight is most likely NOT going to happen.

Yes we had a 1:00 t-time and we did play in just over 4 hrs., but we turned 9 holes in 1 hr. 45 min. and then we ran into the 5 ball that was TWO holes behind and they could give a sh$t . The course is in good shape except some brown spots. We had a good time except for standing aroung on the back side. People it's not that hard just, keep up with the people in front of you. Fix your ball marks and rake you sand traps.
